  • Patent number: 9918307
Abstract: UTRAN MAC-d multiplexing of data from multiple logical channels to a single MAC-d flow is supported while reducing overhead and achieving octet alignment in MAC-d PDU length. In one embodiment, the C/T field of a multiplexed MAC-d PDU is eliminated, and the logical channels multiplexed into the MAC-d flow are mapped to a MAC-hs PQ in at least the NodeB (and preferably in the UE as well). In other embodiments, the C/T field is retained, and an octet-aligned length indicator is transmitted from the RNC to the UE. In one embodiment, the length indicator is octet-aligned by padding the MAC-d PDUs. In another embodiment, transmitters and receivers in the path from RNC to UE are configured with an offset to add to the length indicator to achieve octet alignment. The padding or offset is (8?n) bits, where n=the number of bits in C/T field.

  • Patent number: 9900927
Abstract: A system and method is disclosed for individually controlling User Equipment (UE) connections, dynamically and automatically, based on the applications and/or services that the connections carry. An eNodeB or other radio base station (RBS) monitors established connections between the UE and the RBS to detect applications running within those connections. Based on the stateful information of applications, the present invention proactively controls the state transitions of individual UEs between the CONNECTED and IDLE states thereby increasing radio link capacity and reducing control plane loading.

  • Patent number: 9894650
Abstract: A wireless telecommunications network supplies a semi-persistent resource that a wireless station can use for special purposes (such as a retransmission of packets for ARQ purposes or a control signal. The semi-persistent resource can be allocated by the system to other terminals if, e.g., a retransmission is not required. Since a retransmission is generally performed in response to a NACK received from a base station, the NACK may itself serve as a token that permits the wireless station to use the semi-persistent allocation. Thus, the technology includes, e.g., a method for resource allocation on a semi-persistent basis and efficient signaling for the usage of such allocation.

  • Patent number: 9894004
Abstract: A switch device includes a retaining unit, a switching processing unit, an identifying unit, and a rewriting unit. The retaining unit retains a flow table that maps each flow to a flag indicating whether the amount of transmitted data is equal to or more than a predetermined threshold. The switching processing unit stores a data packet received by a receiving buffer in one of a plurality of output queues provided for respective transmission ports based on the destination. The identifying unit identifies data packets included in a flow in which the amount of data is equal to or more than a predetermined threshold, from the data packets received by the receiving buffer. The rewriting unit refers to congestion notification information included in each of the identified data packets, and rewrites information indicating congestion to information indicating no congestion when the congestion notification information includes the information indicating congestion.

  • Patent number: 9883418
Abstract: This disclosure relates to determining load and estimating throughput of wireless networks by a wireless device. According to some embodiments, the numbers of active downlink and uplink nodes in a wireless network may be determined. Channel utilization of the wireless network may also be determined. An uplink data rate and a downlink data rate of the wireless device in the wireless network may be estimated. Based on the numbers of active downlink and uplink nodes, channel utilization, and the uplink data rate and a downlink data rate of the wireless device, the maximum possible uplink throughput and downlink throughput of the wireless device in the wireless network may be estimated. Such throughput estimates may be used to select a wireless network to join from among multiple available wireless networks.

  • Patent number: 9867166
Abstract: Provided is a method of generating a pilot pattern capable of perform adaptive channel estimation, and a method and apparatus of a base station and a method and apparatus of a terminal using the pilot pattern. The pilot pattern selects pilot symbol positions based on distances from pilots of previous orthogonal frequency division multiple access (OFDMA) symbols to a subcarrier position of a current OFDMA symbol in the frequency domain and the time domain, so that a low pilot density is maintained so as to effectively transmit data, and stable channel estimation performance can be obtained even in a bad channel environment. In addition, the minimum burst allocation size is determined according to the channel environment between the base station and the terminal, guaranteeing channel estimation performance suitable for the channel environment, and improving granularity, channel estimation latency, and channel estimation memory size.

  • Patent number: 9866301
Abstract: In certain embodiments, a macrocell base station (BS), such as an LSAS BS, estimates its backhaul channels with a small-cell BS (e.g., a relay or repeater) by averaging multiple instances of a received pilot signal repeatedly transmitted by the small-cell BS. Since the macrocell and small-cell BSs are stationary, averaging the received pilot signal transmissions over time results in the zero-temporal-mean time-dependent component of each backhaul channel as well as zero-temporal-mean noise and interference signals from other wireless nodes to substantially cancel out, enabling the macrocell BS to relatively infrequently estimate a relatively time-invariant, dominant component for each backhaul channel. The macrocell BS uses the estimated dominant components to generate user-data-based downlink transmissions to the small-cell BS. In this way, the processing to estimate channel state information (CSI) data for the backhaul channels is greatly reduced compared to conventional techniques.
