Patent number: 8467377Abstract: A first mobile device has two air interfaces. The first mobile device uses its first interface to transmit VoIP/VIP packets to a second device in a first session. If a quality of service decreases, then the first device causes a second session to be set up where the second session uses the second air interface. Both the first and second air interfaces are then used to communicate packets of a single media stream from the first device to the second device. The packets are transmitted in the first and second sessions in interleaved fashion, where the ratio of packets communicated in one session versus the other per unit time is adjusted in accordance with a quality of service afforded by one session versus a quality of service afforded by the other session. The second device orders the data payloads of the packets, thereby reconstructing the single media stream.Type: GrantFiled: August 24, 2005Date of Patent: June 18, 2013Assignee: QUALCOMM IncorporatedInventor: Sudeep Ravi Kottilingal

Patent number: 8417762Abstract: A cooperative data stream processing system utilizing a plurality of independent, autonomous and heterogeneous sites in a cooperative arrangement process user-defined job requests over dynamic, continuous streams of data. A distributed plan is created that identifies the processing elements that constitute a job that is derived from user-defined inquiries. These processing elements are arranged into subjobs that are mapped to various sites within the system for execution. The jobs are executed across the plurality of distributed sites in accordance with the distributed plan. The distributed plan also includes requirements for monitoring and back-up of the execution sites in the event of a failure on one of those sites. Execution of the jobs in accordance with the distributed plan is facilitated by the identification of an owner site to which the distributed plan is communicated and which is responsible for driving the execution of the distributed plan.Type: GrantFiled: May 11, 2007Date of Patent: April 9, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael J. Patent number: 8359347Abstract: A cooperative data stream processing system is provided that utilizes a plurality of independent, autonomous and possibly heterogeneous sites in a cooperative arrangement to process user-defined job requests over dynamic, continuous streams of data. The sites negotiate peering relationships to share data and processing resources to handle the submitted job requests. These peering relationships can be cooperative or federated and can be expressed using common interest policies. Each site within the system runs an instance of a system architecture for processing job requests and is therefore a self-contained, fully functional instance of the cooperative data stream processing system.Type: GrantFiled: April 10, 2007Date of Patent: January 22, 2013Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Michael John Branson, Frederick Douglis, Bradley William Fawcett, Zhen Liu, William Waller, Fan Ye

Patent number: 8346947Abstract: A cable modem integrated session border controller operates as a point of demarcation between a local area network (LAN) and a DOCSIS network and, in response to receiving a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) message, which includes Session Description Protocol (SDP), from a VoIP device coupled to the LAN, communicates with a Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) to take advantage of DOCSIS Dynamic Quality of Service (DQoS). If required service flow attributes, as determined from the SDP of the SIP message, matches service flow attributes of an existing UGS service flow with a CMTS, a DOCSIS Dynamic Service Change (DSC) request is used to add an additional sub flow to the existing UGS service flow. If attributes fail to match attributes of all existing UGS service flows, a DOCSIS Dynamic Service Change (DSC) request is used to initiate an additional UGS service flow with the required service flow attributes.Type: GrantFiled: January 21, 2011Date of Patent: January 1, 2013Assignee: Innomedia Pte. Patent number: 8300629Abstract: Systems and methods for providing interaction management to network devices in a communication network are described. A gateway may be used to implement the interaction capabilities on packet flows for IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) and multimedia domain (MMD) architectures. Interaction managers and proxy agents can be provided by the gateway, such as a service control interaction manager (SCIM). The SCIM can be a layer and manage interactions between network devices such as mobile nodes and application servers and can provide abstraction of network devices. This can allow the gateway to provide interworking between network devices and handle mobile nodes with different capabilities.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 2007Date of Patent: October 30, 2012Assignee: Cisco Technology, Inc.Inventors: Kaitki Agarwal, Rajat Ghai

Patent number: 8275917Abstract: A mechanism is provided for efficient communication of producer/consumer buffer status. With the mechanism, devices in a data processing system notify each other of updates to head and tail pointers of a shared buffer region when the devices perform operations on the shared buffer region using signal notification channels of the devices. Thus, when a producer device that produces data to the shared buffer region writes data to the shared buffer region, an update to the head pointer is written to a signal notification channel of a consumer device. When a consumer device reads data from the shared buffer region, the consumer device writes a tail pointer update to a signal notification channel of the producer device. In addition, channels may operate in a blocking mode so that the corresponding device is kept in a low power state until an update is received over the channel.Type: GrantFiled: May 27, 2008Date of Patent: September 25, 2012Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Daniel A.
