  • Patent number: 8290473
Abstract: Methods and corresponding systems in a mobile device for remotely modifying data stored in the mobile device include receiving a message in the mobile device. The message can be a short message service (SMS) message. The message is compared to a secret message, wherein the secret message is a hash value output by a hash function, wherein inputs to the hash function include a text string and a secret text string. The text string can be an e-mail address, and the secret text string can be a password of the mobile device. In response to the message matching the secret message, data stored in memory in the mobile device is modified to prevent unauthorized access. A secret message cancellation can be received in the mobile device to cancel a scheduled memory modification. Memory modification can include erasing data, replacing data, or encrypting data.

Abstract: The disclosure provides a mobile phone with function to acquire targeted message and method thereof. The method includes steps: recording sub-actions of the mobile phone in response to input signals from a user in a predetermined time period in a coverage area of the base station, acquiring a defined key phrase of each sub-action and grouping all sub-actions associated with a same key phrase into a same action, counting the number of times of the action is performed in the predetermined time period in the coverage area of the base station, judging whether the number of times of the action reaches a preset value, if yes, sending a wireless signal including the key phrase of the action to the base station, and receiving a message including the key phrase within the text body of the message from the base station and displaying the message.

  • Patent number: 8249676
Abstract: Handheld mobile communication devices according to the disclosure have a closed position, in which the display member of the device covers at least a portion of the keys of on the keypad member of the device, and an open position, in which the keys are accessible and the device is operated. When the display member is in the open position, it forms an ergonomically desirable angle (e.g., on the order of about 155°) relative to the keypad member. However, unlike clamshell-type cellular phones, the display member does not simply flip open about a conventional pivot joint. Rather, it moves from the closed position, where it is parallel and adjacent to the keypad member, to the open, angled position through a sliding/sweeping motion; through an eccentric, “up-and-over” rotational motion; or through a combination sliding/“up-and-over” motion.

  • Patent number: 8244273
Abstract: A method and system for setting up a communication with a given mobile station served by a RAN that defines one or more coverage areas. The RAN may receive an indication of a location of the given mobile station. The RAN may then use the location of the given mobile station to identify one or more wireless coverage areas associated with the given mobile station. The RAN may also receive a request to set up a communication with the given mobile station. In response, the RAN may assign a channel for the communication to the given mobile station in each identified wireless coverage area without first paging the given mobile station.

  • Patent number: 8244285
Abstract: A buddy-based, cross-carrier mobile phone based text messaging server, system and method is disclosed. A table of subscribers cross referenced against buddy subscribers who have opted in to receive text messages (SMS) is maintained. Where a recipient subscriber is not yet registered as a buddy subscriber, the server sends a message asking if the recipient subscriber wants to become a buddy subscriber of the sending subscriber. If the recipient subscriber opts-in, the recipient subscriber is added to the table as a buddy subscriber, and thereafter will be forwarded all messages through the service, sent from the particular sending subscriber, until the buddy subscriber opts-out. The invention ensures a near one to one correspondence of in/out SMS for participating mobile phone networks, and avoids any one network being overloaded with spam messaging.

  • Patent number: 8233878
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for handset assisted resource utilization verification are disclosed. According to one method, first usage information is obtained from a mobile handset in response to the mobile handset being operated at a first time. Second usage information is obtained from the mobile handset in response to the mobile handset being operated at a second time. Based on the first and second usage information, an indication of network resource utilization is determined for the mobile handset between the first and second times. The first and second usage information may be obtained by polling the handset by sending query messages for the usage information to the handset or by triggering the handset to send the usage information in response to the expiration of a handset-implemented timer.

  • Patent number: 8180373
Abstract: A controlling device such as a remote control has programming for transmitting a signal response to a plurality of control environments, each environment including a signaling device. Each signaling device in receipt of the signal request sends a signal response having a unique ID which is chosen to be characteristically attenuated by the surroundings of the environment. Because the controlling device can only be in one environment at a given time, and given the attenuation characteristics of the signal response from each signaling device, only one signal response will be received by the controlling device in each environment. Location definitions associated with the received unique ID may be used by programming in the controlling device to recall saved devices states, commands sets, macros, and even to dynamically generate commands based on the location information.

  • Patent number: 8170585
Abstract: A method and system for determining an approximate range from a location measurement unit to a mobile device. An uplink signal from the mobile device is received by the location measurement unit, and an uplink frame marker is determined from the uplink signal. A downlink signal is received at the location measurement unit from a base station serving the mobile device, and a downlink slot marker is determined from the downlink signal. A round trip propagation delay is determined based upon the uplink frame marker and the downlink slot marker, and an approximate range from the location measurement unit to the mobile device is determined as a function of the round trip propagation delay.

  • Patent number: 8099097
Abstract: A wireless LAN device determines whether there is a necessity to search for a base station based on base station information as to a currently associated first base station, and selects all or a part of base station search conditions stored in advance to search for the base station when there is the necessity for searching the base station. When detecting at least one base station, the wireless LAN device determines whether there is a necessity to execute a handover based on base station information of each of the detected base station and the first base station. If the handover is necessary, the wireless LAN device determines the second base station from the base stations and associates the wireless LAN device with the second base station.

  • Patent number: 8060077
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and apparatus for function testing of a base station system in a wireless communication system, wherein the base station system comprises at least two antennas and at least two transceivers, and said antennas are intended to cover a target area. Function testing of the parts in the base station is based on measurements of performance variations caused by for example bad contact in feeders, misdirected or malfunctioning antennas, malfunctioning feeders, wear and tear of transceivers, and/or corrosion in feeder connections etc. By alternating between TRXs in the base station system for carrying BCCH messages the performance of each TRX is measured at each time period and stored for further analysis. Thereby a decrease or a fault in the base station system is easily detected.

  • Patent number: 8060146
Abstract: In a base station device (10), a reference installation direction storage unit (54) stores at least one reference installation direction serving as a reference installation direction. An acceleration sensor (52) measures an installation direction of the base station device. An inclination judgment unit (56) calculates inclination angles each defined by each reference installation direction stored in the reference installation direction storage unit (54) and the installation direction measured by the acceleration sensor (52). Moreover, the inclination judgment unit (56) judges whether each of the inclination angles exceeds a predetermined value. Then, an installation error alarm unit (58) issues a predetermined alarm when the inclination judgment unit (56) judges that some or all of the inclination angles exceed the predetermined angle.
