Both symmetrical and asymmetrical constructions are disclosed. The films can be used in direct-lit backlights and in lighting systems other than direct-lit backlights, such as edge-lit backlights, and non-backlight lighting systems such as systems intended for general illumination without the need for any graphic component, such as luminaires and task lights.

The system includes a thermal dissipator positioned within the second area. The system further includes a heat transfer device with a first end mounted to the board surface, and a second end mounted to the thermal dissipator, to transfer the heat energy from the board surface in the first area to the thermal dissipator in the second area, and dissipate the heat energy within the second area.

    Abstract: A ceramic burner, a ceramic metal halide lamp, and a method of sealing the ceramic burner is provided. The ceramic burner comprises a discharge vessel enclosing a discharge space that is provided with an ionizable filling comprising one or more halides. The discharge vessel comprises a ceramic wall arranged between a first and a second end portion. The first and the second end portion are arranged such that current supply conductors are passed through the end portions to respective electrodes arranged in the discharge space for maintaining a discharge. The ceramic wall of the discharge vessel comprises a tube for introducing the ionizable filling into the discharge vessel during manufacture of the ceramic burner. The tube projects from the ceramic wall and is provided with a gastight seal. The effect of using the tube is that it enables the gastight seal to be arranged away from the ceramic wall of the discharge vessel at a projecting end of the tube.

    Abstract: The electron emission portion of a cathode for an electron gun has layers of substrate material formed from a ceramic powder such as Aluminum nitride. The substrate layers have conductive traces formed on them, the conductive traces made from sintered tungsten or alternatively a refractory foil. When current is passed through the conductive traces, heat is coupled to a cathode which is thermally coupled to the heater assembly. In another embodiment of the invention, one of the layers of the heater includes a thermionic emission material and optionally a work function lowering material such as BaO, which allows the outer layer of the multi-layer heater to directly emit electrons. In another embodiment of the invention, a control grid is formed on a layer above the thermionic cathode layer, which provides for a complete electron gun assembly having a heater, cathode with a reduced work function material, and control grid to be fabricated as a single unit at the same time.
