  • Patent number: 9973849
Abstract: A device that includes a first beam selection component that selects a portion of the multiple beams prior to performing adaptive noise cancellation, in addition to a second beam selection component that selects a beam after adaptive noise cancellation is performed. The device only performs adaptive noise cancellation on the portion of the multiple beams that are selected, reducing a complexity of performing adaptive noise cancellation. In addition, as the first beam selection component selects from the multiple beams before adaptive noise cancellation, the quality of the signals are not reduced and/or desired signals are not suppressed, resulting in the first beam selection component increasing a likelihood that the second beam selection component selects the desired beam. The first beam selection component may use a different algorithm and/or selection criteria than the second beam selection component in order to select beams associated with desired signals such as speech.

  • Patent number: 9961301
Abstract: In a system and method for video communications, a user in an observation zone views a display image rendered on a vertically oriented screen through a two-way mirror in front of the screen. The two-way mirror is vertically angled at substantially 45 degrees, and reflects a part of a side wall in the observation zone. The backdrop for the light-emitting portion of the display image is provided by the reflection that is superimposed by the two-way mirror onto the non-light-emitting portion of the display image. The backdrop provides the light-emitting portion of the display image with a depth relationship that is observable when the user views the display image along a line of vision that extends straight through the two-way mirror to the screen behind the two-way mirror. A camera embedded in the side wall captures video of the user that is reflected by the two-way mirror from the observation zone back into the camera.

  • Patent number: 9947338
Abstract: A device that determines an echo latency estimate by combining reference signals. The device may determine the echo latency corresponding to an amount of time between reference signals being sent to transmitters and input data corresponding to the reference signals being received. The device may generate a combined reference signal by adding (or filtering) each of the reference signals. The device may then compare the combined reference signal to input audio data received from a microphone or receiving device. The device may detect a highest peak, determine if there are any earlier significant peaks and estimate the echo latency based on the earliest significant peak. This technique is not limited to audio data and may be used for signal matching using any system that includes multiple transmitters and receivers (e.g., Radar, Sonar, etc.).

  • Patent number: 9940969
Abstract: Audio and or video data is structurally and persistently associated with auxiliary sensor data (e.g., relating to acceleration, orientation or tilt) through use of a unitary data object, such as a modified MPEG file or data stream. In this form, different rendering devices can employ co-conveyed sensor data to alter the audio or video content. Such use of the sensor data may be personalized to different users, e.g., through preference data. For example, accelerometer data can be associated with video data, allowing some users to view a shake-stabilized version of a video, and other users to view the video with such motion artifacts undisturbed. In like fashion, camera parameters, such as focal plane distance, can be co-conveyed with audio/video content—allowing the volume to be diminished (or not, again depending on user preference) when a camera captures audio/video from a distant subject. Some arrangements employ multiple image sensors and/or multiple audio sensors—each also collecting auxiliary data.

  • Patent number: 9924268
Abstract: A signal processing system and a method thereof are disclosed, using a differential amplifier to extract the sensed signals associated with the headphones wear status generated by the diaphragm of the headphone and push back to the sense ADC for digitization. Because the differential amplifier is non-ideal, certain residual music signal will exist. To exclude residual music signal for subsequent processing, a temporary memory is provided to match and synchronize the original playback signal retainment and the round-trip delay of external signal. The round-trip delay is computed to adjust the depth and clock speed of the buffer/FIFO of the temporary memory to, after synchronized with the total external propagation delay, eliminate residual music signal in a function block in order to separate the sense signal of the headphone driver unit diaphragm displacement and use the extracted sense signal for subsequent analysis and auto-control and/or signal compensation reference source.
