Abstract: A high-speed stereo 3D multimodal imaging system including a beam splitter, a pair of mirrors, a tight focus lens, a microscope stage, an imaging lens, a large area array detector, and a true 3D imaging module is provided. The beam splitter is configured to generate near-infrared ultrafast pulsed laser sub-beams with different angles. The mirrors respectively reflect the beams. The tight focus lens tightly focuses the beams onto a 3D micro-nanoscale sample, which can be carried and three-dimensionally displaced by the microscope stage. The imaging lens collects signals generated due to scattering of the tightly focused beams that are irradiated onto the sample so as to obtain two 2D images. The large area array detector simultaneously detects the two 2D images so that the true 3D imaging module can perform a true 3D imaging according to the detected 2D images. A high-speed stereo 3D multimodal imaging method is also provided.

Abstract: Apparatuses, systems, and methods for dynamically shaped focal surface with a scanning microscope. A microscope (e.g., a scanning confocal microscope) may use a scanning element to scan an illumination beam to generate a focal region. The scanning element may include multiple degrees of freedom, such as rotation and translation along orthogonal axes. For example, if the illumination beam is a line focus, rotation along a first axis and translation along a second orthogonal axis may sweep the line focus across a focal surface which is substantially flat and normal to the second axis. In some embodiments, the microscope may be a dual-axis handheld microscope, where a single objective in a handheld housing is used to both direct the scanned illumination beam and receive the collected light.

Abstract: A contact lens incorporating one or more surface modified zones on the anterior surface of the lens may be utilized to generate a friction driven rotational force when the upper and/or lower eyelids pass over the one or more regions during blinking. A small difference in the coefficient of friction between the modified and unmodified regions of the lens may result in an equivalent rotational force to that of a thickness gradient lens. This small difference in the coefficient of friction produces a means to orient and stabilize the contact lens on eye.
