  • Patent number: 4779206
Abstract: A curing press for tires is operated with a minimum curing time which will provide the near-optimum number of cure equivalents at the point of least cure without locating it. An average temperature for a particular period during the year is "set" in a programmable controller ("PC") based on minimum and maximum temperature measurements made in the curing room during the day and night over a preselected period of time. The actual ambient temperature is measured at the press, which temperature is essentially that of the green tire just before it is loaded in the prss. The PC controls operation of the press, and is used to provide a near-optimum but variable curing period, depending upon the difference between the "set" temperature and the actual (green tire) temperature, and whether it is greater than, or less than the "set" temperature, to provide a near-perfect cure without tracking the point of least cure.

  • Patent number: 4777006
Abstract: During blow molding of curved plastic hollow bodies, the parison is first extruded as a whole in a substantially straight line and vertically from top to bottom. The parison is then severed from the extrusion die and the severed parison precurved. Finally, the precurved parison is inserted as a whole into the blow mold and blown. An apparatus for carrying out this method comprises releasable support means for accommodating and holding the parison, curving means for preliminary curving of the parison, tilting means for tilting the support means into the horizontal position and a blow mold, the precurved parison being placed as a whole in one mold half of this blow mold.

  • Patent number: 4759100
Abstract: An end closure for a shirred casing stick is formed from casing inturned into the bore of the stick. A vacuum assist is used to prepleat the casing within the bore prior to compaction. The resulting end closure is a generally cylindrical plug composed of accordion-type pleats and having an end portion which has a substantially uniform density about the longitudinal axis of the plug and a second portion which has an asymmetrical density. The second portion has two longitudinally extending sections; one having its pleats formed of a single ply of casing and a diametrically opposite section having its pleats formed of three plies of casing, thereby providing the asymmetric density.

  • Patent number: 4758401
Abstract: A method and apparatus for vulcanizing pneumatic vehicle tires where the tire beads, in the mounted state, are disposed on the radially inner periphery of a rim next to the essentially radially inwardly extending rim flanges. In order to obtain tires having a long service life and tire beads with a good sealing quality, it is proposed that the tire be vulcanized in essentially the proper contour for operation. Two, respectively radially segmented, bead-forming rings that have a variable diameter and can be displaced axially are provided. For the purpose of vulcanizing the sealing surfaces disposed in the interior of the tire so that these surfaces will rest on the rim in an airtight manner, the bead-forming rings are introduced, in a radially retracted state, into the interior of the tire blank, whereby at least one of the tire beads is ovally deformed.

  • Patent number: 4738813
Abstract: An apparatus and process for molding the edges of a board-shaped blank with plastic material. A one-piece mold is provided made of a material with rubber-like elasticity and having a C-shaped cross section. Two free legs of the mold receive between themselves the edges of the blank and rest against the blank from the top and bottom. The mold is surrounded by a divided mold box, having upper and lower parts supporting the mold on all sides and being compressible perpendicularly to the plane of the blank. Upon compression, free legs of the mold are forced against the blank. In the mold box, spacing elements are arranged on top of and beneath the blank to limit the distance of movement of the parts of the mold box and the compression of the mold.

  • Patent number: 4724191
Abstract: Hydronium bonded polycrystalline shaped articles may be produced by the simple expedient of selecting a hydronium containing powder prepared by one of a plurality of prior art methods and then intermingling the hydronium powder with ortho-phosphoric acid to obtain a viscous mixture (resembling the consistency of toothpaste). The mixture is then formed into a predetermined shape, for example a disc or tube, and the shaped polycrystalline ceramic is allowed to cure. Curing may take place at an elevated temperature below 100.degree. C. for approximately 3 hours either as a step subsequent to forming, or as part of the forming step in 30 minutes at 120.degree. C. The result is bonded hydrogen conducting - hydronium, H.sub.3 O+, solid rigid structure with a smooth finish copying the mold from which it was shaped.

  • Patent number: 4721590
Abstract: A curing press for tires, commonly manifolded to other curing presses in a curing room, are operated with a minimum blowdown time which is variable from one cycle of each press to another cycle. A first signal is generated by a pressure transducer ("PT") in pressure communication with the bladder(s) of each curing press; this first signal is compared to a second signal corresponding to a target pressure, which second signal is stored in a programmable controller ("PC"). The PC controls operation of the press, and is used to provide a variable blowdown period; how quickly this target in the PC is reached, is a function of the pressure in a common blowdown manifold for plural presses.
