  • Patent number: 11649685
Abstract: A pipe shuttle for moving a pipe segment from an operating position to a pipe box. The pipe shuttle has a pair of gripper arms flanking a cradle. The cradle has a spring-loaded pad that has a concave surface for holding a pipe segment. As the pipe shuttle moves from underneath a pipe box to near a cradle, rollers are positioned to engage a guide plate. When the shuttle is underneath the pipe box, the rollers engage the guide plate to keep the cradle open. When moved towards an operating position, the rollers no longer engage the guide plate and cause grippers to close on the pipe segment. The spring-loaded pad allows the pipe shuttle to be moved relative to the pipe segment when the pipe segment is in its operating position.

  • Patent number: 11634954
Abstract: A system for controlling surge pressure and deployed into a wellbore drilled using a managed pressure drilling technique includes auto-fill float equipment allowing flow into a liner casing string, a drillpipe diverter providing a flow path between a drillpipe landing string and an annulus, and a drillpipe flow restrictor selectively blocking the flow path from the top of the drillpipe landing string while allowing fluid to be displaced up the liner casing string and into the annulus. The drillpipe flow restrictor and the drillpipe diverter are convertible to provide a flow path from the wellbore through the auto-fill float equipment to a top surface while blocking flow through the diverter into the annulus. The auto-fill float equipment is convertible to block the flow path from the wellbore into the liner casing string, while allowing fluid to flow from the liner casing string into the wellbore.

  • Patent number: 11613985
Abstract: A technique facilitates smart alarming, event detection, and/or event mitigation. The smart alarming may be achieved by, for example, automating detection processes and using advanced signal processing techniques. In some applications, event detection is enhanced by combining different alarms to facilitate diagnosis of a condition, e.g. a pump condition. The occurrence of certain unwanted events can be mitigated by automatically adjusting operation of a well system according to suitable protocols for a given event.

  • Patent number: 11591886
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a gullet mandrel for fluid flow optimization in a wellbore. The gullet mandrel may be coupled to a downhole valve, such that a tubing string in a wellbore will have a plurality of valves coupled to a plurality of mandrels. Each gullet mandrel may have a valve recess and one or more gullets (or grooves) located in an exterior portion of the mandrel body. The gullets may have a wide variety of configurations, and may be formed in a portion, a majority, or substantially all of the mandrel. The gullets may direct movement of fluid exterior to the tubing string and help force fluid into a laminar or linear flow pattern and prevent the formation of slug flows and/or lessen the problems encountered by slug flows. The disclosed gullet mandrel may be used in any fluid injection or production operation, such as gas-lift operations.

  • Patent number: 11585161
Abstract: A method for making a wet mate electrical connection in an underground borehole with a static downhole conductor pin that is protected from the borehole environment by a non-sealed shuttle and a moveable mating receptacle/conductor which presses on the outer body of the shuttle thus causing it to move along the conductor pin tube. The conductor pin inserts into the receptacle connector and connects to the contacts. Both connectors are filled with a dielectric fluid for isolation and are pressure balanced to counteract volume variation due to temperature changes. The moveable receptacle connector uses a non-conductive pin which is replaced by the conductor pin and provides a surface for wiper seals. As mating occurs, the conductor pin replaces the non-conductive pin, so no volume change occurs, and pressure change is eliminated. A reverse labyrinth isolates the heavy dielectric of the static connector from borehole fluid.

  • Patent number: 11578557
Abstract: A system and method of reverse stage cementing in which flow into a casing string from an annulus between the casing string and wellbore walls is pressure dependent; the flow is blocked after stage completion. The flow enters the casing string through a cementing sub integrally formed in the casing string. A flapper valve is in a sidewall of the cementing sub that opens when pressure in the annulus reaches a threshold value, and remains open until the annulus pressure falls below the threshold value. Flapper valve actuation is controlled by a hinge spring that is calibrated to open and close the flapper valve based on the annulus pressure. Also in the cementing sub is a sleeve that is positioned behind the flapper valve after the reverse stage cementing is completed. Sleeve actuation is timed to allow adequate time for the flapper valve to return to the closed position.

  • Patent number: 11566481
Abstract: A rotary valve can include a seat and a rotary actuator, each with a surface, the rotary actuator rotatably mounted to a housing. The surfaces can form a seal due to their engagement with an engagement force used to maintain the engagement. One biasing device can elevate pressure in a sealed volume in the valve at a constant level above an external pressure. The elevated pressure can produce a pressure differential across the rotary actuator, thereby producing at least a portion of the engagement force. Another biasing device can act between a splined hub and a mated splined shaft, thereby applying at least a portion of the engagement force through the shaft to the rotary actuator. Fluid flowing through a screen can create a pressure drop, thereby causing a pressure differential across the rotary actuator and applying at least a portion of the engagement force to the surfaces.

  • Patent number: 11555362
Abstract: A managed Pressure Drilling manifold provides accurate back pressure control of a well head when drilling. The MPD system provides two paths for the drilling fluid to flow from the RCD to the flowline. The drilling fluid flows along an MPD path sending the drilling fluids through at least one sensor, preferably three sensors, a flow control device, and a flowmeter. The MPD system also provides a bypass path that isolates the flow control device and flowmeter while direct the drilling fluid from the RCD to the bypass to avoid the flow control device and flowmeter. The MPD system provides three valves that direct the drilling fluid in the bypass path or the MPD path.

  • Patent number: 11542768
Abstract: A method to manipulate a well, comprising running an apparatus (60a) having a container (68a) with a volume of gas at a higher pressure than a surrounding portion of the well. The well is isolated, and a wireless control signal, such as an electromagnetic or acoustic signal, is sent to operate a valve assembly (62a) to selectively allow or resist fluid exit from a portion of the container (68a), via a port (61a). Some of the pressurised gas may itself be expelled in to the surrounding portion of the well, or it may be used to drive a fluid out of the container, such as an acid.
