  • Patent number: 6778977
Abstract: A method and system for creating an index for a database table of records in a computer environment having a plurality of processing units wherein each processing unit has access to the database table. The method first determines partition delimiters wherein each partition delimiter separates the database table into non-overlapping partitions of records. Each of these partitions is dedicated to one processing unit for index creation. Next, each processing unit independently creates a sub-index, i.e., different processing units create at least two sub-indexes. Last, the method merges the sub-indexes together to create a final index related to the database table.

  • Patent number: 6748402
Abstract: A conversion tool inputs an address book downloaded from an interactive pager executing an operating system that is not compatible with personal information managers. The conversion tool outputs a user database in a format compatible with a target personal information manager. The conversion tool analyzes each record of contact information in the address book information file to determine the corresponding field of the target personal information manager. If there is no corresponding field in the personal information manager, the conversion tool places the record in a default field in the target personal information manager. The determination is made on the basis of a pre-determined mapping of field names from the address book information file to the target personal information manager. The user database is merged with a corporate database in a personal information manager contacts list database.
