Abstract: Techniques are disclosed for detecting the occurrence of unusual events in a sequence of video frames Importantly, what is determined as unusual need not be defined in advance, but can be determined over time by observing a stream of primitive events and a stream of context events. A mapper component may be configured to parse the event streams and supply input data sets to multiple adaptive resonance theory (ART) networks. Each individual ART network may generate clusters from the set of inputs data supplied to that ART network. Each cluster represents an observed statistical distribution of a particular thing or event being observed that ART network.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to a video surveillance method comprising steps of a video camera periodically capturing an image of a zone to be monitored, analyzing the image to detect a presence therein, and of the video camera transmitting the image only if a presence has been detected in the image.

Abstract: A process is repeated in which N state vectors each including, as elements, the position of a camera with respect to a vehicle, the posture of the camera, the width of a lane where the vehicle is driving, and the orientation of the vehicle with respect to the lane are changed according to a predetermined dynamics model, a reference state vector representing the positions of edges of lane marks included in an image captured by the camera is generated when each of the changed state vectors is true, considering the positions of edges of lane marks in the image as an observation vector, the degree of match between the reference state vector and the observation vector is calculated as the weight of the state vector, a weighted average vector of the state vectors is calculated, and N state vectors are resampled on the basis of the calculated weights.

Abstract: A concealment (10) for equipment (13) including imaging devices, audio equipment, and sensors. The concealment comprises a frame (12) which, when assembled, forms the outline of a naturally occurring or manmade object. A covering (22) fits over the assembled frame. An outer surface (24) of the covering has a texture and finish that passes for the outer surface of the natural or manmade object the concealment represents. The frame provides a mounting for the equipment installed within the concealment, with the equipment being positioned to provide surveillance of an area (A) within which the concealment is located. The frame and covering are both made from materials which do not interfere with the transmission of signals from the equipment to a monitoring site, nor the reception of signals from the monitoring site to the equipment installed within the concealment to control operation of the equipment.

Abstract: Described are techniques for performing automated discovery processing in a network. A data storage system monitors transmissions sent over the network. The data storage system extracts one or more data elements from one or more messages included in the transmissions and determines at least one application executing on a component in the network in accordance with the one or more data elements.

Abstract: A network processor system includes a network processor 1, which is provided with a number of interfaces 9, 11, 13, 15, 19, including one or more Ethernet interfaces 9, 11 and a UART interface 19, which can be used to load a software package into the network processor 1. The software package can thus be modified when required, or when the software package previously stored in the network processor system is corrupted. The Ethernet data packets received on the Ethernet interfaces 9, 11 are in a special format, which the network processor 1 can recognize, to distinguish them from conventional Ethernet packets. Thus, the network processor 1 does not have to be programmed to handle the full range conventional Ethernet data packets. The network processor 1 is provided with a second external non-volatile data storage device 7 in the form of a EEPROM memory 7. The EEPROM memory 7 provides a writable extension of the internal ROM memory of the network processor.

Abstract: A method is disclosed for communicating using a device having a Palm OS. SMB is preferentially used to communicate with a node, and if use of SMB is not possible, FTP is used, and if use of FTP is not possible, Bluetooth is used. If FTP or Bluetooth is selected as the protocol, file sharing between the device and node that entails a read or write is executed by temporarily copying a file to an internal Palm OS memory of the device, performing the read or write on the file, and then copying the file back to the node to overwrite a previous version of the file at the node. For non-Palm OS file transfer to the internal memory, the file is wrapped in a Palm OS stream in the internal memory for executing reads or writes. For file transfer to an expansion Palm OS memory card, byte-to-byte copying of the file is executed using the FAT of the expansion memory, with the file being transferred through an internal Palm OS memory of the device.

Abstract: A dialog server which provides dialogs made by at least one user through their respective avatars in a virtual space. A method and a computer readable article of manufacture tangibly embodying computer readable instructions for executing the steps of the method are also provided. The dialog server includes: a position storage unit which stores positional information on the avatars; an utterance receiver which receives at least one utterance of avatars and utterance strength representing an importance or attention level of the utterance; an interest level calculator which calculates interest levels between avatars based on their positional information; a message processor which generates a message based on the utterance in accordance with a value calculated from the interest levels and the utterance strength; and a message transmitter which transmits the message to the avatars.

Abstract: In a client, a system receives a set of transformation functions for use in transforming a first content, requests the first content from a gateway, and receives the first content from the gateway, including an invocation of at least one transformation function maintained on the client. The system invokes the at least one transformation function to transform the first content to access a second content on the server. In a gateway communicating with a server, a system transmits a set of transformation functions to at least one client for use in transforming a first content, receives a request from at least one client for the first content residing on the server, rewrites the first content to include the invocation of at least one transformation function maintained on the client, and transmits the first content including the invocation of at the least one transformation function maintained on the client.

Abstract: A system, method, and computer program for caching a plurality of file fragments to improve file transfer performance, comprising the steps of exposing at least one file fragment of a computer file as a primary object to an application; caching said at least one file fragment at a plurality of points in a network system, wherein said at least one file fragment remains unchanged; and managing said at least one non-changing file fragment throughout said network system at a plurality of cache points and appropriate means and computer-readable instructions.

Abstract: A network enabled computer receives connection profile information in a generic form and creates one or more native mode profiles to establish connections. By accepting profile information in a generic form, profile information can be readily provided from one or more ways, including from a policy server, through a user interface or from a third party application. The profile information can be provided with an order of precedence so that profile information from different sources may be combined appropriately. Additionally, the profile information may be provided in an extensible format to allow profile information to be distributed to multiple computers, even if some have different hardware or software configurations and are not programmed to recognize extensions of the profile information.

Abstract: To provide a vehicle monitor apparatus capable of acquiring more information through effective utilization of an image taking region of a camera on the occasion of taking interior and exterior images of a vehicle with the camera. A vehicle monitor apparatus 1 is provided with a drive recorder 11 and a reflecting mirror 12. The drive recorder 11 is provided with a camera 14 and the camera 14 is arranged to take a forward image of the vehicle 2. In an image taking region of the camera 14, the reflecting mirror 12 is located in a range where a hood 23 should be imaged if the reflecting mirror 12 were excluded, and the camera 14 takes an image of an exterior situation outside the vehicle viewed through a windshield 22, and an image projected by the reflecting mirror 12.

Abstract: A method, system, and computer program product for performing network device management and client load distribution to a number of the Common Information Model Object Manager (CIMOM) servers via a network path. A client-side server selection (CSS) utility allows a client to choose the ideal server to fulfill a CIM request message. The client transmits the CIM request message to the CIMOM server based on service response time information utilized by the CSS utility. The CIM request message is forwarded to a CIM provider for processing. The provider returns a CIM response message to the CIMOM and a service response time is generated. Thereafter, the CIMOM returns the CIM response message to the client. At a preset time period, a Service Location Protocol (SLP) advertise generation facility initiates a multicast of the service response time information (from all network CIMOM servers) to the CSS utility.

Abstract: The updating of only some memory locations in a multiple computer environment in which at least one applications program (50) executes simultaneously on a plurality of computers M1, M2 . . . Mn each of which has a local memory, is disclosed. Objects A and B in each local memory are disclosed which each include primitive fields (11). However, the simultaneous operation of the application program (50) can result in a “non-primitive” reference field (10) in one machine which must then be replicated in all other machines. However, the reference field (10) references another object (H) in the one machine's local memory so corresponding objects (T, K) must be created in the local memory of each other machine and be referenced by the corresponding non-primitive field (10).

Abstract: Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and UI modifications for existing applications are used to implement efficient methods for taking content offline with full synchronization, incremental synchronization, in the case of document libraries per-folder synchronization, and the like. The APIs provide support for synchronizing changes to attachments, the ability to download a document library's complete contents or only a list of the available documents, and read-only folder hierarchy replication in the case of document libraries. These abilities coupled with corresponding user interface features enable easier browsing and searching of large document library structures, making edits to those documents offline, being able to see an up-to-date version of those documents in a preview mode, and receiving reminders when offline edits remain on the local computer and need to be updated to a server.

Abstract: Applying a filter to state information sent from a server to a subscribing client includes receiving a subscription request from the subscribing client, where the subscription request requests a subscription for the subscribing client. A subscriber value is established from the subscription request. A filter set corresponding to the subscriber value is implicitly determined. The filter set comprises one or more filters, where a filter operates to filter state information sent from a server to the subscribing client. The filter set is recorded in a subscription record of the subscription for the subscribing client.

Abstract: A topology management process is implemented which involves removing or “tearing down” connections between nodes in certain situations in order to try to replace those connections with more optimal ones. Idle connections are torn down unless those are in a “notify” state; a notify state being one in which a request for content has been made to a neighbour but that neighbour has no available content as yet. Idle connections in a notify state are torn down only if they remain idle for a longer time than that required before an idle connection is torn down. To avoid problems caused by clusters of node forming and of loners being unable to join the cloud, network churn algorithms are taught. These involve requiring nodes to drop connections when specified conditions are met. Relative content distribution between connections is monitored and this information used to influence selection of those connections to drop.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for monitoring the connection state of users. In the method, when a user accesses a network, the network loads a recognizable browser page on the user terminal and monitors the connection state of the user through message interaction with the browser page. With this method, it can be possible to reliably monitor the online state of the user, so that the authentication and accounting server can accurately charge the user who accesses the network and accepts the services of the network. The handshake mechanism can also be carried out with few or no limitations on the user terminal, thus guaranteeing monitoring of the connection state of users.

Abstract: A method and system for brokering a media file from a media provider to a media requester. A media provider, such as a camera phone, captures a media file. A media requester provides an event-definition record to a network entity so as to request a media file. The network entity requests that the media provider provide media files that meet criteria defined by the event-definition record. The media provider provides a media file and media file data associated with the media file to the network entity. The network entity compares the media file data to the event-definition record, and provides the media file to the media requester if the media file data matches the event-definition record. An enterprise operating the network entity brokers the sale of the media file, in part, by collecting a payment from a media requester user and making a payment to a media provider user.

Abstract: A system and method for providing an Internet Protocol (IP)-based service in a communication system are provided. In an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) communication system, a menu server generates a service object based on service capability information of a subscriber received from a service provider, and a terminal activates the service object received from the menu server so that the subscriber can easily use services. The user can select one of services from a service menu displayed on the terminal and immediately implement the selected service.
