  • Patent number: 11641441
Abstract: Thermal imaging systems can include an infrared camera module (200), a user interface (208), a processor (222), and a memory. The memory can include instructions to cause the processor (222) to perform a method upon a detected actuation from the user interface (208). The method can include performing a non-uniformity correction (1702) to reduce or eliminate fixed pattern noise from infrared image data from the infrared camera module (200). The method can include capturing infrared images (1704) at a plurality of times and register the captured images via a stabilization process (1706). The registered, non-uniformity corrected images can be used to perform a gas imaging process (1700). A processor (222) can be configured to compare an apparent background temperature in each of a plurality of regions of infrared image data to a target gas temperature. The processor (222) can determine if such regions lack sufficient contrast to reliably observe the target gas.

  • Patent number: 11641488
Abstract: Systems, methods and instrumentalities are disclosed for adaptively selecting an adaptive loop filter (ALF) procedure for a frame based on which temporal layer the frame is in. ALF procedures may vary in computational complexity. One or more frames including the current frame may be in a temporal layer of a coding scheme. The decoder may determine the current frame's temporal layer level within the coding scheme. The decoder may select an ALF procedure based on the current frame's temporal layer level. If the current frame's temporal layer level is higher within the coding scheme than some other temporal layer levels, an ALF procedure that is less computationally complex may be selected for the current frame. Then the decoder may perform the selected ALF procedure on the current frame.

  • Patent number: 11636708
Abstract: A face located along a stitch line in a spherical image is detected by rendering views of regions of the spherical image along the stitch line. The spherical image may be produced by combining first and second images. A first view of a projection of the spherical image is rendered. A scaling factor for rendering a second view of the projection is determined based characteristics of the first portion of the face. The second view is then rendered according to the scaling factor. The use of the scaling factor to render the second view causes a change in the depiction of the second portion of the face. For example, the scaling factor can indicate to change the resolution or expected size of the second portion of the face when rendering the second view. A face is then detected within the spherical image based on the rendered first and second views.

  • Patent number: 11604511
Abstract: Disclosed herein is robust detection of facial expressions that accounts for interferences on the face. In one embodiment, a system includes a head-mounted device that comprises (i) light sources configured to emit light towards a first region on a user's face, and (ii) discrete photosensors, spread over more than 2 cm, which take measurements of reflections of the light from the first region. Additionally, the system includes a head-mounted camera that captures images of a second region on the face. A computer calculates, based on the images, an extent of presence of hair over a portion of the first region. Optionally, the computer calculates extents of other interferences such as perspiration, applied makeup, and skin infection. The computer then detects facial expressions of the user based on the measurements of the reflections and the calculated extent of the hair and/or other interferences.

  • Patent number: 11600070
Abstract: A system can obtain a labelled data set, including historic video data and labelled events. The system can divide the labelled data set into historic training/testing data sets. The system can determine, using the historic training data set, a plurality of different parameter configurations to be used by a video encoder to encode a video that includes a plurality of video frames. Each parameter configuration can include a group of pictures (“GOP”) size and a scenecut threshold. The system can calculate an accuracy of event detection (“ACC”) and a filtering rate (“FR”) for each parameter configuration. The system can calculate, for each parameter configuration of the plurality of different parameter configurations, a harmonic mean between the ACC and the FR. The system can then select a best parameter configuration of the plurality of different parameter configurations based upon the parameter configuration that has the highest harmonic mean.

  • Patent number: 11582490
Abstract: In a method to improve backwards compatibility when decoding high-dynamic range images coded in a wide color gamut (WCG) space which may not be compatible with legacy color spaces, hue and/or saturation values of images in an image database are computed for both a legacy color space (say, YCbCr-gamma) and a preferred WCG color space (say, IPT-PQ). Based on a cost function, a reshaped color space is computed so that the distance between the hue values in the legacy color space and rotated hue values in the preferred color space is minimized HDR images are coded in the reshaped color space. Legacy devices can still decode standard dynamic range images assuming they are coded in the legacy color space, while updated devices can use color reshaping information to decode HDR images in the preferred color space at full dynamic range.
