Patent number: 4576057Abstract: An improved nut-and-screw type device for converting rotary input to linear output. The device includes an involute-helicoidal screw, a nut assembly including a plurality of annular ring and groove rollers conjugate to said screw; a freely rotating ring having internal grooves conjugate to said roller; and bearing means engaging said rotating ring and the outer housing of said nut assembly thereby providing rolling line contact for transmission of the major forces.Type: GrantFiled: June 13, 1984Date of Patent: March 18, 1986Assignee: Illinois Tool Works Inc.Inventor: Oliver Saari

Patent number: 4483687Abstract: Gear box, especially for motor vehicles, with a driving and a driven shaft, which carry pulleys, between which pulleys torque is transmitted by means of a V-belt or chain. The pulleys consist of discs movable towards and away from each other, to make variation possible of the speed ratio between the shafts. The movement of the discs and the clamping force against the V-belt is controlled with the aid of hydraulic cylinder devices. The hydraulic cylinder of the driving shaft is joined to a gear which is arranged concentrically with the cylinder and which engages a gear on the input shaft of the gear box.Type: GrantFiled: December 1, 1981Date of Patent: November 20, 1984Assignee: AB VolvoInventor: Heinrich A. Patent number: 4480498Abstract: A guide control rod for a wheel suspension arrangement of motor vehicles. The guide control rod includes spaced side walls extending in a longitudinal direction with guide sockets being positioned in an area of the respective ends of the guide control rods. Each side wall is formed by a single stamped or pressed plate element. The guide sockets are formed by collar portions which define mounting openings extending through the respective side walls. The collar portions have different diameters so as to enable the collar portions of the respective plate members to be pressed onto one another, thereby connecting the two plate members to each other.Type: GrantFiled: August 26, 1983Date of Patent: November 6, 1984Assignee: Daimler-Benz AktiengesellschaftInventor: Werner Konig

Patent number: 4463620Abstract: In a traction roller transmission having toric discs mounted opposite each other on its input and output shafts motion transmitting traction rollers are engaged between the toric discs and supported by pivotal roller support structures permitting adjustment of the ratio of motion transmission between the input and output shafts. A cam structure is arranged adjacent a toric disc to provide an axial contact force depending on the torque transmitted through the transmission, the cam structure having cam areas with different leads, the cam leads adjacent the cam crests being larger than those of the cam surfaces adjacent the cam low points so as to reduce the contact forces provided by the cam structure when the cam areas with large lead are utilized during high transmission ratio pivot positions of the traction rollers.Type: GrantFiled: September 7, 1982Date of Patent: August 7, 1984Assignee: Excelermatic Inc.Inventor: Paul L. Patent number: 4448093Abstract: Stepping drive mechanism for converting a constant input rotatory movement to a linear movement of a given length accelerated first from zero, then continuing at constant velocity, and finally decelerated back to zero, in which the constant input rotatory movement introduced into the drive of the mechanism is transmitted to cylindrical driving cams having indexing grooves provided in their cylindrical circumferential surface, which are engaged by an indexing pin provided on a carrier component coupled with the drive of the mechanism. The indexing pin carrier component has the form of a circular disk mounted for rotation about its central axis, on each of whose opposite flat sides a driving cam is provided, one associated with the acceleration-deceleration phase and one with the constant-velocity linear movement phase. The cams each have an axis of rotation disposed at right angles to the central axis of the indexing pin carrier component, in whose indexing grooves an associated indexing pin engages.Type: GrantFiled: September 10, 1981Date of Patent: May 15, 1984Assignee: Expert Maschinenbau GmbHInventor: Reinfried Moller

Patent number: 4430067Abstract: V-belts and conical sheaves have long been used in variable ratio friction drive systems. In higher power applications the belts are replaced by metal chains carrying pins which lock to the sheaves. The latter systems are generally 90% efficient. The main loss is associated with the engagement and disengagement of the pins with the sheaves. Each pin slides radially along the sheave as it wedges into place. The loss is considerable because contact is along a line from which lubricant is extruded rather than over an area on which lubricant is present. To avoid this loss the present invention provides a shoe appended to the end of each pin. Coupling between shoe and pin is such that the shoe is permitted to slide relative to the pin in a direction radial to the sheave. It is prevented from sliding relative to the pin in a direction circumferential to the sheave.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 1981Date of Patent: February 7, 1984Inventor: Ranald O. Whitaker

Patent number: 4404865Abstract: A trackball device includes a housing containing a plurality of rotatable supports and a ball seated thereon with a portion of the ball projecting through an opening in the housing for manual rotation by a user. First and second ones of the supports comprise shafts respectively rotatable about orthogonally related axes, the shafts being rotatably mounted in bearings receivable in slots in the housing accommodating slight movement thereof in directions perpendicular to the plane of the ball opening. Bias springs resiliently urge the bearings, and thereby the shafts and ball toward the ball opening. The device may also include illumination means and a light-transmitting ball.Type: GrantFiled: February 10, 1982Date of Patent: September 20, 1983Assignee: Wico CorporationInventor: Snyg N. Kim
