  • Patent number: 7911084
Abstract: A parasitic power supply provides for drawing power for an auxiliary device from a set of sequentially driven loads. A typical source of power is a traffic signal wherein the power may be sequentially applied to red, green and yellow lamps. The design provides isolation between loads so no two loads will be powered through any single-point failure of the power supply. The device may further contain control elements such as time delays to make the system compatible with requirements of safety devices used in traffic control systems to sense burned-out bulbs, and to sense conflicts between lighting patterns that are supposed to be mutually exclusive. The device may be configured as a separate component, or it may be integrated into a traffic signal head or into any selected device intended for connecting to a traffic signal head. The invention is particularly suitable for standard systems operating nominally at 115 VAC, though other AC voltages, and direct-current supplies, can also be used.

  • Patent number: 7906870
Abstract: A system and method for detecting islanding in a Distributed Generation utility grid is described. In some examples, the system, via an inverter, injects a frequency disturbance to a location of the utility grid associated with a DG generator, measures both the frequency error due to the disturbance and the frequency drift of the location of the utility grid, and determines islanding based on a maximum value of the frequencies. In some cases, the system is able to reduce or minimize the Non-Detection Zone of the inverter by detecting islanding without always relying on a detectable frequency error due to an injected waveform.

  • Patent number: 7898118
Abstract: The invention relates to a safety switching apparatus and to a method for safely switching on and off an electrical load, in particular an automated installation. The apparatus comprises a first port for a first signaling element, a second port for a second signaling element, a first switching device coupled to a first switching activator, and a second switching device coupled to a second switching activator. A time monitoring apparatus activates the first and the second switching activators only if a time between an actuation of the signaling elements is smaller than a predetermined maximum duration. The activation of the switching activators in turn causes the switching devices to be switched-through and thus the load to be switched on. For the activation of the switching activators, a first and a second switching element, which are each arranged in series with the switching activators, need to switched-through.

  • Patent number: 7893558
Abstract: An on-vehicle power supply device is connected to a vehicle battery with revealing. The on-vehicle power supply device is used for receiving a DC input power supplied by the vehicle battery, and the on-vehicle power supply device induces a plurality of high-frequency voltages through a single isolation transformer at the same time, and then transforms the high-frequency voltages to produce at least one AC output voltage and DC output voltage. In addition, the on-vehicle power supply device further includes a rechargeable battery. The rechargeable battery can be charged when the DC input power is importing. When the DC input power stops importing, the rechargeable battery is used for supplying a backup power to the isolation transformer, and the rechargeable battery keeps producing AC output voltage and DC output voltage. Hence, the present invention can achieve the effects of multipurpose, safety, and continuity.
