Patent number: 7313881Abstract: A pneumatic launcher has a plenum chamber section, an intermediate chamber section and a launch tube section connected together in a generally linear arrangement. The plenum chamber section defines a plenum chamber that has a closed end and an open end. The intermediate chamber section has aft and forward rupture disks consecutively arranged to define an intermediate chamber. The plenum chamber is pressurized with a pressurized gas to a design plenum pressure and the intermediate chamber is pressurized with a pressurized gas to pressure that is about one-half the design plenum pressure. The intermediate chamber is then depressurizing to produce a pressure imbalance between the plenum and intermediate chambers that causes said aft and forward rupture disks to rupture. As a result, pressure equilibrium occurs between the plenum chamber and launch tube thereby discharging the fluid and projectile from the interior of the launch tube.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2004Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Assignee: The United States of America as represented by the Secretary of the NavyInventors: Thomas J. Patent number: 7313885Abstract: An alignment device for telescopic sight mounts (101) utilizes a front alignment portion (103) and a rear alignment portion (105) installed on a firearm 405. A front bushing (109), clamped in a front mount assembly (401) of the firearm provides a precision sliding fit with a front alignment rod (107). A rear bushing (113), clamped in a rear mount assembly (403) of the firearm provides a precision sliding fit with a rear alignment rod (107). Acceptable alignment of the front and rear mount assemblies is indicated by full engagement of a male indicator portion (115) of the front alignment rod and a female indicator portion (117) of the rear alignment rod when the respective rods are slideably engaged. A bore sight engagement element (151) allows bore sighting of the mounts with the rifle bore (425).Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2005Date of Patent: January 1, 2008Inventor: James F. Looney

Patent number: 7302773Abstract: A method of firing of arms which utilizes both action and reaction forces in the process of firing. The action force propels the projectile (14) while the opposite in direction reaction force is used with an independent freely moving inert mass (20) in which a cartridge case (18) resides. Since the movement of the inert mass (20) does not affect the position of the barrel (12) prior to the projectile (14) leaving the muzzle, the barrel (12) remains steady during firing, thus achieving very high accuracy of shooting.Type: GrantFiled: November 30, 2004Date of Patent: December 4, 2007Inventors: Leonid Rozhkov, Igor Rozhkov

Patent number: 7299750Abstract: Especially in hunting, the choice of bullets has to be such that it is in keeping with the wild animals to be hunted. According to the desired effect on the target, deformation bullets or partial fragmentation bullets are used. Since both types of bullets are different, the position of the point of impact from the same weapon is different. According to the type of bullet used, the weapon must be oriented differently in relation to the target. This can be obstructive and if insufficient attention is paid, can result in misses.Type: GrantFiled: April 30, 2003Date of Patent: November 27, 2007Assignee: Ruag Ammotec GmbHInventors: Irene Schikora, Friedrich Riess, Bernd Krause

Patent number: 7284489Abstract: Disclosed is a device and method for externally perforating a well-bore casing. The perforating apparatus is attached to the outside of the casing itself and is conveyed along with the casing when it is inserted into the well bore. The perforation is accomplished using two groups of charges which are contained in protective pressure chambers which are arranged radially around the outside of the wellbore casing. The pressure chambers form longitudinally extending ribs which conveniently serve to center the casing within the well bore. One group of charges is aimed inward in order to perforate the casing. A second group is aimed outward in order to perforate the formation. In an alternative embodiment, only one group of bi-directional charges is provided.Type: GrantFiled: July 29, 2004Date of Patent: October 23, 2007Assignee: Shell Oil CompanyInventors: Matthew Robert George Bell, Eugene Murphy, Edward Paul Cernocky, Christopher Burres, Aron Ekelund, Allen Lindfors
