  • Patent number: 7033141
Abstract: A linear compressor and a method for controlling the same. The linear compressor automatically short-circuits part of a coil having no power-supply voltage in order to substantially prevent an excessive stroke from being generated when the linear compressor is initially operated. The linear compressor includes a piston contained in a cylinder, for executing reciprocating linear motion to suck or discharge a refrigerant, a linear motor for providing the piston with driving power to allow the piston to execute the reciprocating motion, and a power-supply unit for providing the linear motor with a power-supply voltage, and performing an automatic short-circuit function to prevent an excessive stroke from being generated during an initial operation stage of the linear motor. Therefore, the linear compressor can reduce noise caused by the excessive stroke generated during the initial operation stage of the linear compressor, resulting in increased efficiency and convenience of the linear compressor.

  • Patent number: 7021905
Abstract: A fluid pump integrated with a motor, a fluid pump/generator device, a rotor for a fluid pump/generator device, a stator for a fluid pump/generator device and a method for pumping fluid are disclosed. Specifically, a fluid pump includes a motor rotor having a plurality of magnetic vanes that electromagnetically interact with a plurality of magnetic poles of the motor stator such that the rotor functions simultaneously as the impeller for the pump and rotor for the motor, with fluid flowing through channels on the rotor. Pump and motor are tightly integrated into one single device so that the number of parts is reduced, total size is compressed, reliability of the device is improved, and cost efficiency is increased. In addition, the use of magnetic vanes for propelling fluid improves motor efficiency. Further, the fluid flow is used to directly cool the pump/generator device, which reduces energy consumption.

  • Patent number: 7003959
Abstract: A high temperature splash plate for use in the combustor of a gas turbine engine that also is a specular optical reflector. A thin layer of a high temperature reflector is applied to the surface of the splash plate of the component that forms a boundary for hot combustion gases. The component typically includes a thermal barrier coating overlying the high temperature metallic component that permits the component to operate at elevated temperatures. The thermal barrier coating must be polished in order to provide a surface that can suitably reflect the radiation into the gas flow path. A thin layer of the high temperature reflector then is applied over the polished thermal barrier coating by a process that can adequately adhere the reflector to the polished surface without increasing the roughness of the surface. The surface reflects radiation in the direction of the turbine back into the hot gas flow path. The reflected radiation is not focused onto any other hardware component.

  • Patent number: 7001153
Abstract: A pump leak monitor for use with a peristaltic pump comprises a pump housing and a pair of electrical contacts disposed along a bottom end of the pump housing. The electrical contacts are located such that the contacts are immersed in fluid when the pump is leaking. The fluid conducts electricity across the contacts and thereby closes an electrical circuit for providing an indication that a leak has been detected. By measuring an electrical parameter in the circuit, the pump leak monitor is capable of measuring the conductivity of the fluid in the pump housing. As a result, the pump leak monitor is capable of differentiating between different types of fluid.
