Abstract: A relational database load operation is disclosed for loading data into a multi-table tablespace, such as a segmented tablespace in a DB2® environment. In one aspect, the load operation allows one or more tables to be replaced in a single pass of the tablespace without modifying, loading or replacing other tables in the tablespace. Thus, the disclosed operation can replace one or more tables in a single pass of the tablespace without the need to unload and reload tables not targeted for replacement. In another aspect, the load operation allows for a combined operation where one or more tables are replaced and one or more tables are resumed in a single pass of the multi-table tablespace without modifying other tables already residing in the tablespace.

  • Patent number: 8819049
Abstract: A parsing module identifies a framed page within a web page received from a network. The parsing module further identifies information regarding the frame such as the framed page's uniform resource locator. A lookup module accesses a memory module to determine if the identified information regarding the frame is included in a protection list stored in the memory module. A notification module notifies a client's user that the framing web page is fraudulent if the identified information regarding the frame is included in the protection list. Alternatively, the parsing module is adapted to identify a security tag within the framed page indicating that the framed page is not permitted to be displayed within a frame. If the framed page includes a security tag, the notification module notifies the client's user that the framing web page is fraudulent.

  • Patent number: 8812452
Abstract: In an information management system, multiple models are utilized to characterize stored information. A query directed to the stored information is received, and at least one contextual indicator is extracted, inferred or otherwise determined from the received query. The contextual indicator determined from the received query is applied to a meta-model that includes linkages between attributes of respective ones of the multiple models, where each of the linkages comprises one or more associated contextual properties, in order to generate a transformed meta-model specifying an authoritative policy result for processing the query responsive to the contextual indicator. The query is then processed in accordance with the authoritative policy result specified in the transformed meta-model.

  • Patent number: 8694957
Abstract: An invention is provided for generating an XML test result file. A key parameter and a value parameter are received, wherein the key parameter relates to a tag. A first string is then generated based on the key parameter and the value parameter. Included in the first string is a first beginning tag and a first ending tag, each based on the key parameter. In addition, the first string includes the value parameter positioned between the first beginning tag and the first ending tag. The first string is then inserted into a test results file that stores a second string that has a second beginning tag and a second ending tag. In particular, the first string is inserted between the second beginning tag and a second ending tag. By continuing in this manner, an XML test results file can be generated using the embodiments of the present invention.

  • Patent number: 8645337
Abstract: A database server stores compressed units in data blocks of a database. A table (or data from a plurality of rows thereof) is first compressed into a “compression unit” using any of a wide variety of compression techniques. The compression unit is then stored in one or more data block rows across one or more data blocks. As a result, a single data block row may comprise compressed data for a plurality of table rows, as encoded within the compression unit. Storage of compression units in data blocks maintains compatibility with existing data block-based databases, thus allowing the use of compression units in preexisting databases without modification to the underlying format of the database. The compression units may, for example, co-exist with uncompressed tables. Various techniques allow a database server to optimize access to data in the compression unit, so that the compression is virtually transparent to the user.

  • Patent number: 8595184
Abstract: Metadata may be stored in, and retrieved from, a scalable, fault-tolerant metadata service. In one example, metadata is divided into partitions, and each partition is served by one or more nodes. For each partition, a first one of the nodes may handle read and write requests, and the other nodes may handle read requests in the event that the first node is down or is experiencing high load. When a request is made with respect to metadata, a metadata server may identify a node, in the partition to which the metadata is assigned, to which the request is to be made. The entity that is making the request then contacts that node, and requests the read or write on the metadata. In a partition, metadata may be replicated between the first node and the other nodes using a log-based replication protocol.

  • Patent number: 8548961
Abstract: Embodiments are directed towards a dynamic change evaluation mechanism, whereby items having a detected possible change are scheduled for re-evaluation for possible changes at a higher frequency than items detected to not have previously changed, while those items detected as not to have changed are dynamically scheduled for re-evaluation based on an evaluation backlog that may be in turn based, in part, on a time from when an item is assigned an expiration time to when the item is evaluated. In one embodiment, a possibly changed item may be assigned a new expiration time independent of the evaluation backlog. In another embodiment, if no change is detected, then the item may be assigned a new expiration time as a function of a previous expiration time and on the evaluation backlog.

  • Patent number: 8538911
Abstract: An event analysis system monitors information available from both publicly and privately distributed networks of information for events that are relevant to the user's particular business concerns. Those concerns are defined in a customized model of the user's organization and external business environment. The system receives the information, detects events in the information, interprets the events, and determines implications of these events. The detection and implication proceeds with regard to specific entities, relationships between entities, and definitions of the types of events which may occur in the environment in which the entities exist. Accordingly, the analysis system intelligently adapts its processing to recognize and report events which may be of interest for any particular entity.

  • Patent number: 8452757
Abstract: A technique for finding the nearest match in a computer storage system is provided. A query statement includes a new operator that indicates that a user desires to access a set of rows that contain a value nearest to a target value. An index is accessed that is based at least in part on a column reference included in the statement. The index comprises a plurality of leaf nodes, where each leaf node comprises one or more entries, where each entry contains a key value, corresponding to the column reference, and a reference to a row in a table. Because leaf nodes in an index are ordered and linked to one another, a portion of the index need only be scanned once. The set of rows from the table are returned that are referenced by one or more entries whose column values are nearest to the target value.
