  • Patent number: 4686121
Abstract: This invention comprises a treating apparatus and method that, in one continuous process, applies a treating solution to a wood article by utilizing a radial dipping apparatus, removes excess treating solution from the treated wood article, dries the remaining protective coating on the wood article by utilizing a radial drying apparatus, and then, if desired, paints the coated article and finally cures the paint to provide immediate assembly of the wood article into a window or door frame.

  • Patent number: 4505954
Abstract: A process for forming a corrosion resistant high-build type coating, which comprises (i) a step of priming on a substrate a coating composition comprising (a) 100 parts by weight of a mixture composed of from 99.9 to 60% by weight of a vegetable oil and/or a phthalic alkyd resin, and from 0.1 to 40% by weight of tricyclodecene and/or its derivative, and (b) from 1 to 500 parts by weight of at least one member selected from the group consisting of an oxyacid salt, and metal lead and its oxide and salt, followed by drying it to form a prime coat, and (ii) a step of applying thereon a radical-polymerizable and oxidation-polymerizable, room temperature curing type solventless coating composition, and polymerizing it to form a cured coating film.

  • Patent number: 4455226
Abstract: A method for treating a body of water forming a solar pond includes applying oil to the surface of the pond from at least one predetermined area of the surface, collecting oil from the surface, purifying the collected oil, and then recirculating the purified oil to said at least one predetermined area. Apparatus is provided for performing the method and includes wind-activated nozzles for applying the oil at an upwind peripheral location, a trough for collecting the oil at a downwind peripheral location, a filter for purifying the collected oil, color and spreadability sensors for examining the collected oil, and a quality improvement device for controlling the quality of the collected oil in accordance with the sensor output. A pump and pipe recirculate the treated oil from the trough to the nozzles.

  • Patent number: 4025667
Abstract: The half-life of enzymes which have been immobilized by chemical coupling via silane coupling agents to inorganic carriers is increased significantly by using a carrier which has been treated to increase its water-durability. Treatment of the carrier comprises the steps of first coating the carrier with a solution containing a metal, the oxide of which is more water-durable than the carrier, and then firing the coated carrier to form a continuous metal oxide layer on the carrier surface. The treated carriers are then silanized for chemical coupling wih enzymes. Methods for preparing and using enzyme composites having the improved carrier are disclosed.
