  • Patent number: 9107509
Abstract: A folding mattress support system replaces a conventional bed frame with rails and the box spring. The mattress support system is lighter, easier to transport, and provides more storage space beneath the mattress. The mattress support system includes bed frame assemblies, central connecting bars, edge attachments, headboard attachments and a bed skirt. Leg supports fold out from the bed frame assemblies, which themselves unfold in the middle. Central connecting bars connect inner side edges of the bed frame assemblies. Plastic edge attachments are attached at outer corners of the bed frame assemblies and hold a bed skirt taut when the frame assemblies are standing on extended leg supports. A mattress is then placed on top of the assembled mattress support system. Optionally, metal edge attachments at the head corners hold both the bed skirt and a headboard. Alternatively, headboard attachments protrude from under the bed skirt and support a headboard.

  • Patent number: 9101233
Abstract: A sleeping bag constructed such that its outer circumference is greater than its inner circumference includes additional integrated protuberances, or space fillers, that are added to the interior lining of the sleeping bag to fill-in around the sleeper's body. Making the circumference of the outside of the bag greater than the inside maintains the thickness of the insulation in selected areas. To maintain insulation thickness at other locations around the sleeper's body, the insulation-containing space fillers are incorporated into the interior of the bag and expand under the influence of the insulation to fill-in around the sleeper for reducing the internal volume of the bag. This construction can be carried the length of the sleeping bag.

  • Patent number: 9101516
Abstract: A steerable ultra-low patient bed incorporates means for maintaining verticality of the caster stem at all height positions of the bed, and means for selectively locking the caster assemblies of the bed in a desired locking position. The means for selectively locking the caster assemblies may be actuated from either end of the bed using a central actuation mechanism. The bed preferably has legs that are pivotally and translatably attached at their upper end to the bed frame, and caster support members that are longitudinally aligned with the bed pivotally attached to the lower end of each leg. Each caster support member has a single caster assembly attached thereto. The means for maintaining verticality of the caster stem incorporates a constraint means that urges the caster support member in a direction of rotation opposite that of the leg during adjustment of the height of the bed.

  • Patent number: 9095481
Abstract: A pad, in particular for use in the nursing care and hospital sector, has an elastic spacer textile, which is surrounded by an elastic foam body, a separating layer being arranged between the foam body and the spacer textile. The pad can be produced with any desired outer contour by foaming the foam body onto the spacer textile, an uncontrolled penetration of the foam body into the spacer textile and an undesired increase in the compression hardness connected therewith being avoided by the separating layer. The pad is accordingly very comfortable to sit and/or lie on.

  • Patent number: 9084707
Abstract: A lift apparatus has a frame with open sides and a web assembly slidably retained along the sides which extends from one end of the frame to the other. While the web assembly is retracted, the frame moves to pass around a mobility-impaired individual and rest against the surface supporting the individual. The web assembly is then extended to move underneath or behind the individual, providing lifting support. The frame is configurable for orientations ranging continuously between horizontal and upright sitting. The web assembly has an upper web contacting the individual, a lower web contacting the support surface, a strength layer carrying the individual's weight, and a roller nose bar assembly which is pulled to extend the web assembly. A hand-held power tool can drive the web assembly, adjustment of inclinations of the back and leg sections of the frame, and vertical motion of the lift arm.

  • Patent number: 9078628
Abstract: To position an imaging subject (16) in an imaging or therapy system (10), the imaging subject (16) is arranged on a linearly translatable tabletop (26) disposed on a movable trolley (30). A position of a region of interest (24) of the imaging subject along the linearly translatable tabletop is selected using an elongated position selector (40, 40?, 40?) that is elongated in a translation direction (z) of the linearly translatable tabletop (26). After the selecting, the movable trolley is docked with the imaging or therapy system (10). After the docking, the tabletop is linearly translated to move the imaging subject to the imaging or therapy system, the amount of linear translating being based on the selected position of a region of interest along the linearly translatable tabletop.

  • Patent number: 9060907
Abstract: An apparatus has conforming arms each respectively attached to a support surface in a pattern for cooperatively receiving an object. Actuators respectively position the plurality of conforming arms between a disengaged state to receive the object and an engaged state to contact the object at a respective contact area to immobilize the object. A control system selectively controls each of the actuators to cause the respective one of the conforming arms to curve inwardly toward the object to cooperatively exert a grasping force upon the object such that only a fraction of total force required to immobilize the object is applied to the object by each individual conforming arm. A selected grasping force of a selected one of the conforming arms corresponds to a relative fragility of the respective contact area.
