  • Patent number: 8245643
Abstract: A delay unit (10) comprises a timing strip (14) and, optionally, a calibration strip (20) deposited on a substrate (12). The timing and calibration strips comprise energetic materials which optionally may comprise particles of nanosize materials, e.g., a fuel and an oxidizer, optionally applied as separate layers. A method of making the delay units comprises depositing onto a substrate (12) a timing strip (14) having a starting point (14d) and a discharge point (14e) and depositing onto the same or another substrate a calibration strip (20). Timing strip (14) and calibration strip (20) are of identical composition and are otherwise configured, e.g., thickness of the strips, to have identical burn rates. The calibration strip (20) is ignited and its burn rate is ascertained.

  • Patent number: 8245625
Abstract: A gas pressure mechanism that receives and supplies gas pressure to a semi or automatic shotgun during the shotgun's reloading operation. The gas pressure mechanism includes twin body members having a front cylinder in fluid communication with a rear cylinder. Each rear cylinder includes a rear gas port disposed in communication with the interior of the shotgun barrel such that gases of combustion is bled through the rear gas ports from the interior of the barrel to the interior of the rear cylinders. Similarly, each front cylinder includes a front gas port disposed in communication with the interior of the shotgun barrel at a location to effectively recoil and counter-recoil the shotgun's piston or breech bolt to its rear most position. The rear cylinders, are situated immediately in front of the shotgun's shell chamber such that the rear gas ports capture and receive the gas pressure developed immediately behind the shell load as it travels through the barrel after firing.

  • Patent number: 8230633
Abstract: A set of multiple recoil lugs for a rifle is taught, consisting of a rifle barrel with receiver end and a muzzle end. The receiver end of the barrel having a cartridge chamber therein and receiver threads with an extended chamber portion over the cartridge chamber and at least one set of forward lug attaching threads located between the receiver end and the muzzle end. A threaded receiver recoil lug jointly engages a rifle receiver on the receiver threads which forms a recoil absorbing surface with a rifle stock. One or more forward recoil lugs are mated with the forward lug attaching threads, forming additional recoil absorbing surfaces with the rifle stock. A barrel lock nut is attached to each set of forward lug attaching threads engaging each forward recoil lug, firmly locking each forward recoil lug securely in place. An alternate embodiment is used when the rifle receiver incorporates an integral recoil lug thereby eliminating the necessity of the receiver recoil lug.
