Abstract: A load indication system monitors not only the total frictional load on the mold oscillator in a continuous casting apparatus, but also monitors the difference in the oscillator load at various locations around the mold to detect mold wobble and load imbalance. In addition, both the total frictional load and the mold wobble are monitored by detecting their peak-to-peak values.
Abstract: An improved take-off device for a horizontal continuous-casting installation is provided. The arrangement comprises a frame and a mounting seated on rollers in the frame. The mounting is rotatable relative to the frame and supports the drive roll and its drive shaft, and a counter-pressure roll, which rolls preferably have counter-profiles corresponding to the cross section of the casting. The mounting comprises two concentrically arranged tubes which are sealed at their ends, thereby defining a cooling area therein. The adverse effects of gravity on casting quality may be mitigated by rotating the mounting relative to the frame, and locking it as a desired relative position, depending upon the cross-sectional configuration of the casting.

Abstract: To produce tubes of reactive metals, a melt (14) is removed from the annu gap (13) of a crucible (10). The temperature of the melt (14) is such as to ensure the formation of the solidus-liquidus zone (33) directly behind the annular gap (13), a planar solidification front (34) being created in a non supported region which is not exposed to the direct influence of a cooling means. In the subsequent region, the oriented solidification of the tube with high temperature gradients is realized, and the tube can be shaped or adjusted free of thermal influences. Only thereafter, the tube (25) is exposed to the action of cooling means (26, 31) to cool it without contact. In such a way, it is possible to produce tubes having a high stability and resistance to temperatures for use in turbines, heat exchangers or the like.

Abstract: Disclosed is a gas hardening type molding machine wherein a vertical type molding box is disposed under a molding sand hopper having an upper part opened and a bottom part provided with a sand discharge port, and a mold cavity in the vertical split type molding box is communicated with both a vacuum device and a hardening gas generator through stop valves, thereby to conduct both the filling of molding sand and the permeation of a hardening gas by utilizing the suction operation of the vacuum device.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process for the electromagnetic casting of metals. The process is characterized by simultaneously using a stationary field and a variable field at a suitable frequency for producing both radial vibrations within the metal which is not yet in a solidified condition and limiting agitation of the metal. The invention can be used in any circumstance where both the structure and the surface condition of the cast products are to be improved.
Abstract: A shrouding sleeve for removable insertion between a tundish and an underlying mold to vertically enshroud a liquid stream issuing from the tundish to the mold wherein the shrouding sleeve consists of upper and lower substantially rigid sleeve portions. The upper sleeve is removably secured to the underside of the tundish and the lower sleeve is removably insertable for vertical alignment between the upper sleeve and the underlying mold. An annular flange is annularly secured to the bottom of the upper sleeve, and in a similar manner, annular flanges are also secured to the top and bottom of the lower sleeve. Another annular flange is also secured to the top of the underlying mold. At least one of these annular flanges is under continuous bias in the vertical direction so that when the lower shrouding sleeve is transversely inserted into vertical alignment between the upper sleeve and the mold, all of the annular flanges engage adjacent mating flanges to form a continuous shrouding sleeve under seal.
Abstract: A fishing lure includes a hook part and a body part, the body part being made of a vinyl plastisol having incorporated throughout the plastisol a sufficient quantity of salt (sodium chloride) to give the lure a salty taste.
Abstract: A method and apparatus for soldering by means of an industrial robot is disclosed. The apparatus includes a soldering head end effector having retractable continuity sensing probes. The soldering head is particularly adapted to solder metal connector braids onto fused silver ceramic frit bus bars which are associated with the heating elements of defogging automobile back lights. The method includes positioning the work piece sensing the alignment of the bus bar and braid, controlling the robot to its starting position, controlling the robot soldering heat to subsequent preprogrammed soldering positions, holding the connector braid onto the bus bar and soldering the work piece.
Abstract: An apparatus for the production of die-cast parts is described, wherein the melt is pressured under a low pressure into a die where it solidifies. A casting unit has a drive piston guided in a casting cylinder and connected to a casting piston. The casting piston is equipped with terminal stops in both directions. The casting piston, which has a large cross-section, is able to travel into a movable half of the die. The casting cylinder is displaceably supported on a guide in the direction of the axis of the drive piston, with the terminal stops being adjustable relative to the drive piston and relative to each other. A signal transducer is associated with the stroke path of the drive piston and detects the end position of the casting piston within the moving half of the die.

Abstract: Printed circuit boards bearing chip type electric parts on its underside surface and travelling along a predetermined path are soldered by contact with a progressive wave of a molten solder progressing in a direction transverse to the path of travel of the printed circuit board. A nozzle member provided with an array of molten solder overflowing ports arranged in a direction transverse to the travelling path is moveable in the same direction so as to form the progressive wave of molten solder.
Abstract: A device for attaching an auxiliary fishing line to a primary fishing line, for use while trolling, with the primary fishing line connected to the ball of a downrigger assembly. The auxiliary line is slidably mounted on the primary line and the device is used to hold the auxiliary line on the primary line at a selected position. The auxiliary line remains separate from the primary line while trolling, enabling fishermen to fish with separate lines from a single rod while avoiding entanglement of the lines. When a fish strikes either line, the device slides to the end of the primary line, allowing both lines and the fish to be reeled completely in.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a relatively transparent, flexible hollow tube (12) having a plurality of elongated strands of tippet material (14), having a variety of diameters, positioned therein. Each of said strands of tippet material (14) being color coded to provide for ready identification of tippet material diameter. A cylindrical plug (16) is inserted at a first end of the tube (12) to retain the tippet material (14) in the tube (12). A plastic cord (20) and snap (22) are provided for attaching the tippet tube (12) to an item of one's wearing apparel while fishing.
Abstract: A lifting platform is hinged via oscillating cranks forming a four rod linkage mechanism to a spacially fixed support frame at a continuous casting apparatus with a mold having a curved metal bar axis and disposed at the oscillating lifting platform and the lifting platform forms the connecting rod of this four rod linkage mechanism. In order to avoid the generation of cracks in the metal bar at the transition from the oscillating guide track for the metal bar to the spacially fixed guiding of the bar and in order to be able to adapt the oscillating cranks to close quarters, the longitudinal axes of the oscillating cranks intersect at a point while the mold is in middle position, which point is disposed on a straight line connecting the center of curvature of the guide track of the metal bar to the lower end of the oscillating support surface supporting the metal bar. The oscillating cranks are of differing lengths.
Abstract: Apparatus for agitating a fishing line and imparting to the lure an oscillating motion. The apparatus is mounted on the fishing pole and also releasibly engaged with the fishing line. In order to provide the motion a small electric motor causes a shaft to rotate. The shaft has helical threads and causes a rider slideably meshed with the threads to move forward and backward. The fishing line by reason of its attachment to the rider is agitated into an oscillatory motion which is transmitted to the lure.
