  • Patent number: 6896755
Abstract: Processes for producing a holographic material wherein the holographic image is formed on a polished, substantially smooth surface of a printing element and then transferred the holographic image to a substrate. A coating is applied to the smooth surface of the printing element to provide a coated surface, the coated surface is embossed or engraved to provide the holographic image, and the holographic image is then transferred to a substrate via a bonding material, thereby producing the holographic material. The holographic material may be used to provide a decorative cover for an object or item, such as a floral grouping or a potted plant.

  • Patent number: 6706133
Abstract: A method for end-to end joining of paper rolls into a continuous core master is provided. The primary goal of the method is to produce usable paper roll cores from those returned for recycling after use. According to the aforementioned method, the ends of core sections are reworked into complementary shapes required for mating a joint, glue is applied to the complementary mating surfaces of the joint, the ends of the core sections are pushed in an axial direction abutting each other and the glue is set. The cross section of the cores is trued circular at least over the area of the joined core sections by applying a radial, compressive trueing force on the joint. The trueing force is also used for braking axial travel of the core sections during the joining of the core sections. An apparatus for implementing the method is also provided.

  • Patent number: 6692603
Abstract: Methods are disclosed for producing absorbent articles comprising molded airlaid webs and other molded fibrous webs. The molded webs can offer improved body fit and/or improved fluid handling. Molded airlaid webs, for example, can be formed having a central longitudinal hump and flexure zones longitudinally removed from the central hump to provide good contact with the body and improved fit when the article is squeezed from the sides. Molding can be achieved when a binder material is activated by an energy source and the web is held against a molding substrate. Energy sources can include microwaves, heated air, heated metal surfaces, ultraviolet radiation, ultrasonic energy, and the like.

  • Patent number: 6692610
Abstract: An improved method of fabricating a device such as OLED is disclosed. The method includes applying an adhesive on a cap or substrate. The adhesive is partially cured to initiate the cross-linking process while remaining in the liquid phase. The cap is then mounted onto the substrate and the adhesive is cured to encapsulate the device. By partially curing the adhesive prior to mounting the cap, the curing of the adhesive can be achieved without prolonged exposure to UV radiation or high temperatures which can adversely impact the device.

  • Patent number: 6692602
Abstract: A machine for producing corrugated cardboard incorporates a corrugating roll and a glue roll extending parallel to the former in such a way that a glue gap is formed between the two. To adjust the glue gap, the bearing of the glue roll is pushed against the bearing of the corrugating roll with a contact-pressure force A. By means of an adjusting unit the distance of the two bearings is reduced until the force of the bearing contact pressure, which is measured by a force measuring unit, decreases due to a contact occuring between the glue roll and the corrugating roll. The glue roll may have stop rings at its ends to prevent a direct contact between the glue roll and the corrugating roll.

  • Patent number: 6689246
Abstract: A box-structure airfoil is constructed of a composite material uppers skin, a composite material lower a skin 12 and a spar. Ribs and an elongate projection are formed integrally on the inner surface of each of the two skins. The upper and lower skins and the spar are simultaneously bonded by an adhesive to form a single structure. Since the ribs and the elongate projection are one-piece formed with each skin, it is possible to reduce the number of principal constituent components. Furthermore, since assembly operation is made by using the adhesive, there is no need for fasteners or the like for assembling. Moreover, the flanges on both sides of the spar can also be bonded to the respective skins. According to the invention, it is possible to reduce the number of principal constituent components and that of assembling components of an airfoil, thereby achieving its cost reduction.

  • Patent number: 6685786
Abstract: An apparatus and method are provided to improve a cutting reliability, to facilitate automation of the connection of wires and to allow for a reliable detection of wire joints. Ends of wires (a, a′) to be connected along their longitudinal directions are linearly placed, and a tape (t) is wound over and around the both wire ends. An adhesive layer of the tape is faced up, and the tape (t) is wound as the wire ends are rolled, thereby connecting the wires (a, a′). Since the tape displays a strong tear resistance in its longitudinal direction, the wires are strongly connected. The tape may contain reinforced fibers to display a stronger tear resistance. The wires (a, a′) are rolled by being held between plates (11, 33) and moving the plate (33) with respect to the plate (11). The tape (t) is placed on an auxiliary base plate (12) and is wound by the rolling movement of the wires (a, a′). The plate (33) is moved back after winding of the tape (t) to untwist the wires (a, a′).
