Patent number: 5511733Abstract: A banana shaped coil, including a convex (positive radius) surface and opposite concave (negative radius) surface is wound by applying winding wire against the negative radius surface. The winding apparatus is provided with an apparatus for sequentially engaging a trailing edge of the winding wire being applied so as to maintain it in tension against the negative radius surface. The device is disengaged when the winding wire becomes applied against the positive radius surface, since the contour of this surface naturally tensions the winding.Type: GrantFiled: February 23, 1994Date of Patent: April 30, 1996Assignee: Northrop Grumman CorporationInventor: Swarm S. Patent number: 5503341Abstract: In a fishline length measurement device for a fishing reel, a random access memory is provided for storing as a data map a relationship between spool rotation numbers and corresponding fishline outer circumferential surface diameters. Both are detected during initial casts or winding of the fishline so that a outer circumferential surface diameter corresponding to a spool rotation number detected by a spool rotation sensor is selected from the data map in subsequent casts or winding of the fishline. Fishline length is calculated based on the detected rotation number and the selected diameter. Thus, it is possible to reduce consumptive electric power of the battery without any deterioration to the fishline length measurement function. In another feature of the present invention temperature compensation is provided to correct for changes in ambient temperature surrounding the fishing reel.Type: GrantFiled: December 22, 1994Date of Patent: April 2, 1996Assignee: Daiwa Seiko, Inc.Inventors: Kyoichi Kaneko, Akio Yamazaki, Kazuya Nanbu

Patent number: 5425509Abstract: A spool (10) is filled with an elongated metal element (12) which is wound onto the spool with a plurality of windings. The plurality of windings end with a final winding (22) and n windings (24) preceding the final winding ("n preceding windings"), n is hereby greater than or equal to one. The final winding (22) comprises a beginning part (26), a middle part (28) and a trailing end (20). The middle part (28) is under the n preceding windings (24) in order to secure the final winding to the rest of the elongated element. The beginning part (26) and the trailing end (20) are at the same side of the n preceding windings (24).Type: GrantFiled: June 23, 1993Date of Patent: June 20, 1995Assignee: N.V. Patent number: 5421500Abstract: For guiding webs of paper or cardboard, a guide cylinder extending across half of the web grips onto the surface of the web and achieves moving corrections on the webs by rotation or swinging. The long, linear support zone of the guide cylinder causes a high mechanical stress, whereby the guide cylinder exerts almost no corrective effect in its center zone. By dividing the guide cylinder into at least two spaced-apart, parallel guide rolls having their axes disposed perpendicular to the running direction of the material web, a suitable larger effective area is obtained for correction of the direction of movement.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1992Date of Patent: June 6, 1995Assignee: Erhardt & Leimer GmbHInventors: Heinrich Niemann, Hans Wulf

Patent number: 5396757Abstract: A directly motor-driven spindle assembly in a rotary shaft having one end supported on a bearing and the other end connected to a load a, driving apparatus fixed to the rotary shaft to rotate the rotary shaft, and control apparatus for controlling the movement of the rotary shaft toward the side of the load according to the movement of the rotary shaft from a predetermined position. The control apparatus prevents the jumping motion of the rotary shaft which occurs as the load increases to enable the directly motor-driven spindle assembly to operate at a high rotating speed without the jumping motion.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1992Date of Patent: March 14, 1995Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventors: Hideaki Kobayashi, Takeshi Obata

Patent number: RE40429Abstract: A laser bore sight (10) is disclosed hollow, outer housing (11) having an internally threaded, rear portion (14), and a threaded end cap (17) is sized and shaped to be threaded to the housing rear portion (14). The end cap (17) includes a threaded, tubular stem (18) having an annular rim (18?), an electrically insulative spacer (20) and a spring (21). The bore sight (10) also includes a laser diode (24), lens (25), a series of three batteries (26), an electrically conductive spring (27), and an electrical conductor. The end cap (17) is movable between an extended position with the spacer protruding from the end of the stem (18) and a retracted position with the spacer recessed within the stem so as to allow the battery to electrically contact the end cap.Type: GrantFiled: September 14, 2005Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Inventors: Keith Oliver, Chung T.
