Abstract: The present invention relates to methods, compositions, and articles manufactured from scrap treated skin and/or leather which has been finely pulverized and mixed with synthetic resin. It further includes a method for the manufacture of improved leather products made from animal skin and/or leather and/or animal gelatin including the products derived therefrom and the method of producing skin and/or leather powder by use of steam and pulverization for combining with a fluid plastic material or resin in which the powder is uniformally dispersed in the plastic resin material for molding, extruding or manufacture of sheet material or for incorporation into coatings, paint or other plastic resinous products.
Abstract: A magnetic thin film recording layer comprised primarily of a light rare earth element and a transition metal element is disclosed. Other elements are optionally included in the film. The film has an easy axis of magnetization perpendicular with respect to the surface of the film. Magneto-optic recording systems using such films are also disclosed.
Abstract: A roofing system incorporates a fire resistant asphalt composition comprising a thermoplastic elastomer modified bitumen, a filler, a brominated diphenyl ether, antimony oxide, and zinc borate. The asphalt composition is utilized with and impregnated into at least one layer of fiberglass or polyester mat. Preferably at least two layers are utilized wherein an upper layer is a fiberglass mat and a lower layer is a polyester mat, both mat layers being impregnated with the composition. In its preferred formulation, the asphalt composition comprises, in weight percent, about 30% to 90% bitumen, about 4% to 16% sytrene-butadiene-styrene copolymer, about 10% to 40% filler, and up to about 20% each of the brominated diphenyl ether, the antimony oxide, and the zinc borate. The preferred brominated diphenyl ether is decabromodiphenyl ether.

Abstract: A biaxially oriented polyester film containing 0.01 to 4 wt % of multilayered high-molecular particles having a weight-average particle size of 0.05 to 3 .mu.m which comprise core crosslinked high-molecular particles having a glass transition temperature of not lower than 100.degree. C. coated with a crosslinked polymer having a glass transition temperature of lower than 100.degree. C., the ratio Dw/Dn of the weight-average particle size (Dw) and the number-average particle size (Dn) being not more than 1.3 is disclosed. The film of the present invention has excellent running property and wear resistance and is useful as a base film for various products such as magnetic recording media, capacitors, photomechanical plates, electric insulators, heat-sensitive transfer film, packaging film, transfer marks and gold and silver threads. Thus, the present invention has a high industrial value.
Abstract: A flexible heat and gasoline resistant rubber laminate having high interlaminar adhesion consisting of a rubber layer (1) consisting a blend of (a) acrylic polymer derived from plasticized crosslinkable acrylates and an unsaturated epoxy group containing compound and (b) a vinylidene fluoride resin, laminated to a rubber layer (2) consisting essentially of crosslinked acrylic polymer derived from plasticized crosslinkable acrylates and unsaturated epoxy group consisting compounds.

Abstract: In a batch package 20 which includes a stack 6 of individual packages 16, the external film 17 as well as the multilayer film 2 of the individual film 16 include several layers which are bonded to each other. The core layer 3 is made of a polypropylene polymer, the external layers 4, 5 of one of the films are made of a polypropylene copolymer or terpolymer consisting of ethylene or olefins which have 4 to 10 C-atoms, the external layer 21, 22 of the second film are made of acrylic resin. During heat sealing and shrinkage, the external layers 4, 5, 21, 22 of one film are bonded to each other, respectively; however, they are not bonded to the external layers of the second film; i.e. even after the shrinkage and heat sealing the external film 17 is not joined to the individual package 16 and the multilayer film 2 enclosing the latter.

Abstract: A polyester film having a nodule surface is disclosed. The acrylic coating is preferably a crosslinked composition having a relatively high methyl methacrylate content and specific surfactants. The acrylic coating composition is applied as an aqueous dispersion to polyester film, preferably after corona treatment of the polyester film. The nodule surface reduces the coefficient of friction of the polyester film. The coating composition comprises from 60 to 90 mole percent methyl methacrylate; from 10 to 35 mole percent of at least one modifier selected from the group of ethyl acrylate, propyl acrylate, butyl acrylate, and mixtures of these; and from 3 to 10 mole percent of a crosslinkable monomer or a self-crosslinking monomer selected from the group of N-methylol methacrylamide, N-methylol acrylamide, acrylamide, methacrylamide, and mixtures of these; with from 2 to 15 weight percent of the nonionic surfactant and at least 0.1 percent by weight of the anionic surfactant.
Abstract: Substituted or unsubstituted tetrathio-, tetraseleno- or tetratelluronaphthalenes or -tetracenes form electrically conducting networks of crystal needles with electron acceptors, in particular with halogen-containing organic compounds, on a substrate. These needle networks can be coated electrolytically with metals and/or can be peeled off together with polymers from the substrate in the form of films which are electrically conducting on one side.

Abstract: A non-sealable, multi-layer polypropylene film which includes a base layer of polypropylene and at least one cover layer. The cover layer includes a propylene-ethylene copolymer which includes about 1.2 to 2.8% by weight of ethylene and has a distribution factor V.sub.F greater than about 10, an enthalpy of fusion .DELTA.H.sub.m greater than about 90 J/g and a melt index of about 3 to 12 g/10 min. under a load of 21.6N and about 230.degree. C. The film is particularly useful in laminating and as a support film for aqueous coating systems.
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium is disclosed, which comprises a non-magnetic support having thereon a magnetic layer comprising ferromagnetic fine particles and a binder containing a vinyl chloride polymer, wherein the crystalline size of the ferromagnetic fine particles is from 350 to 500 angstrom, the content of the vinyl chloride polymer is from 20 to 50% by weight based on the amount of the total binder, and an integrated intensity ratio .alpha. of the Cl-2P spectrum to the Fe-2P (3/2) spectrum at the surface of the magnetic layer measured by an X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy is 1.80/1>.alpha.>0.50/1.
Abstract: A strengthened article formed from a ceramic having a bore through a portion thereof and with a metal rod adhered by heat-settable adhesive to the ceramic within the bore thereof. The metal rod has a greater coefficient of thermal expansion than the ceramic thereby placing this ceramic in compression upon heat setting and cooling of the overall article.
Abstract: A magnetic recording medium is disclosed which has a magnetic layer comprising a ferromagnetic powder and a specific polyurethane resin as a binder. The polyurethane resin has a weight average molecular weight of not more than 30,000, a glass transition point of not higher than 0.degree. C. and a -SO.sub.3 M group, wherein M is a hydrogen atom or an alkali metal atom, in an amount of not less than 0.35% by weight in terms of sulfur atom. The recording medium is excellent in the dispersibility of the magnetic powder in the binder and has high running stability.

Abstract: A magnetic recording disk comprising a rigid substrate and a magnetic layer of the continuous thin film type predominantly composed of .gamma.-Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 shows high durability, especially CSS durability when the magnetic layer has specific peak area ratios in an X-ray diffraction chart thereof, the surface roughness of the substrate and medium surface is controlled to desired ranges, and a lubricating film of a perfluoro derivative of poly(n-propylene oxide) with a specific molecular weight is used. Reliable recording/reproduction can be conducted on the magnetic recording disk using a flying magnetic head.
Abstract: A magnetic recording disk comprising a rigid substrate and a magnetic layer of the continuous thin film type is durable and exhibits good electromagnetic properties and frequency response when the magnetic layer is predominantly composed of .gamma.-Fe.sub.2 O.sub.3 and has a resistivity of 0.03 to 3 .OMEGA.-cm. Reliable recording/reproduction can be conducted on the magnetic recording disk using a flying magnetic head.
