  • Patent number: 11849975
Abstract: Methods for anterior fusion and posterior fusion spinal procedures are disclosed. The spinal procedure may be a minimally invasive procedure. An incision may be made on a back of a patient to provide percutaneous lateral access to a spine of the patient. The access point of Kambin's triangle may be used to reach an intervertebral disc space. Through the incision and with an anterior trajectory, an interbody cage may be inserted into the intervertebral disc space. Thereafter, through the same incision and with a posterior trajectory, a spinal fusion implant may be inserted into an interspinous process space or an interlaminar space. The procedure may be performed through a single incision. The same surgical instrumentation may be used for both the anterior fusion and the posterior fusion procedures.

  • Patent number: 11849974
Abstract: A tensegrity external fixation system utilizes a tensegrity external fixator having a compression portion and a tension portion that create a force to distract bone. A tensegrity external fixator has a compressor assembly with an extension that is compresses by a tension element, such as a tension band. In an embodiment, the tension band is coupled with a bone via a stud that is attached to the bone. The tension band may extend through a stud retainer, such as a loop coupled with the stud. A single extension may be used and compressed to cause the extension to bow between a tension band or wires. In an exemplary embodiment, a compressor assembly has a compression element that is compressed by the one or more extensions. Two extensions may extend from a compressor coupling having a compression element and manipulation of the extensions may place the compression element in compression.

  • Patent number: 11819246
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to software used in planning the correction of bone deformities preoperatively or postoperatively, and in particular relates to virtually manipulating rings and struts of an external fixation frame in order to plan the steps for making a desired correction to two or more bone portions of a patient. The software can be used prior to surgery, allowing a user to virtually define a bone deformity, and virtually add and manipulate fixation rings and struts to the bone deformity. Based on the virtual manipulations, a correction plan can be generated that describes length adjustments that should be made to the plurality of model struts over a period of time to correct the bone deformity. The software can also be used after surgical fixation of the fixation frame and struts to the deformed bone.

  • Patent number: 11793554
Abstract: Connectors are disclosed herein that can be used to attach a rod to a bone anchor assembly that is already occupied by a separate rod. Various ways of attaching the connector to the bone anchor assembly are disclosed, including arrangements in which the connector is locked to the bone anchor, arrangements in which the connector is constrained in one or more degrees of freedom relative to the bone anchor, arrangements in which the connector is adjustable in one or more degrees of freedom relative to the bone anchor, and arrangements that include a spherical articulation joint. In some embodiments, attachment of the connector to a bone anchor can be aided with the use of a positioner. The geometry of the connector can be selected to minimize the offset between a first rod received in the bone anchor assembly and a second rod received in the connector, for example using an angled or curved rod recess and/or a fastener, or set screw, that is offset from the center of the rod or angled relative to the bone anchor.
