  • Patent number: 5611887
Abstract: To provide a corrugating roll for a single facer which avoids generation of press marks or fracture of paper without a loss of paper by suppressing a contact pressure between a corrugating medium and a liner paper, and which may manufacture the corrugated paper in a low cost with easiness of machining work, in a corrugating roll for a single facer, in which a pair of corrugating rolls engage with each other through a tooth form in parallel to roll axes on circumferential surface portions of the rolls, a profile of a tooth tip portion is composed, in combination, of a plurality of arcs that are symmetrical with respect to a tooth apex portion. The profile of the tooth tip portion includes the tooth apex portion and is constituted in combination by a first arc having substantially the same radius of curvature as that of an outer circle of the corrugating roll.

  • Patent number: 5593529
Abstract: A cylindrical filter is formed from a sheet of filter material which includes two connected layers of filter media. Opposed edges of the sheet are joined to form the cylinder by separating the media adjacent the edges and then sealing together the first of the separated layers followed by sealing the second of the separated layers. The two seals are spaced inwardly of the edges and are spaced from one another. In this way, failure of one seal does not result in failure of the cylindrical filter.

  • Patent number: 5578158
Abstract: A system and method for reducing the occurrence of undesirable deformations (e.g., wrinkling) in a reinforced thermoformable workpiece. The reduction in undesirable deformations is achieved by increasing the buckling resistance of the workpiece by employing a supplemental reinforcing structure. The reinforcement, in combination with a pair of shaping diaphragms, increase the effective buckling resistance applied to the workpiece during the fabrication of a composite product. The method includes forming a workpiece from a plurality of layers of a thermoformable material, and applying to at least one side of the material an external reinforcing structure to form a reinforced workpiece having a top side and a bottom side. At least one of the top or bottom sides of the reinforced workpiece is placed in contact vith a diaphragm, thus forming a shaping assembly.

  • Patent number: 5571369
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a honeycomb structure in which a plurality of thermoplastic layers are fused together at selected locations. The thermoplastic layers at each of the selected locations are melted together to form a welded portion which includes first and second exterior surfaces. • Patent number: 5549773
Abstract: Preimpregnated thermoplastic yarn is interwoven around spaced hex mandrels as weft members in a preformed ribbon, which may be folded into layers or cut into sheets for stacking in a honeycomb pattern in preparation for bonding. In block bonding, pressure and heat are applied to an entire fully stacked block to bond the interface facets together and form hex ducts around the mandrels, which must then be extracted, typically individually in a special pneumatic press process. In a preferred layer bonding process certain problems and limitations of block bonding are overcome by bonding each sheet as it is added to a stack buildup. An alternate layer bonding process is disclosed, which is facilitated by magnetic pressing, using electromagnets acting on ferrous mandrels to apply pressure evenly distributed along interfacial facets during thermal fusion bonding. The magnetically pressed layer bonding process is readily automated by disclosed apparatus. Heating and cooling are provided to the mandrels.
