  • Patent number: 5219450
Abstract: A movable asphalt mixing plant which is towed behind a milling machine. The mixing plant includes an input conveyor which receives the crushed aggregate from the milling machine. The aggregate is then introduced into a pug mill carried by the mobile plant. A heated storage tank and appropriate pumps and conduits for asphaltic cement located on the mobile plant allow the asphaltic cement to be mixed with the aggregate in the pug mill. The amount of asphaltic cement added to the aggregate may be controlled by a microprocessor which receives input regarding the production rate and input weight of aggregate. Asphaltic paving material produced by the pug mill is dispensed from the rear of the plant. A heating system employing hot circulating oil is also provided to ensure that the pumps and conduits for the asphaltic cement flow freely. A steering mechanism is provided for the plant to ensure centering for proper reception of aggregate and dispensing of paving material.

  • Patent number: 5218800
Abstract: A side-wall beam is installed on a base for a guideway for a magnetic levitation vehicle. An elastic body is interposed between the side-wall beam and the base. Then, the side-wall beam is fastened to the base with a tendon on an imaginary line which extends through an intermediate portion of the elastic body in the transverse direction of the side-wall beam and which extends along the longitudinal direction of the side-wall beam. The elastic body is thereby held under compression between the side-wall beam and the base. The side-wall beam is supported on the base through the elastic body, and also fastened to the base, holding the elastic body under compression between the side-wall beam and the base. Reactive forces produced by the compression of the elastic body act to resist forces tending to cause the side-wall beam to fall over. Any displacement of the side-wall beam which may be caused by forces generated when the magnetic levitation vehicle passes can thereby be kept within a predetermined range.

  • Patent number: 5216773
Abstract: A method for fabricating and installation of a floating bridge or the like provides that a bridge superstructure is supported by a number of pontoons and has opposite ends anchored to shore fundaments. Prefabricated pontoons are positioned successively at mutually spaced locations on the water surface along a center line of a part of the bridge superstructure being formed. Such pontoons are suitably ballasted. Further bridge superstructure is fabricated successively in sections in a production unit positioned on a barge or on a platform stationarily positioned by the shore. Such sections are being pushed outwardly of the production unit one after the other, with a new section being made as a continuation of a preceding section. The fabricated part of the bridge superstructure, formed of several interconnected sections which gradually are protruded from the barge or platform, is slid or pushed out onto the pontoons that are positioned one after the other, and are mounted thereon.

  • Patent number: 5214817
Abstract: A modular ramp and landing assembly made from a plurality of similarly sized pre-manufactured concrete filled rectangular panels. The ramp portion is made from the modular panels attached by their shorter sides. A support post with an angularly arranged bracket is placed beneath the corners of adjacent panels to secure them together as well as support them. The landing or horizontal portion of this assembly comprises a similarly sized rectangular panel the long side of which is in abutting relationship with the short side of the end of the ramp. Fastener receivers are equi spaced in duplicate patterns from each corner through the bottom edge of each panel. The size of the panels and the spacing of the fastener receivers are such that minimum support legs and brackets may be utilized in constructing this assembly at a final site.

  • Patent number: 5214818
Abstract: An apparatus for operating a dock leveler including a linkage pivotally connected at a first end to the base plate. The second end of the linkage is adapted to selectively engage the center plate at times when the center plate is pivoted from its forward position toward its rearward position. Preferably, a roller is provided on the second end of the linkage and a cam member is mounted on the underside of the center plate in alignment with the path of the roller, such that the roller travels along the cam member to reduce the force required to operate the center plate pivoting means. A lever tube is rigidly connected to the second end of the linkage and is adapted to hold an operating lever. The operating lever is in a substantially vertical orientation at times when the center plate is in the stored and bridging positions.

  • Patent number: 5215403
Abstract: A three-wheeled machine carries a hopper positioned to receive paving material from a dump truck immediately in front of the machine, the hopper being emptied by a conveyor oriented transversely to the path of the machine. A left front wheel, a left rear wheel and a right side wheel support the machine and are so connected to the machine and to actuating mechanisms as to lift or lower the left and right sides of the machine in a selective manner, and thereby enable the machine to be elevated or lowered in level fashion, or to be inclined either toward the left or toward the right. The left rear wheel and the right wheel are independently driven and thus afford "skid steer" capability.

  • Patent number: 5212846
Abstract: A vehicle restraint is provided for securing a parked vehicle against a loading dock while the vehicle is being loaded or unloaded. The restraint includes a housing for below-ground installation and in which a ram is stored. The ram is mounted in the housing for vertical movement through an opening in the top of the housing, allowing the ram to move between a stored position and a raised position. Doors are provided for closing the opening in the top of the housing when the ram is in the stored position. A hydraulic cylinder is provided for moving the ram. A hook assembly is attached to the top of the ram for releasably retaining the vehicle. The hook assembly includes a hook in a stepped configuration to enable engagement of ICC bars having various heights and positioned various distances away from the loading dock wall. A sensor is provided for detecting when the hook engages the ICC bar of the vehicle and to stop the vertical movement of the ram when such engagement has been made.
