Patent number: 7147466Abstract: A novel system for discerning pressure points in mouthpieces, namely orthodontic aligners. The system includes the steps of applying a colored gel to a light transmissive or clear mouthpiece-type aligner, mounting the aligner to the upper and/or lower teeth of the patient, and observing through the mouthpiece color variations generated by variations in gel density, wherein pressure points are indicated as lighter colors due to less gel density and spaces are indicated as deeper color, due to higher density of the colored gel. In an alternative embodiment a second gel incorporating rupturable spheres incorporating a second composition is utilized in the present system such that pressure upon the gel releases the second composition, which would be formulated to combine with the first gel and result in a color change, either due to a chemical reaction, or due to a mixing of two colors to produce an identifying color.Type: GrantFiled: October 24, 2003Date of Patent: December 12, 2006Assignee: Dentsply International, Inc.Inventors: J. Patent number: 7128573Abstract: A device for verifying the shade of a patient's teeth for the fabrication of a dental restorative comprising a mold section and a section for holding a shade tab, both of which are disposed on the shaft or rod of the device. A shade tab is formed in the mold section by applying composite material in the mold and curing it. The composite material is selected by the dentist based on the shade of the patient's teeth. After the composite material is cured, the resultant shade tab is removed from the mold and placed in the holder for the shade tab. This enables a dentist to effectively match the shade of a patient's teeth in order to provide a restoration that matches the patient's teeth.Type: GrantFiled: February 15, 2005Date of Patent: October 31, 2006Assignee: Pentron Clinical Technologies, LLCInventors: Cornelis H. Patent number: 7125251Abstract: The invention relates to an adjustable impression tray (1) comprising a trough (2) in the form of an arch with a straight central portion (7) extended by two lateral branches (8,9), essentially matching the form of a dental arch and comprising several integral zones which may be deformed at the temperature of use in the form of a multi-directional extension means (12), for example an accordion-like bellows arrangement (13 to 16). The impression tray, preferably for single usage, advantageously comprises splitting zones (17, 18) which allow the production of impression trays of differing sectors, which by comprising one or several deformation zones are equally adjustable. The invention is of interest to dentists and prosthetic dentists and more generally to producers and users of dental equipment.Type: GrantFiled: April 15, 2003Date of Patent: October 24, 2006Inventor: Lydie Livolsi

Patent number: 7118373Abstract: An orthodontic bracket includes a bracket base and an arch wire slot in the bracket base. The bracket base comprises a polymer resin that is reinforced with glass or ceramic fibers and/or a particulate filler (e.g., a glass spherical particle filler). The bracket may include a ligation cover, which may be hingedly connected to the bracket base and rotatable relative to the bracket base between an open, non-ligating position and a closed, ligating position. The combination of reinforcing fibers and particulate filler provides substantially increased overall strength and durability while providing increased flexibility and toughness to the bracket.Type: GrantFiled: May 20, 2005Date of Patent: October 10, 2006Inventors: Norbert Abels, Claus H. Patent number: 7097452Abstract: A compule for storing dental composite material to be extruded from the compule using a standard dispenser in the preparation or repair of a dental restoration. The compule comprises: a cylindrical body having an orifice at one end thereof through which the dental composite material is extruded and a means at the opposite end thereof to facilitate the extrusion of said dental composite material using the dispenser. The body of the compule is composed of an electrically conductive plastic or alternatively may be composed of a thermally and electrically conductive plastic having a thermal conductivity in the range of between 1.0 w/mk and 500 w/mk and an electrical resistivity in the range 0.01–10,000 ohm-cm.Type: GrantFiled: November 13, 2004Date of Patent: August 29, 2006Inventor: Joshua Friedman

Patent number: 7066735Abstract: A mouth block formed of either cotton, plastic or rubber which is to be placed between the teeth of a mandible and the teeth of a maxilla of a jaw to prevent chewing action. The mouth block has a tapered configuration with the widest part of the taper to be located near the front teeth and the narrowest part of the taper to be located directly adjacent the back teeth. The mouth block my include an attachment that facilitates the connection to a lanyard or a rod for the purpose of removing of the block when such is desired.Type: GrantFiled: July 11, 2005Date of Patent: June 27, 2006Inventor: Andrea R. Patent number: 7063530Abstract: A self-ligating orthodontic bracket includes a bracket base, an arch wire slot in the bracket base, and a ligation cover. The bracket base and the ligation cover comprise a polymer resin reinforced glass or ceramic fibers, and further comprising a particulate filler. The cover is hingedly connected to the bracket base and rotatable relative to the bracket base between an open, non-ligating position and a closed, ligating position. The combination of reinforcing fibers and filler (e.g., spherical glass particles) provides substantially increased overall strength and durability while providing increased flexibility and toughness in the region of an optional hinge connection between the ligation cover and the bracket base.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2005Date of Patent: June 20, 2006Inventors: Norbert Abels, Claus-H. Backes
