  • Patent number: 9207304
Abstract: Techniques are provided to perform location verification of a radio access point (RAP) device such as femtocell. The RAP is configured to receive signals from global positioning system (GPS) satellite transmitters to produce GPS location data representing a GPS location of the RAP. The RAP is also configured to receive wireless signals at one or more specified channels and to generate radio environment data representing characteristics of received wireless signals at the specified channels in a vicinity of the RAP. A comparison is made between the GPS location data and reference GPS location data for an expected location of the RAP. When the GPS location data substantially matches the reference GPS location data, operations of the RAP are enabled and the radio environment data is stored to be used as reference radio environment data for purposes of subsequent location verification of the RAP.

  • Patent number: 9204295
Abstract: The user equipment (UE) and the Mobility Management Entity (MME) in an evolved 3GPP system generate authentication material that can be carried inside a packet switched network temporary mobile station identifier (P-TMSI) signature field of a Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS) signaling message from the UE to a UMTS/GPRS serving GPRS support node (SGSN) in a UMTS or GPRS Terrestrial Radio Access Network (UTRAN) or in a GSM/Edge Radio Access Network (GERAN), as well as from the SGSN to the MME of the evolved 3GPP system. The MME authenticates a context transfer request from the UTRAN/GERAN system based on the transferred authentication material and knowledge of how to create or to verify the authentication material. Additionally, the MME and the UE derive or verify authentication material, based on at least one user-specific key, for embedding in the P-TMSI signature field in legacy 3GPP signalling.

  • Patent number: 9134989
Abstract: A system and method for selectively updating the versions of stored datasets on a wireless device that selectively communicates to a wireless network and downloads datasets, such as software applications and information, from download servers on the wireless network. The wireless device has a resident dataset version summary file that identifies the version of each resident dataset, and upon the wireless device attempting to communicate with the download server, the wireless device compares the version of each specific resident dataset listed in the resident dataset version summary file with the version of downloadable datasets resident on the download server to thereby determine if the version of a wireless device resident dataset is different from the version of a download server resident dataset. If the download server resident dataset is more recent, the wireless device can download it to overwrite the wireless device resident dataset.

  • Patent number: 9088427
Abstract: The present invention related to a method for recording a mobile phone call and mobile phone recording system for recording audio from mobile phone calls. An external call is established with the mobile phone. A call recording application can set up a loopback. Audio of the internal call can be captured and stored at the mobile phone. The internal call can be tagged with an identification. Thereafter, the audio, and data such as SMS and MMS, can be forwarded to a third party database for storage or stored locally for the end user to play back on the phone or transfer to an external device using USB, wireless, or similar data connection.

  • Patent number: 9084104
Abstract: A method and system for implementing a prepaid service in a packet-switched mobile communication network, in which information requested by a mobile station is delivered to the mobile station so long as the subscriber has maintained a sufficient prepaid balance from which the service charges can be deducted. An access point name definition, which points to a service node via which access to or use of an associated prepaid service is provided, is defined. A control server is used to monitor the service traffic between the mobile station and the content server after the access point name definition identified in an activation request for data service has been sent from the mobile station. Traffic monitoring continues as long as the data service is active, and the prepaid service balance in a billing database is dynamically updated to reflect the subscriber's ongoing use of the data service based on the continued monitoring of the control server.

  • Patent number: 9072009
Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for carrier selection based on probable mobility of packet flow. A request is received from an access terminal. The request comprises a packet-flow-type indication, and indicates that the access terminal is requesting a packet flow. If the packet-flow-type indication is associated with a high degree of mobility, the first access terminal is instructed to conduct the packet flow on one of a first set of one or more carriers. If the packet-flow-type indication is associated with a low degree of mobility, the access terminal is instructed to conduct the packet flow on one of a second set of one or more carriers. No carriers are elements of both the first set and the second set.

  • Patent number: 9036571
Abstract: A method in a radio network node for dynamic carrier mode switching is provided. The radio network node is comprised in a radio communications system. The radio network node is configured to operate in a legacy mode and is further configured to operate in a non legacy mode. At least one carrier is operated so that it switches (602) from non legacy mode to legacy mode. When operating the carrier in the legacy mode, the radio network node signals (603) with a user equipment. The user equipment operates in legacy mode, but can not operate in non legacy mode. The radio network node then operates the at least one carrier so that it switches (604) from legacy mode back to non legacy mode.

  • Patent number: 8996066
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are provided for directing a beam towards a receiving device in the presence of interference. A beam transmitted by a transmission source is received by a received device. The beam shape is affected by signals transmitted by interfering sources. The receiving device computes channel estimates associated with the transmission source and the interfering sources. A feedback signal that represents the channel estimates associated with the transmission and interfering sources is transmitted to the transmission source. The transmission source changes characteristics of the beam to compensate for the interference caused by the interfering sources. The transmission source may change the characteristics of the beam by performing precoding algorithms.

  • Patent number: 8971876
Abstract: A method of customizing a device in accordance with the company for whom the device-user works and in accordance with the job held by the user at the company. A provisioning system receives a request to provision (e.g., activate) a device and responsively determines the company at which the device-user works and the job held by the user at the company. The provisioning system then establishes customization-data usable by the device to become customized in a manner corresponding with the company and job, and the provisioning system sends the customization-data to the device to cause the device to become customized accordingly. This process can be applied to automatically customize a device so as to adopt a base user-interface, functionality, and reference data that is all related to the company at which the device-user works and that is tailored in a manner appropriate to the user's job at the company.
