  • Patent number: 4440522
Abstract: A roof support unit for a longwall mineral mining installation has a roof shield supported above a floor sill. A first hydraulic ram is provided for advancing the roof support unit. The roof shield is provided with a forward extension which is advanceable by means of a second hydraulic advance ram. A hydraulic control arrangement, which includes the two hydraulic advance rams is provided for controlling the advance of the roof shield extension in dependence upon the working stroke of the first hydraulic advance ram. The control arrangement is such that the amount of hydraulic fluid supplied to one of the pressure chambers of the second hydraulic advance ram is dependent upon the amount of hydraulic fluid expelled from one of the pressure chambers of the first hydraulic advance ram during the working stroke of the first hydraulic advance ram.

  • Patent number: 4427321
Abstract: A longwall mineral mining installation has a conveyor and a plurality of roof support units positioned side-by-side on the goaf side of the conveyor. Each roof support unit has a roof shield having an advanceable shield extension. Each unit has a first hydraulic ram for extending its shield extension, and a second hydraulic ram for advancing the conveyor. The extension of each first ram is controlled in dependence upon the retraction of one of the second rams (either the second ram of the same unit or that of an adjacent unit). This control is effected by controlling the supply of pressurized hydraulic fluid to the first rams. In one embodiment this is carried out by a control valve which has a spring-loaded plunger which engages with a series of equispaced cams on the movable cylinder of the associated second ram. In another embodiment, the piston rods of the rams are provided with series of equispaced magnets.

  • Patent number: 4420278
Abstract: The roof of a heading cut by a continuous mining machine is supported by cantilevered roof beams forming part of a shield. There are at least two sets of roof beams which can be raised and lowered separately by means of hydraulic rams. When one set is lowered and the other set is raised, the lowered set can be pushed forward against the raised set by means of hydraulic rams. The cantilevered roof beams extend far enough forward to support the roof over the driving position of the continuous mining machine. The width of the shield should be less than the width of the mining machine, so that the shield can advance along the heading cut by the mining machine. Furthermore, the shield includes a conveyor for conveying the mined material from the mining machine backwards to a shuttle car or other conveying system.

  • Patent number: 4412760
Abstract: There is constructed around pillars of a mine chamber on the ground a rectangular enclosure which is defined by superimposed layers of U-section elements. The concavity of the latter faces inwardly of the enclosure. A pulverulent material is poured by a hydraulic filling method into the enclosure. This pulverent material preferably comprises light fine ash having hydraulic properties. Owing to the reinforcements embedded in the mass, the structure initially behaves as stabilized earth, but, in the end, the material sets and becomes coherent so that finally the structure has a lean concrete character.

  • Patent number: 4401397
Abstract: A method and device for lining a bore shaft extending through an aquiferous formation comprises, lowering a base ring on guide and alignment columns into the bore until the base ring is seated on a shoulder near the bottom of the bore which is at or below the lower end of the aquiferous formation. The base ring with connected columns are then centered in the bore. A plurality of lining rings are then sequentially lowered in a guided and aligned fashion on the column to rest on the base ring and on each other and to form sealing joints therebetween. The space between the thus formed lining and the bore can then be filled with filler material.
