    Abstract: A stabilized support which is both small and light-weight in construction, and which receives the equipment with which it is used upon an expanded support network which deploys (positions) the supported equipment in a manner which alters the position of its center of gravity so that the resulting unit can be effectively supported at its center of gravity by an interrupted handle which includes a major portion which can be engaged for overall support and transport of the unit, and a minor portion which includes a control surface which is accessible by the operator's hand to achieve controlled orientation of the equipment support, separated by an appropriate device for providing mutual angular isolation between the two portions of the compound handle. The handle for the equipment support therefore provides all of the functions which are necessary for appropriate operation of the equipment which it supports, such as a portable video camera or the like.

    Abstract: A method is disclosed whereby a motion picture projector is equipped to operate at two or more different speeds, such as 24 and 30 frames per second. It is envisioned that different parts of a motion picture may be recorded at different frame rates, to variably impart a highly intense effect upon the audience, expanding the parameters of creative control for the producer of the film. In operation, the method described facilitates switching between these different frame rates, both during the presentation of a single motion picture and between pictures. Cue signals recorded onto the film actuate the change in speed. The projector is automatically set to switch operation into a different speed, and the frames of the film that will be shown during the transitional period are prepared to give the audience the impression of a smooth transition between speeds.

    Abstract: A copying machine has an optical unit for forming a latent image on a photosensitive drum which corresponds to an original document supported for copying on a glass table of the copying machine. The copying machine is operable in two copying modes, in which the document is positioned at either a left reference mark on the glass table or at a right reference mark. The optical unit includes four (4) mirrors for scanning the original document and a lens, which are supported for movement on a plurality of carriages. In the left reference mode, a document to be copied is positioned at the left side of the glass table. The first carriage, which supports a first mirror, is moved to scan the document to be copied. A second carriage, which supports a second and third mirror, is also moved during the scanning operation but at one-half the speed of the first carriage. In the right reference mode, a document to be copied is set at the right side of the glass table.

    Abstract: A developing unit comprising a developing chamber having an upper film pass roller and a lower film pass roller, a gasifying chamber, and a heating chamber, discharging outlets connecting from the heating chamber to the developing chamber at upper and lower portions of the upper film pass roller, and sucking inlets connecting from the developing chamber to the gasifying chamber at upper and lower portions of the lower film pass roller, so that the surface area of each sucking inlet is made substantially equal to that of each discharging outlet. This improves convection efficiency of the hot blast and thus temperature differences between the upper and lower portions within the developing chamber thereby preventing tone variations of the copied images.

    Abstract: An automatic focusing system has an automatic parallax correction for use with a camera, which is either a motion picture camera or a video camera. A pan/tilt head is mounted on a tripod. The automatic focusing system includes a plate, a motorized turntable, a housing and a range finder. The plate is mounted on the pan/tilt head. The camera is mounted on the plate. The motorized turntable is also mounted on the plate. The motorized turntable is servo controlled. The motorized turntable is disposed a fixed and known first distance from the camera and is made to rotate along an axis parallel to the pan-axis of the pan/tilt head. The housing is mounted on the motorized turntable. The range finder is disposed in and mechanically coupled to the housing.

The gate includes a pair of rollers for supporting the film at an imaging station and a pair of drive belts which clamp the film against the rollers. An integrating cylinder located above the film gate produces a line of light on the film, and light transmitted through the film in imaged onto a linear CCD image sensor. In order to insure that the end of the film is held flat at the imaging station, movable guides are provided to selectively engage the film adjacent the line of light on the film.

    Abstract: There is provided a method for detecting change points between cuts from motion picture images including a plurality of consecutive images. First of all, in this method, motion picture images which are the subject of detection of change point between cuts are inputted in a time series by taking a frame as the unit, and a predetermined feature quantity including a color histogram possessed by image data of said motion picture images is produced while taking a frame as the unit. A correlation coefficient with respect to feature quantity between the above described feature quantity and a feature quantity produced in an immediately preceding frame is then produced. Further, a change rate between the correlation coefficient of the current frame and a correlation coefficient produced for a frame preceding the current frame is produced. A time point whereat the change rate exceeds a predetermined allowable value is detected as a change point between cuts of the motion picture images.

    Abstract: The improved slit scanning exposure apparatus has a variable slit assembly that is provided in proximity with the exposing zone and which is composed of two slit plates movable independently of each other in synchronism with the scannning speed. The apparatus may additionally have a color filter that can be inserted into the optical path of reflected light from the image on a document in the scanning direction. The apparatus is capable of preventing flare from being admitted through an exposure slit to a light-sensitive material on the exposure position when it is being exposed from light reflected from the document image. In addition, the apparatus enables more than one document image to be edited into a single image and permits the color filter to be inserted into the optical path of reflected light without causing unevenness in colors.

    Abstract: In a document imaging apparatus in which documents are fed to an imaging station and then fed to a documents catch tray system for automatic document restacking, there is provided a common, shared, restacking catch tray receiving either cut sheet documents or computer form (CF) web documents at the upper surface of the imaging apparatus, rather than dropping the CF web down to a tray below the end of the apparatus. This dual mode restacking catch tray is pivotable from a first position at a generally horizontal tray angle for restacking cut sheet documents into a second position at a preferred angle for fan-folding a computer form web. There is also an upper baffle unit partially overlying the output path to the restacking area, which is pivotable between a first position for planarly guiding cut sheet documents, and a second, raised, position for guiding a computer form web arcuately and then downwardly into the restacking area with an integral CF guide baffle.

    Abstract: A diazo copy machine comprises a roll of diazo sensitized copy paper cradled between a pair of drive rollers above an exposure apparatus. The copy machine is activated by insertion of an original tracing sheet whereupon the copy paper and original are automatically fed in superimposed relation into the entrance of the exposure apparatus, with the leading edge of the copy paper being advanced by a programmable amount relative to the leading edge of the original. Upon exiting the exposure apparatus the superimposed sheets are directed to an automatic sheet separating apparatus which deflects and feeds the copy paper along a downward path to a developer and carries the original along an exit path out of the front of the copy machine. In the event that the two superimposed sheets both inadvertently enter the downward path, a fail-safe mode of operation is initiated for redirecting both sheets along the exit path.

A helical driven gear which engages a drive gear driven by the motor is axially translatable between a first position corresponding to the forward direction and a second position corresponding to the reverse direction. Since it is a helical gear, the amount of axial translation adjusts the relative angular position of the shutter with respect to the frame advance mechanism.

The film is held flat by lateral tension applied outward in all directions from the center portion of the area of the film being viewed by rubberized type O-rings in grooves on each of the aperture plates being clamped against the film by various clamping direct transverse pressure means. The lateral tension is caused by the stretch of the O-ring outward from the center of the aperture by the shape of grooves in the plates constraining any inward movement but providing bias movement of the O-rings outward.
