  • Patent number: 4953313
Abstract: A female tag component for a two piece animal ear tag of the type comprising a male component having a stem with a head portion and a female component having an opening through which the head portion can be forced to effect coupling of the male and female components. The opening in the female component has an annular wall thereabout and the head portion of the male component, when the male and female components are coupled together, is located within the annular wall. An insert is located within the confines of the annular wall, this insert being in the form of a collar having an internal rim adjacent the end of the collar which is located about the opening. A portion of the collar, including that end of the collar which incorporates the rim, is deformable such as to enable entry of the head portion into the collar. The collar returns to the non-deformed state when the head is located therein so that the rim locates behind the head portion and retains the head portion within the collar.

  • Patent number: 4949737
Abstract: A wig having a shape retaining element for preventing turning-up, distortion and so on of a wig base. This shape retaining element (12) is made of a shape memory alloy whose transformation temperature (Af point) is higher than the surrounding temperature at a location between a surface of a user's head and the wig base during a period for which the wig (10) is worn on the head. The shape retaining element is arranged in position on the side of an inner surface or an outer surface of the wig base (11). When the shape retaining element is deformed into a corrugated configuration due to several uses, the shape retaining element is heated to a temperature equal to or higher than the transformation temperature, whereby the shape retaining element is restored to a beforehand stored shape. Thus, the wig can repeatedly be worn under new condition.

  • Patent number: 4949489
Abstract: There is disclosed an edge-lit multiple image display device. The device utilizes a plurality of internal-reflecting-light sheets which are provided in a stacked array. Images are formed on the surfaces of the sheets with a coating of a material that changes the density on the internally reflecting surface of its respective sheet. A light source is provided to illuminate the edges of the stacked array of sheets, with a light shield that can be moved to selectively direct the light to one edge at a time of the edges of the sheets in the stack. As the light shield is moved to selectively and alternatingly illuminate the edges of selected sheets in the stacked array, the images displayed on each of the edge-lit plates becomes illuminated, appearing and then disappearing as the light source is applied and then removed from the edge of its respective plate. This can be used to provide an animated display.

  • Patent number: 4942892
Abstract: A hair-curling device for use in creating Z-shaped, angular or squared curls in the hair comprises a long double-hinged flat curler which includes an elongated flat rectangular main body and a pair of end flaps integrally attached to the ends of the main body by thin, narrow folding hinges. An elongated C-shaped locking receptacle extends along a free end of one end flap, and a cylindrical solid locking member extends along a free end of the other end flap. The hair is wrapped around the main body portion of the curler and the end flaps are then folded over the same side of the main body portion and interlocked in a snap fit by finger pressure applied to the end flaps. The end flaps, including the locking member and receptable, are together slightly longer than the main body of the curler, and the main body of the curler is slightly flexible laterally, so that the locking portions of the end flaps can be snapped together when the aligned end flaps are pressed down against the main body member.

  • Patent number: 4942893
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a hair highlighting capsule which confines the hair and the coloring solution for a time sufficient to effect the desired coloration of the hair. The hair highlighting capsule is preferably transparent so that the stylist can observe the process. The capsule of the present invention is reusable and easily sealable. The hair highlighting capsule has a female side which is provided with a central cavity and a male side which is provided with a projection. The projection is contoured to be accepted by the central cavity. The depth of the cavity and mating projection are preferably about 0.125 inches. A hinge connects the female side and the male side and is positioned so that the projection and central cavity will register when the capsule is closed. The capsule is sealed by locking the projection into the central cavity. The seal limits flow of the chemical coloring solution from the capsule and excludes the flow of water and other fluids into the capsule.

  • Patent number: 4930446
Abstract: The present invention comprises a method for cyclically controlling a poultry barn environment. It coordinates stimulation such as illumination, ventilation, sprinkling and temperature. At the commencement of the cycle, the lights are turned off, the ventilation is reduced to a normal rate and heaters are turned on to provide an optimum environment for the poultry's inactive phase. During the dark, inactive phase, a massive purge is implemented to reduce ambient dust. At the end of the dark phase, the lights are turned on, sprinklers are turned on and the temperature in the barn is reduced. The lights stimulate activity by the fowl. The sprinkling removes still more dust from the air.The reduction in temperature stimulates feeding. At the end of the illuminated, active phase, the lights are turned out and the cycle is repeated. By coordinating the stimulation, a healthier fowl and greater growth rate are thereby produced.
