  • Patent number: 7249162
Abstract: The invention relates to a system for filtering messages—the system includes a seed filter having associated therewith a false positive rate and a false negative rate. A new filter is also provided for filtering the messages, the new filter is evaluated according to the false positive rate and the false negative rate of the seed filter, the data used to determine the false positive rate and the false negative rate of the seed filter are utilized to determine a new false positive rate and a new false negative rate of the new filter as a function of threshold. The new filter is employed in lieu of the seed filter if a threshold exists for the new filter such that the new false positive rate and new false negative rate are together considered better than the false positive and the false negative rate of the seed filter.

  • Patent number: 7228345
Abstract: A server includes a processor, a memory, and a plurality of interfaces for outputting server status information. A LAN switch includes a first port configured to be coupled to a first LAN, a second port configured to be coupled to a second LAN, and a plurality of interface connection ports. Each interface connection port is configured to be coupled to one of the plurality of interfaces. The LAN switch is configured to selectively connect ports of the switch based on received boot progress information indicating a boot state of the server.

  • Patent number: 7219154
Abstract: A method is presented in which federated domains interact within a federated environment. Domains within a federation can initiate federated single-sign-on operations for a user at other federated domains. A point-of-contact server within a domain relies upon a trust proxy within the domain to manage trust relationships between the domain and the federation. Trust proxies interpret assertions from other federated domains as necessary. Trust proxies may have a trust relationship with one or more trust brokers, and a trust proxy may rely upon a trust broker for assistance in interpreting assertions. When a user requests to logoff from a domain that has initiated federated single-sign-on operations for the user at other federated domains, the domain initiates a consolidated logoff operation by requesting logoff operations at those other federated domains, which may also initiate logoff operations in a cascaded fashion to the domains at which they have initiated federated single-sign-on operations.

  • Patent number: 7194553
Abstract: An apparatus and method is provided for resolving virtual network names using one or more name routers. A conventional Uniform Resource Locator (URL) naming scheme is extended by allowing any component to be mapped to an address. The resolution process occurs recursively through a plurality of name routers. Resolution can be contextual, such that the same virtual network name may be resolved differently depending on the identity of the client or other parameters.

  • Patent number: 7191237
Abstract: A system and service for delivery of files to a plurality of users over a communications network comprises one or more server computers operable for receiving a plurality of electronic documents or files and storing those document/files; a plurality of receiving devices capable of receiving the documents/files; and a plurality of printer devices for printing the documents/files. Each receiving device registers itself with a server computer, and for each individual user, a printer device is specified for printing documents/files intended for that user. The server computer distributes the documents for a particular user to the corresponding receiving device specified by that user for receiving those documents/files, and the documents/files are printed on the specified printer device.

  • Patent number: 7185046
Abstract: Method and system for submitting computing jobs in a distributed computing environment including receiving a job request with an instruction to execute a computing job, selecting a job handler for handling the computing job based on selection information and submitting the computing job to the selected job handler. The invention can be embodied in a client unit, thus providing a decentralized distribution of computing jobs and avoiding bottlenecks in the distribution of computing jobs for example in a computing grid.

  • Patent number: 7159027
Abstract: A method and device are disclosed for optimizing use of a plurality of different approaches to communicating data. The device includes a plurality of different components, each component capable of being utilized by the device in communicating data with other devices in the network. Each component generates, when an opportunity for communicating data occurs, a decision relating to the communication using a distinct rule set. A decision handler, coupled to the components, generates a final decision relating to the communication of data based upon each decision generated by the components and upon the correctness of prior decisions generated by the components. The correctness of the final decision is used subsequently in generating additional final decisions.

  • Patent number: 7152102
Abstract: This invention is directed to a computer-implemented system and method for regulating the flow of users into an on-line wizard, thereby improving the experience of users entering the wizard. The flow is regulated by an on-line wizard manager that measures the load experienced by one or more servers associated with the on-line wizard. When new user requests to access the on-line wizard are received by the wizard manager, the manager determines whether access to the on-line wizard should be granted immediately or delayed for a period of time based upon the measured load on the servers. If a delay is warranted, the user is presented with information about the delay. After the delay period, the user is granted access to the on-line wizard.
