Abstract: A process for applying an opaque covering to the metal casting to a metal - ceramic restoration comprising mixing powdered opaque porcelain with molten wax, heating the resultant mixture to a temperature approximately 2.degree. to 5.degree. C. above the melting point of the wax and applying the heated mixture to a metal casting base of the dental restoration.
Abstract: A coated article having a silver colored ornamental appearance is provided. The coated article includes a layer of pure, active metallic chromium coated on a substrate and an outer layer of chromium nitride carbide on the chromium layer. Intermediate mixed layers including metallic chromium, chromium nitride, chromium carbide and chromium nitride carbide may also be provided. The plating layers adhere strongly to the substrate. The coated article has good wear and mar resistant properties and a color tone similar to that of stainless steel.
Abstract: A supporting matrix for catalytically active compounds, for use, for example, in catalysts for the catalytic cracking of nitrogen oxides, is constructed of a metal core (1), an intermediate layer (3) of vitreous enamel bonded onto this core, and a porous ceramic cover coating (5) applied to the vitreous enamel intermediate layer. The supporting matrix is made by dipping the metal core into a vitreous enamel slip followed by firing at 800.degree. to 900.degree. C. The enameled metal core is then fired in a second firing to form the ceramic cover coating which represents the actual support for the catalytically active compounds.
Abstract: The invention includes a variety of adaptors for forming enclosures and other apparatus from sectioned integral containers. Each adaptor described includes suitable means such as a channel structure for attaching the adaptor to the sectioned open end of an integral container. The adaptor itself may form an enclosure with the container, or, in other embodiments, join the attached, sectioned container portion with another container sectio or other form of closure. The described adaptors are particularly designed for use with cylindrical plastic beverage container assemblies including an integral, dome bottom, cylindrically shaped container and container base piece adapted to receive and support the dome end of the container. A number of plant irrigation devices are described formed by sectioned portions of conventional integral containers and special adaptors of the invention.
Abstract: A temperature indicating composition is provided for use on a recoverable article so that heating to produce recovery or to activate a heat-activatable sealant can be monitored. The composition comprises a thermochromic colorant in a binder that can be cured by UV radiation. Such a composition can be applied rapidly to polyolefin substrates by printing.

Abstract: A disposable body warmer comprises a heat generating material and a structure for retaining the material. The retaining structure may be provided on its one side with a reflecting material. The heat generating material consists essentially of at least one oxide of alkaline earth metals such as magnesium oxide with a plate crystal structure and, if necessary, contains an additive such as a salt selected from the group consisting of chlorides and sulphides of alkali metals and alkaline earth metals.
Abstract: An ophthalmic treatment system is provided which includes three-dimensional particles of bioerodible material suspended in a liquid carrier or ointment carrier having a pH acceptable to the eye. The particles are at least 0.5 mm in greatest dimension and are not greater than 0.4 mm to 0.7 mm in smallest dimension when disposed in the ocular environment. The treatment system provides reliable, prolonged continuous treatment without irritating the eye.
Abstract: A wound dressing for use with exuding wounds is provided comprising a porous hydrophobic layer adapted to directly contact the wound during use and an adjacent absorbent layer attached to said hydrophobic layer, said hydrophobic layer comprised of an elastic net-like porous reinforcing component substantially completely encapsulated by a soft and elastic hydrophobic gel while retaining the porosity of said reinforcing component, said hydrophobic layer thus including openings which permit wound exudate to pass through said hydrophobic layer to be absorbed by said outer absorbent layer.
Abstract: An anti-reflection coating with n layers on an optical part substrate made of synthetic resin wherein n is 3, 4, or 5, and the first layer at the air side comprises silicon dioxide (SiO.sub.2), and the n-th layer on the surface of the synthetic resin comprises ceric oxide (CeO.sub.2) is excellent in reflection reducing effect and does not result in the age-based change of the refractive index. And that the very good adhesion of the reflection reducing coating with the substrate results in hardness of layer stripping.Further an anti-reflection coating of the invention has reflection reducing effect in the near-infrared region.
Abstract: A zirconia film formed on a substrate and having substantially one or two kinds of particular planes such as (200), (111) or (111) planes only oriented in parallel to the surface of the substrate, and a process for preparing it. This zirconia film is dense, and improved in the thermal resistance, thermal insulation properties and corrosion resistance.
Abstract: A controlled release drug delivery system for placement in the periodontal pocket, gingival sulcus, tooth socket, wound or other cavity within the mouth. The system incorporates drug-containing microparticles in a fluid carrier medium, and is effective in the environment of use for up to 30 days.
Abstract: A dosage form is disclosed comprising a wall that surrounds a compartment with an exit means in the wall. The compartment comprises a first or fast releasing lamina and a second or short releasing lamina that are delivered through the exit means over two different periods of time.
