  • Patent number: 6107783
Abstract: A solid state control circuit controls handlebar heaters on a snowmobile or similar responding loads. Circuit is supplied by AC voltage with variations in frequency and waveform of the AC input. A portion of this input is rectified and compared with a rectified portion of the output voltage. The difference between these two signals is used to supply two amplifying devices. A control signal to a switching device selectively connects one polarity of the AC to the load. The circuit is adapted to be disabled by the application of an external voltage typically from a brake light switch and bulb. The opposite polarity of the waveform is controlled from the AC to the load by sensing the DC component across the load and using a second switching device to drive this DC value to a negligible value. Components are incorporated that are sensitive to temperature and also waveform to produce higher output heating at high vehicle speed and lower operating ambient temperatures or airflows.

  • Patent number: 6087734
Abstract: A power output apparatus 20 includes a clutch motor, an assist motor, and a controller. The clutch motor and the assist motor are controlled by the controller to enable the power output from an engine to a crankshaft 56, and expressed as the product of its revolving speed and torque, to be converted to the power expressed as the product of a revolving speed and a torque of a drive shaft and to be output to the drive shaft. The engine can be driven at an arbitrary driving point defined by a revolving speed and a torque, as long as the energy or power output to the crankshaft is identical. A desired driving point that attains the highest possible efficiency with respect to each amount of output energy is determined in advance. In order to allow the engine to be driven at the desired driving point, the controller controls the clutch motor and the assist motor as well as the fuel injection and the throttle valve position.

  • Patent number: 6020652
Abstract: In the engine braking operation of supercharged internal combustion engines, the braking power is generated by backing-up the exhaust gas before it enters an exhaust gas turbine of an exhaust gas turbocharger from an actuator in the exhaust gas duct. In order to make it possible to control the braking power within the operating limits of the exhaust gas turbocharger, the actual value and a maximum value of the turbine inlet pressure within the operating limits of the exhaust gas turbo supercharger are inferred from a performance graph of the internal combustion engine, which performance graph includes an electronically stored compressor performance graph of the supercharged air compressor which represents the relationship between mass throughput and total pressure ratio of the compressor and in which a plurality of engine operating lines for certain actuator positions and certain engine speeds as well as for a constant turbine inlet pressure are recorded.

  • Patent number: 6020651
Abstract: A pump controller (40) calculates a pump maximum absorbing horsepower and a pump required horsepower based on an accelerator signal, a pump delivery pressure and an operation signal, determines an engine required horsepower (PN) by selecting minimum one of both horsepower values, and calculates a pump required revolution speed based on the accelerator signal, the operation signal and an engine revolution speed signal to determine an engine required revolution speed (NN). The engine controller (40) determines, from the engine required horsepower (PN), a required-horsepower-referenced target engine revolution speed (NK) at which a fuel consumption rate is minimized, and selects larger one of the engine required revolution speed (NN) and the target engine revolution speed (NK) as an engine target revolution speed (NZ) to control an injected fuel amount and fuel injection timing, thereby controlling an engine torque and an engine output revolution speed.

  • Patent number: 6014016
Abstract: A generator control device disposed in a generator has a signal terminal to be connected to an outside control unit. The control device is composed of a voltage regulating circuit, a first circuit for controlling the regulating circuit according to a potential change of the signal terminal and a second circuit for changing potential level of the signal terminal according to a generator condition. The generator condition signal is transmitted through a signal wire to the outside control unit, and a switch-on signal of the ignition switch is sent to the control device through the signal wire from the outside control unit.

  • Patent number: 6005372
Abstract: A vehicle generator controller for regulating the output voltage from a generator which charges a battery mounted on a vehicle comprises battery voltage detection means for detecting the drop of a battery voltage, a switching element for controlling the field current of the generator, gradual increase control means for gradually increasing the current generated by the generator by gradually increasing the switching element by intermittently operating the switching element when the battery voltage drops and gradual increase prohibition means for canceling the gradual increase control at the beginning of the drop of the battery voltage and gradually increases the field current after the conducting ratio of the switching element is set to 100%. With this arrangement, the vehicle generator controller suppresses a torque shock caused in response to the turn-on of an electric load as well as sufficiently suppresses the drop of a battery voltage.

  • Patent number: 5994786
Abstract: In a starter for an engine, a magnet switch attracts a plunger by a magnetic force generated by a solenoid coil wound around a sleeve, so that a pinion fitted on an output shaft of a starter motor is driven by movement of the plunger to engage with an engine ring gear. The the plunger is pressed to contact tightly with the sleeve, whereby the relative movement between the plunger and the sleeve is restricted as long as the coil is held deenergized. The pressing may be attained by an inclined surface provided on the plunger or a flexture of a transmitting member which connects the plunger and a pinion.
