  • Patent number: 6450775
Abstract: A liquid jet pump for moving a wide variety of material is described. The liquid jet pump is comprised of a nozzle assembly and a target tube, and defines a suction chamber. The nozzle assembly is configured to pull in gas, causing a gas bearing effect wherein a layer of gas surrounds the liquid jet flow exiting the nozzle assembly. The liquid jet passes through the suction chamber with minimal deflection, reducing cavitation and improving mixing as educted materials enter the suction chamber and combine with the liquid jet. The combined material is directed into the target tube, which preferably is designed to detach from the other components and is composed of abrasion-resistant material. The target tube absorbs the majority of wear, and provides ease of changing parts.

  • Patent number: 6450774
Abstract: A method for applying a lateral support load to a jet pump slip joint. The method includes positioning an ovalization device around the diffuser and actuating the ovalization device to apply a predetermined load to the slip joint which creates an oval deformation of the diffuser. The force applied by the ovalization device creates a plastic strain in the diffuser wall which permits the diffuser to maintain an oval shape, and an elastic strain in the wall of the inlet mixer. The elastic deflection of the inlet mixer which is restrained from its original shape applies a lateral preload force to the diffuser at the area where the diffuser has a reduced diameter due to the oval deformation. This lateral preload force maintains a rigid contact between the inlet mixer and the diffuser collar to prevent oscillating motion and suppress FIV.

  • Patent number: 6450783
Abstract: An oil pump includes an oil supply pump and an oil recovery pump disposed on an extension line of a crankshaft of an engine. One joint member is provided at an end portion of the crankshaft, and another joint member is provided at an end portion of a pump shaft. The two joint members are coupled to each other on the same axial line within a front cover of an engine. The two joint members have alternating concave portions and convex portions. The convex portions of the two joint members include inclined faces and opposing driving transmission faces. The inclined faces of the convex portions guide the convex portions into the concave portion of the opposing joint member, so that the two joint members are meshed with one another. The crankshaft side joint member is fastened together with an ACG rotor. An oil tank connected to the oil pump is disposed above and very close to the oil pump.

  • Patent number: 6422836
Abstract: A reciprocating fluid pump includes a drive section and a pump section. The drive section has a pair of coils which may be energized to cause displacement of a reciprocating assembly. Each coil is a reluctance gap arrangement in which a magnetic circuit is interrupted by a gap towards which an armature of the reciprocating assembly is drawn when energizing current is applied to the coil. The reciprocating assembly includes an element which is extended into and retracted from a pump chamber during its reciprocating motion, causing fluid to be drawn into and expelled from the pump chamber. The pump is particularly well suited for use in cyclic pumping applications, such as internal combustion engine fuel injection. Cycle times in such applications may be reduced by appropriate control of the current waveforms applied to the coils.

  • Patent number: 6422840
Abstract: A pump having both a short stroke pumping mode and a long stroke pumping mode. The pump has two material cylinders, each with an attached hydraulic cylinder for operating a piston rod extending through both the material and hydraulic cylinders. The piston rods are driven by hydraulic fluid supplied to the hydraulic cylinders and are synchronized so that as one piston rod extends, the other piston rod retracts. The piston rods draw material into the material cylinders when retracting, and pump material out of the material cylinders when extending. To pump in a short stroke mode, a diverter valve is placed between the hydraulic pump and the hydraulic cylinders which diverts an amount of hydraulic fluid to the cylinders, causing the hydraulic pistons to only be extended about half the length of the hydraulic cylinder.
