Abstract: Methods and systems for providing location-aware WiFi access for a portable device include determining an initial location of the portable device and transmitting the initial location to a WiFi location provider, wherein the WiFi location provider comprises locations and WiFi parameters for a plurality of WiFi access points, wherein each WiFi access point has a corresponding wireless range. The locations and the WiFi parameters for a set of WiFi access points are then received from the WiFi location provider, wherein the set of WiFi access points are within a radius of the initial location of the portable device. At least one WiFi access point in the set of WiFi access points is scanned for that contains the portable device within its wireless range. The portable device then connects to the at least one WiFi access point, thereby forming a WiFi connection.
Abstract: Described herein are systems and methods for commissioning access control devices. In overview, a carrier substrate such as a smartcard is used to commission a plurality of access control devices. Measures are implemented such that the individual access control devices are uniquely commissioned. That is, no two devices apply identical commissioning data, hi some embodiments this is achieved by, as part of the commissioning process at a given access control device, modifying one or more aspects of the data carried by the carrier substrate.

Abstract: A high-tensile belt-type tag including a belt, a high-tensile transmission line, an antenna and a radio frequency identification (RFID) chip is provided, wherein the belt includes a belt body and a retaining ring. The belt body is suitable to slip into an opening of the retaining ring and preventing the belt body from slipping out of the opening. The high-tensile transmission line, the antenna and the RFID chip are disposed in the belt, and the high-tensile transmission line encircles the whole belt in accordance with a shape of the belt. Moreover, the RFID chip is coupled to the antenna through the high-tensile transmission line, wherein when the high-tensile transmission line is split as the belt is cut off, the RFID chip cannot delivers an identification code through the antenna due to split of the high-tensile transmission line.

Abstract: A vibration protection and condition monitoring system with true digital signal processing based design, with very limited analog based general signal conditioning and integrated specific sensor conditioning and sensor power supply options. In addition to the support for common Eddy Current Probe Systems (employing an external Driver), the device also supports direct connection of the Eddy Current Probe to the module, due to an built-in driver and linearization functionality. The system is a distributed system where the vibration protection and at least a part of the condition monitoring is in an intrinsically safe (IS) distributed unit located on or at the rotating machinery, even in hazardous areas.
Abstract: Methods and systems for location detection are disclosed. One method includes a plurality of base stations of a location system obtaining information about at least one tag associated with the location system. One of the plurality of base stations is designated as a master base station for each tag. Each master base station electro-magnetically transmits beacons to each tag that the master base station has been designated as the master of. Each tag responds to the electro-magnetically transmitted beacons with an acoustic signal that identifies the tag. Multiple of the plurality of base stations, receive the acoustic signal of each tag. A location of each tag is estimated based on times of arrival of each acoustic signal of each tag at each of the multiple base stations, and based on location information of each of the multiple base stations.
Abstract: This invention relates generally to a method and system for storing, retrieving, and managing data for tags that are associated in some manner to any type of object. More particularly, the present invention writes data to these tags, reads data from these tags, and manages data that is written to and/or read from these tags.
Abstract: A method and system for location determination and guidance using radio frequency identification (RFID) are disclosed. A location of a mobile RFID reader can be determined by detecting stationary RFID tags located at fixed locations. Each RFID tag stores location information associated with its position as well as location information of at least one other RFID tag. The location information stored by each RFID tag can be used to direct a user from one RFID tag to another. Thus, RFID technology is also used to guide mobile RFID reader between the fixed locations of the stationary RFID tags.
Abstract: In some embodiments, a wall-mountable, configurable controller having control keys (e.g., less than eight keys or another small number of keys), a subassembly including circuitry, and a control key insert removably mountable to the subassembly and including at least one of the control keys. The circuitry can include a limit switch that is biased in a default state but moveable into a learning state in response to user-exerted force. In some embodiments, the controller includes an IR emitter and an IR receiver and is operable to clone another device by sending configuring radiation from the emitter to the other device's IR receiver. Preferably, the emitter and receiver are positioned so that a controller's IR emitter aligns with the IR receiver of an identical controller when the controllers are positioned face to face. In some embodiments, the controller provides audible and visual feedback to users when operating in a learning mode.
Abstract: A license detector system enables a person such as a police officer to monitor vehicles on the road to ensure drivers have valid licenses. Within each valid license is an RFID tag which contains specific information and each RFID tag is able to send that information to a detector when requested. To use the system, the police officer aims the detector at a vehicle, initiates the signal to be received by the RFID tag within the license and waits to receive a signal back from the RFID tag. If a signal is received, then a valid license has been detected within the vehicle. However, if no signal or an invalid signal is received by the detector, then no one, specifically the driver of the car, has a valid license. Upon discovering such information, the police officer should be justified in stopping the vehicle and taking the necessary police action.
