    Abstract: An array (32) of flow directing elements such as fan blades (20) for a turbine engine (10) is disclosed. Each blade in the array has a set of circumferentially shrouds (42, 44) whose contact edges (46, 48) abut each other during engine operation. A shroud angle .sigma. establishes the running chord angle .alpha. of the airfoil (30) portion of the array. Slight differences in the shroud angles of adjacent blades cause corresponding differences in the running chord angles so that the array is detuned and airfoil flutter is precluded.

    Abstract: A shroud panel for a turbine shroud includes forward and aft hooks which are used to support the panel radially above a plurality of turbine rotor blades. The panel forward hook has radially outer and inner lands, with the outer land being defined by a plurality of pads circumferentially spaced apart from each other by a respective recess. The panel forward hook is sized to engage the complementary forward slot of the turbine shroud substantially concentrically therein. The pads and recess restrict flow leakage around the panel forward hook for maintaining backflow margin and improving clearance control.

    Abstract: A master/slave discharge valve assembly for pressurized fluid containment systems includes a primary valve chamber, for connection to a fluid pressure source, formed by an eccentrically disposed first longitudinal bore and a secondary valve chamber defined by a second bore generally parallel to that of the primary chamber, communicating at one end with the primary valve chamber and a the other end with a discharge port. A displaceable primary valve member is positioned within the primary valve chamber. A slave valve member and an actuating piston are to open the slave valve member and permit a holding portion of pressurized fluid to vent to the atmosphere, thereby permitting the pressurized fluid to open the first valve member and allow pressurized fluid out the discharge port. A master/slave valve assembly according to the invention is of lower cost to manufacture as well as simpler and sturdier in construction than known valves for carbon dioxide fire suppression systems.

    Abstract: A pump body 10 of a drainage pump 1A comprises a pump chamber 12, inlet 15, and outlet 17. A rotary vane 300 mounted in the pump body 10 is coupled to a motor mounted above the pump body 10, and comprises a shaft 310 and four large-radial blades 320. Formed below the large-radial blades 320 are small-radial blades 350 to make a liquid at the inlet rise. Lower edges of the large-radial blades 320 are connected together by a disk 350 having an opening at the center and interceptively dividing the surface of the liquid rising from the inlet. Thus the amount of the liquid in contact with the large-radial blades 320 above the disk 350 decreases, and the load to the rotary vane decreases. At the same time, bubbles, noise and vibrations caused by bubbles also decrease. By surrounding the outer circumference of the large-radial blades 320 with a ring member, return water W5 moving back from the outlet 17 when the pump stops is damped by the wall member 360 and returns smoothly to the inlet 15.

This condensate drain is configured so as to allow the condensate from the exhaust to be continuously drained from the housing while the impeller is or is not operating. Preferably, the impeller housing includes a housing shell having an aperture in fluid communication with the housing interior. A top portion of the aperture extends above an interior surface of the housing shell to minimize the venturi effect of air flowing by the aperture responsive to rotation of the impeller. The interior surface of the housing further includes a dished region proximate the aperture, where the bottom of the dished region is arranged to correspond with a bottom edge of the aperture.

    Abstract: A pressure compensation system for a rotary pump prevents axial displacement of the pump shaft. The pump includes a shaft rotatable about a major axis extending centrally of the shaft, at least one impeller attached to the shaft, and a pump housing for enclosing the shaft and at least one pump impeller for generating fluid pressure for pumping upon rotation of the shaft and the at least one impeller. In these pumps, the fluid pressure can exert an axial thrust along the major axis of the shaft. Therefore, such pumps include means for thrust compensation during rotation of the shaft. The improvement in the means for thrust compensation includes a first set of permanent magnets arrayed around and attached to the shaft and a second set of permanent magnets arrayed on the pump housing. The second set of permanent magnets magnetically attracts the first set of permanent magnets to hold the shaft and the at least one impeller at a fixed position along the major axis of the shaft with respect to the pump housing.

    Abstract: A disk-shaped impeller having on its periphery a multiple radial vanes and a multiple radial impeller grooves is rotatably disposed in a pump housing. On each end surfaces of the impeller there are formed a plurality of C-shaped grooves. As the impeller is rotated at a higher speed, the fluid in the C-shaped grooves in the impeller acquires a velocity component in an impeller's axial direction to generate a force sufficient to push a pump cover and a pump casing in the axial direction. Accordingly, since it is avoided for the impeller to adhere either the pump cover or the pump casing, the space between the impeller and the housing inner wall is reduced while the possible leakage of the fluid is reduced.
