  • Patent number: 7603483
Abstract: The present application discloses methods and systems for configuring and managing class-based condensation. One aspect thereof includes an automated mechanism to receive a user request for a document, retrieve the document from a content server, and compare the document to a base file of a document class. If a delta-difference between the requested document and the base file is less than a predetermined threshold value, create a condensed document by abbreviating redundancy in the requested document relative to the base file of the associated document class, associate the document with the document class, and transmit the condensed document to the user. The documents within a document class possess similar layouts.

  • Patent number: 7577726
Abstract: In a method for updating a hardware configuration of a networked communications device, a networked communications device is provided with one or more programmable logic units. A first hardware configuration is determined which describes hardware features programmed into the programmable logic unit. When an updated hardware configuration becomes available, it can be downloaded into a centralized file holding configuration information for the main circuit board and add-in options cards of the networked device. The programmable logic unit is re-programmed with the second hardware configuration to provide an updated hardware configuration.

  • Patent number: 7516182
Abstract: Systems and methods for managing data associated with incoming electronic messages including filtering incoming electronic messages according to the sender's address. In addition, a request/response technique categorizes sender's addresses as authorized, unauthorized, or unconfirmed, which categorizations are stored in associated data structure. The filtering processes and the categorization techniques can be used in connection with any of various methods for populating the data structures that identify sender's addresses associated with authorized and unauthorized senders. In this manner, recipients can effectively cause unsolicited electronic messages to be filtered out. Moreover, the processes generally do not require the recipient to view electronic messages and make decisions regarding whether the senders are to be categorized as unauthorized; rather, the timeliness and accuracy of the senders' responses determine whether specified senders are authorized or unauthorized.

  • Patent number: 7487224
Abstract: The present invention utilizes central offices, located on the edge of a network to route requests along the edge of the network. Once an edge client receives a request for information, the edge client makes a determination as to whether the edge client can provide the information requested. If the edge client cannot provide the information requested, then the edge client determines whether a routing instruction applies which specifies a second edge client. If the routing instruction applies, then the request is routed to the second edge client.

  • Patent number: 7483989
Abstract: A protocol proxy relationship is established between a non-enabled host and a protocol-enabled router or other node in a multimedia session including a mobile communications network. A mechanism is provided that allows a non-enabled mobile terminal to communicate a protocol proxy request with a protocol-enabled node along an end-to-end path between the mobile terminal and a remote host. A mechanism is further provided to install information in the protocol enabled node so that it can function as the protocol proxy for the non-enabled mobile terminal.

  • Patent number: 7483982
Abstract: A method and system for providing flexible access resources or services related to particular software applications are described. The system includes a database of Internet sites that have been categorized so that the system determines the category of information that a user is accessing on the Internet. The system is also programmed so users are only allowed to access sites a limited number of times. The system is further programmed to limit a user's access to the Internet based on the network's current bandwidth usage. Moreover, users can requested a postponed access, wherein the resource or service they are requesting is stored to a server, and available to the user at a later time. In addition, if a user chooses to access a resource or service that is within certain predefined categories, they are presented with the option of retrieving the resource or service, but notified that their access will be logged to a file.

  • Patent number: 7475157
Abstract: A system for maximizing the efficiency of a load balancing server for an asymmetric web farm utilizes a TCP stack and data packets to send and receive client service requests. An internal buffer enables each web server in the web farm to balance their loading based on the contents of the client service request. Data switching between the address portion of the user space and the address portion of the kernel space within the load balancing server is eliminated.

  • Patent number: 7424519
Abstract: At least three storage devices are connected via a network to each other. Backup data is concurrently transferred from one of the storage devices, i.e., from a copy source storage device to other ones thereof, i.e., to copy destination storage devices. The amount of data transferred from the copy source storage device to each copy destination storage device is dynamically changed according to a state of a communication connection therebetween. At occurrence of a failure in the copy source storage device, necessary data can be concurrently read from the backup storage devices to restore the data in the copy source storage device at a high speed.

  • Patent number: 7386623
Abstract: In a content live distribution, to notify people who are wanted to see the content that the contents live distribution will be performed, without the need for the content provider to carry out any troublesome operations. In a content supply system, a provider uses a streaming server to perform live distribution and makes a reservation for the use of a time zone, etc. to a server reservation control center with a user PC. In the case where the user PC sends desired reservation information including e-mail addresses of people who are wanted to see the content, to the server reservation control center over the Internet, when the reservation is permitted, the server reservation control center sends an e-mail notifying that a content distribution will be performed to each e-mail address.

  • Patent number: 7366763
Abstract: A notification service that efficiently scales to the number and variety of notifications and users being serviced. The notification service is separated into three general functional components. A listener component receives a notification in a network format suitable for transmitting the notification over a network. The listener component translates the notification into an internal processing format used by the notification service. The notification is then forwarded to a routing component that determines a category associated with the notification, and performs a set of one or more operations on the notification based on its category. Finally, the notification service is forwarded to a delivery service for delivery of the notification to the notification sink. The listener component, the routing component, and the delivery component may each be scaled in order to adjust for current processing loads using load balancing functionality.

  • Patent number: 7353287
Abstract: Methods and apparatus, including computer programs, implementing a technique for creating and using marked foreign data blocks. In general, in one aspect, the technique includes receiving a host data file and a foreign data block. The host data file has a host data file format that is a native file format for a host application. The foreign data block is not native to the host data file format. The technique includes determining characteristics of the foreign data block and generating information describing the characteristics of the foreign data block, including information marking the beginning and end of the foreign data block and further including an identifier designed to be distinguishable from all other data in the host data file. The technique includes embedding the information and the foreign data block as a foreign data block packet in the host data file.

  • Patent number: 7206862
Abstract: A method and system are disclosed for efficiently matching incoming packets to previously forwarded outgoing packets within a network node to ensure a response received by a network node corresponds to a previously forwarded request. The network node receives an outgoing packet including state information and computes a mapping (e.g., hash) function value based upon the state information. Thereafter, the network node sets and entry within a bitmap at a position corresponding to the mapping function value. The network node also receives an incoming packet purportedly responsive to an earlier outgoing packet and includes state information of a type corresponding to the state information of an outgoing packet. The network node computes a mapping function value based upon the state information in the incoming packet. The network node then tests an entry corresponding to the mapping function value within one or more bitmaps including bits set at positions corresponding to previously forwarded outgoing packets.
