  • Patent number: 4873967
Abstract: A knee orthosis is disclosed providing forces approximating the forces exerted by predetermined knee ligaments; and which further protects against hyperextension, more specifically, the knee orthosis of the present invention provides a hinge having three members extending from a central portion, two extending upwardly and attached to the leg above the knee and one member extending downwardly and attached to the leg below the knee. During the last 15.degree. to 45.degree. of extension, the hinge, through these three members, exerts an increasing force to the anterior of the tibia proximate to the knee, so that during these critical angles of rotation the tibia may be maintained in its proper position with respect to the femur.

  • Patent number: 4872275
Abstract: A ditch cleaning machine is for a longitudinally extending ditch having in a vertical trapezoidal transverse cross-section a greater width at the top than at the bottom and having slanting side walls. The machine has a steerable main frame ground-supported and engine-driven to advance along the ditch. The two-wheel main frame is laterally stabilized by adjustable outrigger wheels. A pair of cleaning rotors is pivoted to the main frame and to the forward end of a longitudinal elevator trough so as to engage the ditch side walls. The elevator trough rests on a transverse roller on the main frame, and the trough and the cleaning rotors are jackknifed about a transverse axis by a hydraulic jack connected to the elevator trough and to the main frame. Conveyor flights move debris from the cleaning rotors at the ditch bottom along the elevator trough for discharge onto a transverse conveyor extendable to and discharging from either side of the main frame.

  • Patent number: 4858526
Abstract: A hand stamp comprises a casing which in the lower portion thereof has a printing member for producing an invariable text such as the name of a company, a logotype or the like and further houses a printing unit which is vertically displaceable in said casing and comprises a belt with a plurality of separate printing blocks which selectively may be shifted by means of shifting wheels. Said printing unit can be locked in an upper position in which the shifting wheels are accessible for setting through an opening in the casing. A compression spring normally keeps the printing unit in a lower active position in which the printing surface thereof is located beneath the printing surface giving the invariable text to allow said printing unit to make an imprint before the invariable text is printed and with a printing pressure solely obtained by said compression spring. In the lower position of the printing unit the shifting wheels thereof are not accessible through the opening in the casing.

  • Patent number: 4848013
Abstract: In ground engaging tools, reliable fastening devices are needed to quickly and effectively secure replaceable earth working tips to adapters. The fastening pin assembly should be configured in such a way as to prevent pin loss or breakage which causes the tip to be lost and/or the adapter damaged. This invention consists of two pins and an interconnecting and retaining means. When assembled, each pin will extend approximately to the middle portion of the adapter through axially aligned bores defined in both the tip and adapter. The interconnecting and retaining means is located in the middle portion of the adapter between the two pins and retains the pins in the adapter bore. This invention protects against pin loss/and or breakage and is beneficial to all type of earth working replaceable tip applications.

  • Patent number: 4843742
Abstract: A trenching apparatus (10) is for excavating deep trenches in which inground concrete retaining or foundation walls may be formed. The trenching apparatus (10) has a crawler base (11) on which a carrier assembly (14) is pivotally supported by pivots (16) whereby it may be tilted by rams (17) to maintain the platform horizontal. An automatic control device (64) is provided for this purpose. The carrier assembly (14) has a pair of rails (18/19) along which a carriage (21) may move. The carriage (21) supports a sleeve (24) through which a trenching arm (25) may be lowered to excavate a trench section as the carriage (21) is driven along the rails (18/19).

  • Patent number: 4844631
Abstract: The platen (11) is mounted between two side plates (9-10) of equipment which is hinged to two risers (5-6) to rotate about an axis .gamma. running parallel to the axis of the platen. The platen is provided with a freewheel mechanism including an inner ring (28) which is connected to the platen and an outer ring (29) which is provided with a peg (31) engaged in a slot (8) in a fixed member (7). The slot is situated on the opposite side of the platen axis .DELTA. relative to the axis of rotation .gamma. and in substantially the same plane. Detector means (36-37) for detecting the presence of a document in an insertion channel (17) cause the platen to rotate in the direction in which the freewheel mechanism drives the outer ring, thereby pressing the peg against the slot and rocking the equipment about the axis .gamma. thus allowing a document to pass between the print head and the platen until it meets an abutment (14) which is moved into place by the rocking action.

  • Patent number: 4844057
Abstract: An orthopedic hinge joint mechanism for proteciton of unstable or injured knees. Four coacting members are rotably fastened each to the next in a series. The first and third members lie in one plane and the second and fourth lie in an adjacent parallel plane. The members in the same plane abut in gears. As a result of this construction the hinge moves symmetrically about its center and effectivley simulates the complex action of the human knee joint.

  • Patent number: 4835888
Abstract: A digging tooth and holder therefor for use with an excavating machine including trenchers and backhoe buckets. The tooth holder is suitably attached to the excavating machine, and includes a tooth receiving pocket formed therein for removably receiving the shank of a digging tooth in an improved manner therein. The digging tooth shank rearwardly extends from the tooth and is made into a special configuration which enables power applied thereto from the excavating machine to be transferred into the working end of the tooth in a new and unusual manner. The working end of the tooth inculdes an elongated, concave upper surface, a cylindrical lower surface, and a plurality of longitudinal extending reinforcing ribs which are formed on the cylindrical lower surface, all of which cooperate together to impart great strength into the tooth and also enables the tooth to dig in hard formations in an improved manner.

  • Patent number: 4836696
Abstract: A printing apparatus wherein a platen for supporting a recording medium printed by a print head is pivotally supported by a support member. The support member, which extends between left and right side frames of the printer, includes a first and a second engaging portion at its opposite ends. These engaging portions respectively engage an aperture and a cutout formed through the respective side frames, so that the support member and the platen are pivotally supported by the side frames. The cutout is aligned with the aperture, and is open at an edge of the corresponding side frame. This side frame includes a detent portion disposed adjacent to the cutout. The support member further includes a third engaging portion which engages the detent portion, thereby preventing the second engaging portion from being disengaged from the cutout through the open end of the cutout.
