Patent number: 10034955Abstract: The invention relates to the production of a pressure-sensitive adhesive composition polymerized entirely from acrylate-based monomers in a layer thickness of about 250 ?m and to the use thereof for adhesion to human skin. The adhesive films thus produced adhere reliably to human skin, have high water-vapor permeability despite the layer thickness, with the result that, for example, wound healing is promoted, and even after a relatively long wearing period can be removed from the skin again without leaving a residue and without damaging the skin.Type: GrantFiled: March 29, 2011Date of Patent: July 31, 2018Assignee: Lohmann GmbH & Co. Patent number: 10023688Abstract: The invention concerns a novel chain-terminated polymeric composition, comprising hydroxyl-terminated polyesters and a method for preparing the composition and the use of the chain-terminated polymeric composition as a plasticizer. They play a predominant role in the field of metal vacuum closures (Twist-Off and Press-On-Twist-Off closures). Selection criteria regarding the suitability of plasticizers in food contact applications are properties such as low plasticizer volatility, low plastisol viscosity, PVC compatibility, softness and resilience of the gasket as well as non-toxicity and high plasticizer migration resistance. The invention concerns the chemical equation of FIG. 1 for obtaining the suggested chain-terminated polymeric composition, wherein x, y, and z are the stoichiometric ratios of dibasic carboxylic acid (DCA), glycerol or polyglycerol (GPG), and monobasic carboxylic acid (MCA).Type: GrantFiled: February 21, 2014Date of Patent: July 17, 2018Assignee: Silgan Holdings Inc.Inventor: Juergen Kintscher

Patent number: 10018853Abstract: Methods and devices for altering the power of a lens, such as an intraocular lens, are disclosed. In one method, the lens comprises a single polymer matrix containing crosslinkable pendant groups, wherein the polymer matrix increases in volume when crosslinked. The lens does not contain free monomer. Upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation, crosslinking causes the exposed portion of the lens to increase in volume, causing an increase in the refractive index. In another method, the lens comprises a polymer matrix containing photobleachable chromophores. Upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation, photobleaching causes a decrease in refractive index in the exposed portion without any change in lens thickness. These methods avoid the need to wait for diffusion to occur to change the lens shape and avoid the need for a second exposure to radiation to lock in the changes to the lens.Type: GrantFiled: March 11, 2016Date of Patent: July 10, 2018Assignee: BATTELLE MEMORIAL INSTITUTEInventors: Steven M.
