  • Patent number: 10135736
Abstract: A method, apparatus, and system are directed toward managing network traffic over a plurality of Open Systems Interconnection (OSI) Level 2 switch ports. A network traffic is received over the plurality of OSI Level 2 switch ports. At least a part of the network traffic is categorized into a flow. The categorization may be based on a IP address, an OSI Level 4 port, a protocol type, a Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) number, or the like, associated with the network traffic. One of the plurality of OSI Level 2 switch ports is selected based on a load-balancing metric. The load-balancing metric may be a priority of the flow, a congestion characteristic, a prediction of a load usage for the flow, a combination thereof, or the like. A frame associated with the flow is sent over the selected one of the plurality of OSI Level 2 switch ports.

  • Patent number: 10129050
Abstract: A network comprises ingress nodes, egress nodes, primary switches, and secondary switches where any pair of an ingress node and an egress node connects to orthogonal sets of primary switches and each secondary switch connects a respective set of primary switches to an orthogonal set of primary switches. Thus, each ingress node has a primary path and numerous compound paths to each egress node. The primary path traverses a respective primary switch, and each compound path traverses a first primary switch, a secondary switch, and a second primary switch. The disclosed connectivity pattern enables network scalability to accommodate hundreds of thousands of ingress-egress node pairs while permitting a significant proportion of incoming data to be routed through the primary switches avoiding the secondary switches.

  • Patent number: 10123339
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and system for managing carriers on which a wireless communication system serves a UE over an established radio-link-layer connection. As disclosed, a base station serves the UE with carrier aggregation service using (i) a first carrier as a primary carrier for the UE and (ii) a second carrier as a secondary carrier for the UE. While serving the UE, the system determines that the base station should serve the UE with the carrier aggregation service using (i) the first carrier as the secondary carrier and (ii) the second carrier as the primary carrier. In response to the determination and while maintaining the established radio-link-layer connection with the UE, the system causes the base station to serve the UE with the carrier aggregation service using (i) the first carrier as the secondary carrier and (ii) the second carrier as the primary carrier.

  • Patent number: 9960872
Abstract: A network device including first and second queues, a determination module, a counter module, a comparison module and a blocking shaper. The determination module determines a size of the second frame. The counter module determines an amount of time remaining in a guard band and converts the amount of time to a size representative of the time remaining in the guard band. The guard band refers to a period of time leading up to a window. The first frame is scheduled to be forwarded from the first queue during the window. The comparison module compares the size of the second frame to the size representative of the time remaining in the guard band and generates a result based on the comparison. The blocking shaper, based on the result, determines whether to permit or block transmission of the second frame from the second queue during the guard band.

  • Patent number: 9942794
Abstract: A user of a communications network is prevented from consuming an excessive amount of channel bandwidth by restricting use of the channel in accordance with the type of data being downloaded to the user. The user is provided an initial number of credits. As the user consumes the credits, the data being downloaded is checked to determine if is permissible or non-permissible. Non-permissible data includes file-sharing files and movie downloads if user subscription does not permit such activity. If the data is permissible, the user is provided another allotment of credits equal to the initial allotment. If the data is non-permissible, the user is provided an allotment of credits less than the initial allotment. Various restriction policies also can be applied, such as levying additional fees and/or terminating the user's access to the channel. Also, incentives can be provided to entice the user curb the misuse.

  • Patent number: 9924483
Abstract: Internet protocol (IP) address allocations in distributed EPC networks can be published to an IP address registry maintained at the central EPC entity in order to facilitate the routing of authentication authorization, and accounting (AAA) signaling of third party networks throughout the distributed EPC network architecture. The address allocations can be published directly to an address registry maintained by the central EPC entity, or indirectly via a cloud management server. Additionally, latencies associated with UE authentication in distributed EPC network architectures can be mitigated by triggering communication of the authentication or authorization profile upon reception of an update location request (ULR) message at the central EPC network entity.
