  • Patent number: 10489930
Abstract: A system and method for markers with digitally encoded geographic coordinate information for use in an augmented reality (AR) system. The method provides accurate location information for registration of digital data and real world images within an AR system. The method includes automatically matching digital data within an AR system by utilizing a digitally encoded marker (DEM) containing world coordinate information system and mathematical offset of digital data and a viewing device. The method further includes encoding geographic coordinate information into markers (e.g., DEMs) and decoding the coordinate information into an AR system. Through use of the method and corresponding system, marker technology and the basis of geo-location technology can be combined into a geo-located marker, thereby solving the problem of providing accurate registration within an augmented reality.

  • Patent number: 10489651
Abstract: A technique is described herein for determining the position of at least one previously-placed physical marker in a physical environment. In one approach, the technique detects the marker at plural vantage points in the environment, to yield plural instances of marker information. The technique then computes the position of the marker based on the plural instances of marker information collected at the plural vantage points. The technique may also provide a movement indicator that assists the user in moving to specified vantage points in the physical environment. The technique may use the identified position(s) of the marker(s) to accurately place virtual objects relative to real-world objects in a modified-reality world.

  • Patent number: 10429926
Abstract: Physical object addition and removal based on affordance and view. A method tracks eye gaze of a group of users who view an environment, the group of users each having a respective field of view to the environment. The method assesses, based on the tracking, whether an object present in the respective fields of view of the group of users is clutter. The method also initiates a physical change to the environment based on the assessing. In some examples, assessing whether the object is clutter includes determining an extent to which the group of users avoid the object by looking around or away from the object, measuring visual dwell time on and around the object by the group of users, and/or identifying affordances of the object based on input from the group of users and/or on correlating the object to another object having known affordances associated therewith.

  • Patent number: 10419788
Abstract: A video processing system receives a custom view request specifying a virtual camera perspective from which a dynamic scene in a physical environment is to be viewed. The video processing system generates a custom view of the scene from the virtual camera perspective, where generating the custom view includes generating the custom view based on both video content captured by one or more physical cameras and a dynamic three dimensional scene model of the scene residing within data storage. The video processing system records the custom view within on-demand video content and transmits the on-demand video content to a video presentation system.

  • Patent number: 10410317
Abstract: A digital image transformation environment is described that employs spline handles. A spline handle is generated by a spline handle generation module of the computing device based on a segment with respect to artwork in a digital image as including control points. A second user input is then received as moving an internal point on the spline handle between the first and second endpoints from a first location to a second location in the user interface. In response, the spline handle generation module regenerates the segment of the spline handle as including the internal point at the second location by adjusting a tangent handle. Next, a digital image transformation module is employed to determine a transformation to be applied to the artwork based on the regenerated segment of the spline handle, which is applied to the artwork.

  • Patent number: 10380803
Abstract: An exemplary mixed reality presentation system accesses video data representative of a real-world environment proximate to a mixed reality player device that is configured to present, to a user of the mixed reality player device, a mixed reality presentation. In the mixed reality presentation, one or more virtual objects included within a virtual domain associated with the real-world environment are presented together with real objects included within the real-world environment. The mixed reality presentation system identifies, based on the accessed video data, a target object among the real objects included within the real-world environment. The mixed reality presentation system extracts the target object from the mixed reality presentation and replaces, within the mixed reality presentation, the target object with a virtual object included within the virtual domain. The virtual object implements a representation of the target object. Corresponding methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: A method of defining a path model from a set of realistic paths is provided, where each path in the set of realistic paths is expanded on piece-wise polynomial basis, and a respective centroid function and sequence of eigenfunctions calculated for each expanded representation. A set of principle paths representing the major variation of this set of paths is obtained describing the variations of the set of realistic paths with respect to the centroid. The path model thus comprises a linear combination of said principle paths. The path model may be used as the basis for the generation of new curves having similar characteristics to the original set of realistic paths.

  • Patent number: 10366538
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for representing a virtual object in a real environment, having the following steps: generating a two-dimensional image of a real environment by means of a recording device, ascertaining a position of the recording device relative to at least one component of the real environment, segmenting at least one area of the real environment unmarked in reality in the two-dimensional image for identifying at least one segment of the real environment in distinction to a remaining part of the real environment while supplying corresponding segmentation data, and merging the virtual object with the two-dimensional image of the real environment with consideration of the segmentation data such that at least one part of the segment of the real environment is removed from the image of the real environment. The invention permits any collisions of virtual objects with real objects that occur upon merging with a real environment to be represented in a way largely close to reality.
