Abstract: One or more computing devices may be configured to identify information corresponding to a program change request associated with a multi-program data transmission. The information may comprise at least a link to a desired program within the multi-program data transmission. The one or more computing devices may communicate the link to the desired program to a client device over a specified time period. After the time period, the one or more computing devices may communicate the desired program to the client device using a single program data transmission. The single program data transmission may be derived from the multi-program data transmission.

Abstract: A receiver for processing a broadcast signal in a hybrid broadcasting system combining a broadcast network and a broadband network, according to one embodiment of the present invention, comprises a receiving unit for receiving a digital broadcast signal; a signal decoder for parsing FAC data or a common data unit included in the received broadcast signal and parsing network information from the FAC data or the common data; a service signaling channel processor for parsing a base data unit indicated by a base data unit identifier and parsing signaling data from the base data unit; and an audio/video processor for decoding broadcasting service using the signaling data.

Abstract: A server machine obtains media content information and event records, which include session data. The session data including consumer identifiers identifying consumers, and content provider identifiers identifying media stations. The server uses the event records and the media content information to generate tune-away events when first session data includes a first content provider identifier, but subsequent session data includes a second content provider identifier different from the first content provider identifier. The server aggregates tune-away events for a specific program across multiple different media outlets to determine a total number of tune away events for that program during a specified time period. The total number of tune-away events can be transmitted to an end user machine, which can display a graphical representation.

Abstract: A telecommunications network for a high-rise Multi-Dwelling Unit (MDU) is provided. In the telecommunications network eliminates much of the wiring and space required for voice, video and data services, electrical closets, security cameras, building automation, fire annunciation systems, hard-wired smoke detectors, hard-wired heat detectors, electrical meters through the use of an integrated Ethernet communication system. Additionally, a video program guide (VPG) is provided that allows a user to interact with multiple streams of video in real time. The VPG includes techniques for displaying multiple streams of data on a single screen for a user.

Abstract: Visual information may be delivered to streaming-capable devices in a viewing environment, such as a home environment or a commercial environment. The visual information can be adapted to user behavior and/or viewing conditions in such a way as to deliver a satisfactory user experience while conserving network resources, such as bandwidth and/or capacity. Viewing distance and/or ambient light, which may affect viewing conditions in a viewing environment, may be estimated. Bandwidth may be reduced by eliminating details that may not be perceived by the user in the estimated viewing conditions (e.g., by determining a spatial resolution (e.g. a maximum spatial resolution) perceptible under the viewing conditions and not exceeding that spatial resolution).

Abstract: A system for assisting a content consumer to select content services, the system including a processor that is configured to execute a matching algorithm. The matching algorithm comprises interviewing the content consumer for questions in a plurality of categories, determining a point system for answers obtained by the interviewing step, wherein the answers indicate entertainment interests of the content consumer; calculating a service score for each content service based on the point system, wherein the service score indicates an agreement between a content service and the entertainment interests of the content consumer; and selecting a pre-determined number of content services based on the service score.

Abstract: A method, system, computer program product, and computer readable storage medium provide the ability to control media content playback and reduce the time to commence playback of streamed media content. A client application receives a playback request to initiate playback of the media content. The client application downloads, from a server, a segment of the media content. The client application slices the segment into multiple smaller segments. The client application provides a subset of the multiple smaller segments to a video player. The subset of multiple smaller segments enable the video player to commence playback of the media content.

Abstract: Systems and methods are operable to distribute targeted assets to a plurality of media devices. An exemplary embodiment generates an asset file defined by an asset file time period, wherein target assets are selected for saving into the asset file when the intended initial presentation time of a target asset falls within the asset file time period of the asset file that is being generated. Then, the asset file is communicated to a plurality of media devices at a time in advance of the intended initial presentation times of a target asset of the asset file.

Abstract: Preferred placement of programming content is provided by a system and method to organize or sequence the display of a set of programmable content elements of an iTV application to a viewer, using business rules that describe the preferred placement conditions or criteria. Such criteria include brand, content owner, application location, current channel, current channel family, current channel category, time of day, content category, current program, current program genre, current iTV application, current content type, and/or subscriber and set-top box profile and behavior data. In one implementation, the present invention allows for managing the ‘shelf space’ within and for iTV applications.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for a media guidance application to determine that a user has switched away from a source transmitting a media asset with which the user was engaged and detect, while the user is switched away from the source, that secondary content transmitted by the source during a break of playback of the media asset relates to the media asset. In response to detecting that the secondary content relates to the media asset, the media guidance application may access a database to determine whether the secondary content specifically corresponds to the media asset, and, in response to determining that the secondary content specifically corresponds to the media asset, the media guidance application may generate for display the secondary content to the user.

Abstract: Described is a network system and method of use for distributing audiovisual data. The network comprises two or more audio sinks, each of the audio sinks having a corresponding audio format capability, a first source adapted to generate and transmit audiovisual data, wherein the audiovisual data includes an audio file formatted with a first audio format capability, and the at least one source being further adapted to transmit the audiovisual data to the two or more audio sinks through the network system using both an high definition multimedia interface (HDMI) and internet protocol (IP), and a first transmitter adapted to receive the transmitted audiovisual data from the first source. The first transmitter is further adapted to generate two or more transmission streams of audiovisual data, wherein each of the two or more audiovisual data transmission streams include audio data formatted according to the audio format capability of the audio sink to which it is being transmitted to.

Abstract: A broadcast signal transmitting apparatus is provided. The broadcast signal transmitting apparatus includes a first encoder, a second encoder and a transmitter. The first encoder generates a video stream of a frame compatible 3-Dimensional Television (3DTV) service. The second encoder generates signaling information for signaling the video stream. The transmitter transmits a broadcast signal comprising the video stream and the signaling information. The signaling information includes first information indicating whether the video stream includes a frame packing arrangement supplemental enhancement information (SEI) message, service type information indicating that a service type of the video stream is a High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) frame compatible 3DTV service, and a plurality of component descriptors indicating a type of component stream with respect to the video stream.

The example method includes creating a combination total set based on a first measurement for the first activity associated with the first characteristic and a second measurement for the first activity associated with the second characteristic. The example method includes computing a first entropy probability based on the constraint matrix and the combination total set. The example method includes estimating a first portion of the population that matches the first combination based on the first entropy probability.

Abstract: A method and system for display control, a breakaway judging apparatus and a video/audio processing apparatus are provided. The method includes following steps. A display signal source is received and a play content is obtained according to the display signal source. It is judged whether a play time corresponding to the play content is in a breakaway time according to at least one advertising fingerprint, wherein the at least one advertising fingerprint is a characteristic message corresponding to the play content, and the breakaway time is at least one time interval for playing at least one advertisement in the play content. If the play time corresponding to the play content is in the breakaway time, a prompt message is superimposed to the play content.
