  • Patent number: 9356458
Abstract: A switch-controlled energy cycling apparatus having two or more energy storage units; a control board that controls the status of each of the energy storage units and selectively cycles each between an inactive state, an active-discharging state, providing energy to a load outside of the apparatus, and an active-recharging state; and at least one sensor configured to monitor the apparatus and, at a first time period, sets the first energy storage unit to the active-discharging state and the second energy storage unit to the active-recharging state, where energy is also delivered to and recharges the second energy storage unit. At a second time period, the board automatically and in response to receiving a signal sent from the sensor indicating that one of the sensed values has reached a preprogrammed set point, cycles the charging state of the first and second energy storage units to different charging states according to a looping pattern.

  • Patent number: 9316693
Abstract: A method and system are provided for estimating state of charge of a cell having a positive electrode, for example of a lithium phosphate type, the charge profile of which includes a range of state of charge between about 30 and about 90% in which variation of voltage is 10 times less rapid than for a state of charge higher than 90%. Determination of state of charge for a state of charge greater than 90% is based on either the use of a calibration relationship between cell voltage and state of charge when a current is passing through the cell that is less than a predetermined threshold value and its voltage has stabilized, or on the use of coulometry the result of which is corrected taking into account the accuracy of the current sensor.

  • Patent number: 9312703
Abstract: According to the charge control method of the present invention, as an electric storage means, a group of capacitors is used that include 2n (where n is an integer of 2 or more) electric double layer capacitors, from first to 2n-th electric double layer capacitors, having an equal electrostatic capacity, and that is configured such that adjacent electric double layer capacitors are connected either in series or in parallel by a switch and the 2n-th electric double layer capacitor and the first electric double layer capacitor are connected in parallel by a switch. Among the 2n capacitors Ci constituting the electric storage unit 21, adjacent capacitors are sequentially switched from a series connection to a parallel connection, or the 2n-th capacitor C2n and the first capacitor C1 are switched to a parallel connection state, whereby variations in the inter-terminal voltages of the capacitors are suppressed.

  • Patent number: 9287721
Abstract: The charger includes: a connector to be connected to a battery; an identification unit configured to perform an identification process of judging whether the battery being connected to the connector is a compliant battery allowed to be directly connected to the connector or a non-compliant battery allowed to be indirectly connected to the connector, and output a result of the identification process; a main charging unit configured to charge the compliant battery according to a main charging condition appropriate to the compliant battery; an auxiliary charging unit configured to charge the non-compliant battery according to an auxiliary charging condition which does not cause a harmful effect on the non-compliant battery; and a control unit configured to receive the result from the identification unit, and, when the result indicates the compliant battery, activate the main charging unit, and, when the result indicates the non-compliant battery, activate the auxiliary charging unit.

  • Patent number: 9254758
Abstract: A control apparatus for a vehicle having an idle stop function includes a measurement unit that measures the characteristic of a battery provided in the vehicle, an identification unit that identifies the type of the battery based on the measured characteristic, and a control unit that stops the idle stop function in a case where the identified type of the battery indicates that the battery is not for an idle-stop vehicle, and permits execution of the idle stop function in a case where the execution of the idle stop function is permitted by an input of a predetermined signal from an external terminal even when the identified type of the battery indicates that the battery is not for the idle-stop vehicle.

  • Patent number: 9238414
Abstract: A rack system is provided that includes a plurality of trays configured to hold a respective plurality of battery-powered UAVs, and a frame configured to support the plurality of trays in a vertical arrangement. Each tray of the plurality of trays includes a platform, bumper and first plurality of electrical contacts. The platform may be configured to carry a UAV of the plurality of battery-powered UAVs. The bumper may be sized and positioned on the platform to guide the UAV to a resting position on the platform. And the first plurality of electrical contacts may be connected to a battery-charging apparatus, and configured to physically and electrically contact a respective second plurality of electrical contacts connected to a respective plurality of batteries on the UAV at the resting position on the platform. A related battery-charging apparatus including a charge switching system for charging battery-powered UAVs is also provided.
