  • Patent number: 6122518
Abstract: In a mobile communication system including a switching network and at least one base station operatively connected to the switching network, the base station having a definite number of traffic channels, a memory stores information regarding whether each of the traffic channels is non-free, a data-free or speech-free. A control unit compares information transfer capability included in a call set-up message from one mobile station or to the mobile station with the information of the memory and sets up a call connection between the mobile station and one of the traffic channels in accordance with the result of the comparison.

  • Patent number: 6101389
Abstract: In a method of assigning an idle channel in which a base station assigns an idle channel in response to a link channel establishment request from a mobile terminal, a criterion level for judging whether an idle channel is to be used or not is set to an appropriate level which is higher than a limit level of a ratio of an interference level to a detectable signal receiving level (a DU ratio). In response to a link channel establishment request from a mobile terminal, the base station performs carrier sensing operation to obtain all idle channels and signal receiving levels of the idle channels, selects an idle channel having a level which exceeds the set criterion level and is closest to the criterion level, and assigns the selected idle channel as a link channel.

  • Patent number: 6097944
Abstract: A system for linking transmissions from multiple wireless transmission sites over a wide area by centrally controlling the batching of transmissions at the sites. The transmission sites are grouped into one or more zones. The system includes a controller (control point equipment) for receiving data representing transmission requests and associating each request with a unique serial number, and for sending transmissions having control information to sites in one or more zones by addressing each of the transmissions with one of a plurality of zone addresses in which each zone address defines one or more zones. For each zone, the controller stores the transmission requests in a master database, with their associated serial number, which are pending for the zone.

  • Patent number: 6094579
Abstract: A system and method of performing presence verification for a multiple-hyperband mobile station in a candidate cell for handoff in a multiple-hyperband cellular telecommunications network. The network includes a mobile switching center (MSC) and a plurality of cells, each of which operates in one of a plurality of hyperbands. A single verification device such as a location and verification module (LVM) is installed in each cell in the cellular network, each LVM operating in the cell's allocated hyperband. When a verification request is generated, the system determines whether the candidate cell has an LVM in the hyperband in which the mobile station is operating. If not, the system determines whether the candidate cell has an overlaid cell, and whether the overlaid cell has an LVM operating in the hyperband in which the mobile station is operating. If so, the system then utilizes the LVM of the overlaid cell to verify the presence of the mobile station in the candidate cell.

  • Patent number: 6094587
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for programming a ringing tone of a telephone, wherein, in the telephone, the ringing tone is stored in a ringing tone memory and reproduced by means of sound reproduction devices as a response to an incoming call. In the method, the ringing tone is transformed into characters containing specifications of notes and the characters are sent to the telephone, e.g., in a short message. In the telephone, the received characters are modified into such a form that they can be stored in a memory.

  • Patent number: 6075992
Abstract: An apparatus and method of automatically handling initiation of a call by a portable intelligent communications device to a designated recipient, including the steps of determining local time for the designated recipient and determining from the local time whether to permit initiation of the call to the designated recipient. The method also includes the steps of storing time zone information for the designated recipient and calculating from the designated recipient time zone information the local time. Additionally, the method will include the steps of storing at least one phone number for the designated recipient, storing a time range during which said designated recipient may be called at each phone number, and comparing the local time of the designated recipient to the stored time range.

  • Patent number: 6070077
Abstract: A method for selecting traffic channels of a mobile telecommunication base station is disclosed. Normal traffic channel elements and busy traffic channel elements are calculated and compared with each other, and a judgment is made as to whether there is a usable traffic channel element. Busy traffic channel elements of respective shelves are compared with each other to select a shelf having smallest busy traffic channel elements. Busy traffic channel elements of the selected shelf are compared with normal traffic channel elements of the same shelf, to judge as to whether there is a usable traffic channel element. A termination condition is incremented by 1 upon finding a usable traffic channel element, and a judgment is made as to whether the selected shelf index is smaller than a last shelf index. The channel card index is updated, and the self index is incremented by 1 upon finding the selected shelf index to be smaller than a last, and confirming the sequential selected shelf index.
