  • Patent number: 7761308
Abstract: A medical consultation support system which transfers a structured request for consultation from a primary care physician's client computer to a supervisory host computer. The structured request together with any additional information related to the request, form a machine-readable collection of information. At the supervisory computer, the request is reviewed by a receiving staff physician who designates a specialist and retrieves supporting documentation related to the consultation request from databases of medical information. The supervisory computer then transmits the request for consultation and at least an identification of the selected supporting documentation to the selected specialist for review, and thereafter receives a comment from the selected specialist. The supervisory computer further stores the request for consultation and the comment as a structured case history item in the database of medical information.

  • Patent number: 7720699
Abstract: Systems and methods for use in settling mass tort claims are disclosed for determining insurance premiums for asymptomatic claimants in order to provide an insured defined monetary benefit in the event of a future emergence of critical injuries associated with exposure to injurious substances or conditions. Asymptomatic claimant risk classification data are entered for each settling claimant. Mortality and critical injury tables are determined. Durational probabilities of surviving without emergence of a covered critical injury are determined from a present date for each future insurance coverage year during the remaining life of the settling claimant. The durational probabilities are multiplied by the critical injury rates and then multiplied by the amounts of the specified monetary benefits. The premiums are then determined for a single claimant and on an aggregate basis for all claimants in any particular batch of mass tort claims settlements.

  • Patent number: 7617116
Abstract: A medical practice management system can be used to manage a medical practice. A medical practice management server communicates with a medical practice client user interface over a first network and communicates with a payor server over a second network. The medical practice management server receives information associated with a visit by a patient to the medical practice. Prior to using the information to create a claim, the medical practice management server automatically and repeatedly interacts with the information to ensure correct information by either applying one or more rules to the information or by performing one or more transactions with the payor server. The medical practice management server performs a correcting action in response to finding an error in the information and subsequently uses the information to create an insurance claim.

  • Patent number: 7490046
Abstract: A method and a system for matching medical condition information with medical resources are provided. Specifically, a plurality of medical resources such as, for example, practitioners, specialists, specialty hospitals, or any other medical or extended care providers may have information related thereto stored within a database on a computer network. The information may include information on specific medical conditions, such as, for example, diseases, disorders, or any other medical condition. Alternatively, the medical resource may include information on specific medical procedures in which the medical resource may have a specialty or may otherwise perform. An individual may access a website connected with the database and may enter information on medical conditions and/or medical procedures. A search of the database may then reveal specific medical resource categories and, thence, medical resources that may treat the medical condition or may perform the medical procedures chosen by the individual.

  • Patent number: 7398219
Abstract: An improved method and system to display messages, while processing insurance claims, using a messages table. The messages associated with the processing of insurance claims are primarily used to obtain inputs from the user of the claims processing computer system. Messages, which are typically displayed on a display screen, may include questions, answers, errors, warnings, and other text used with interactive claims processing. The messages are stored as message codes along with a corresponding message text in a messages table. The database, which includes the messages table is the repository and the lookup system for the message codes and the corresponding message texts. Each message code has a corresponding customizable message text, which may be specified at installation time. The application program requests display of specific messages by referring to its message code. The application program, thus, remains unaffected to changes in the corresponding customizable message texts.
