  • Patent number: 7369211
Abstract: A method and apparatus for forming a sealing member includes forming a first sealing part to surround one portion of a display area, the display area including a pixel, and forming a second sealing part to surround a remaining portion of the display area and to intersect ends defining the second sealing part with corresponding ends defining the first sealing part. Thus, a time needed to form the first and second sealing member may be reduced, thereby reducing an entire process time to manufacture the display apparatus. Further, an area needed to form the sealing member may be reduced, thereby enhancing productivity of the display apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7333158
Abstract: A three-dimensional (3D) display system includes a liquid crystal display and a directional backlight module. The backlight module disposed behind the liquid crystal display includes a light-guide plate, a focusing layer, a left backlight source, a right backlight source, and a first V-shaped micro-grooved and a second V-shaped micro-grooved structures of the light-guide plate. The focusing layer is disposed between the light-guide plate and the liquid crystal display. The 3D display method is to instantly switch on and off the left and the right backlight sources to alternately emit the light from the left side and right side of light-guide plate. By means of the first and the second V-shaped micro-grooved structure, the light transmitted from the light-guide plate is focused by the focusing layer within a particular range of angles and passing through the liquid crystal layer for being alternately projected to form a 3D image.

  • Patent number: 7221420
Abstract: A system for creating a patterned polarization compensator (550) has a retardance characterization system (560) for optically scanning the spatially variant retardance of a spatial light modulator (210). A compensator patterning system (565) writes a spatially variant photo-alignment pattern on a substrate (555) of a polarization compensator. The patterned polarization compensator is completed by a process that includes providing a photo-alignment layer onto which spatially variant photo-alignment layer is formed, providing a liquid crystal polymer layer onto the photo-alignment layer, and then fixing the liquid crystal polymer layer to form a spatially variant retardance pattern into the structure of the patterned polarization compensator.

  • Patent number: 7218368
Abstract: An orientation processor (i.e., rubbing roller) for manufacturing a high quality liquid crystal display apparatus by subjecting orientation films formed on glass substrates of a relatively large-size liquid crystal display apparatus to a uniform orientation process. An orientation processor (i.e., rubbing roller) 10 is formed by applying a plurality of rubbing cloth pieces 12A and 12B applied with double-side bond tape to the outer periphery of the rotational roller 11. Another orientation processor (i.e., rubbing roller) 20 is formed by at least one parallel quadrilateral rubbing cloth piece 22B and 22C and substantially triangular rubbing cloth pieces 22A and 22D disposed on the opposite sides of the cloth pieces 22B and 22C. The orientation processor 10 or 20 is used to execute an orientation process of rubbing orientation films formed on the surface of glass substrates (panels) and a liquid crystal display apparatus.

  • Patent number: 7145621
Abstract: Disclosed is a fringe field switching liquid crystal display, which prevents disclination lines from being created at a wedge section and improves liquid crystal polarization efficiency of a pixel electrode. The fringe field switching liquid crystal display comprises upper and lower substrates arranged while forming a space between them, a conductive black matrix formed on a lower surface of the upper substrate, a common electrode formed on an upper surface of the lower substrate, a gate insulation layer formed on an upper surface of the common electrode, and a pixel electrode formed on an upper surface of the gate insulation layer. Herein, the pixel electrode forms an electric field and includes a fringe portion having a saw-tooth shape, which forms one of 1-domain and 2-domain among the pixel electrode, the conductive black matrix, and the common electrode.
