  • Patent number: 7145615
Abstract: Disclosed are LCD devices with improved display quality and front luminance and a method of manufacturing these LCD devices. Signal lines for transmitting the driving signals and TFTs are formed on the transparent substrate, and a dielectric layer is deposited on the transparent substrate. A leakage current prevention pattern is formed on a first region of the dielectric layer that overlies signal lines and the TFTs. A luminance-increasing pattern is formed on a second region of the dielectric layer that is separate from the first region. The thickness of the dielectric layer is higher at the leakage current prevention pattern than the luminance-increasing pattern, on the average. The leakage current prevention pattern has protrusions (e.g., convex portions or polygonal cones) of different dimensions. Accordingly, the leakage current can be prevented and the luminance of the LCD device can be improved.

  • Patent number: 7142279
Abstract: In a method of manufacturing a liquid crystal display using a divisional exposure for a substrate, an overlapping area at the boundary between adjacent shots is provided and the shots left and right to the boundary are exposed in a way that the areas of the shots gradually decreases and gradually increases, respectively, to reduce the brightness difference due to stitch errors between the two shots. For example, the number of unit stitch areas assigned to the left gradually decreases and the number of unit stitch areas assigned to the right shot gradually increases as it goes to the right along the transverse direction in the stitch area. A unit stitch includes an area obtained by dividing a pixel into at least two parts.

  • Patent number: 7142270
Abstract: To realize at low cost a liquid crystal display device which is thin and in which display on a single liquid crystal panel can be viewed in both ways, from the front and from the back. The liquid crystal display device includes a liquid crystal panel in which a liquid crystal layer is interposed between opposing substrates, and a polarizer and a reflection-polarizing plate provided so as to interpose the liquid crystal panel therebetween. The reflection axis of the reflection-polarizing plate is set in the same direction as a polarization direction of light that exits the liquid crystal panel after its polarization direction is changed in the liquid crystal layer, or a polarization direction of light that exits the liquid crystal panel without being changed in polarization direction in the liquid crystal layer. Due to this arrangement, a liquid crystal display device can be provided which is thin and capable of displaying on both the front side and the back side.

  • Patent number: 7136139
Abstract: In a method of filling a liquid crystal display panel with liquid crystal and a liquid crystal filling system using the method, a seal line and spacers are formed on a color filter substrate. A first volume defined by the seal line and a second volumes defined by the spacers are obtained. An amount of liquid crystal to be supplied into a region enclosed by the seal line is precisely calculated based on the first and second volumes. Shortage of the liquid crystal supplied into the LCD panel and overflow of the liquid crystal can be avoided. Accordingly, the steps for supplying the liquid crystal into the LCD panel may be reduced, and simultaneously peripheral regions of the LCD panel be prevented from being contaminated by the liquid crystal while the liquid crystal is filled into the LCD panel.
