  • Patent number: 5103946
Abstract: A hand operated automobile brake and accelerator operation assembly for the handicapped can be readily transferred from car to car without tools and is adaptable to various models of cars. It is installed by clamping onto the brake pedal shaft with manually operable wing nuts or the like as the sole fixed connecting bracket on the car. The brake pedal and accelerator pedal are respectively operated by pushing and pulling by hand an operating rod to move an operating lever fulcrumed on a pivot axis fixed relative to the brake pedal shaft. This operating lever moves an accelerator operating shaft into contact with the accelerator pedal to depress it as the hand operated rod is pulled. Conversely when pushed the hand operated rod depresses the brake pedal and release the accelerator. To accommodate different car models an accelerator operating shaft has a manually operated lock to fix its length, and the acclerator assembly distance from the brake is adjustable.

  • Patent number: 5101951
Abstract: The invention relates to a viscous coupling 1 in the case of which one of the two coupling parts, i.e. either the coupling hub 9 or the coupling housing 2, is produced of plastics. To permit non-rotating accommodation of the associated coupling plates 11 or 12, metallic round bars 18 are embedded in the plastic coupling part 2 or 9 so as to be circumferentially distributed. The inner circumference or the outer circumference of the associated coupling plates 11, 12 is provided with an adapted profile. This measure ensures that in spite of the high loads occurring in the course of the transmission of torque it is possible to use plastic parts.

  • Patent number: 5101945
Abstract: A clutch/brake system for a manual transmission motor vehicle, having an additional brake master cylinder attached to the conventional clutch master cylinder, and associated hydraulic lines and valves whereby depression of the clutch pedal first causes disengagement of the clutch, and then causes engagement of the brakes through engagement of the additional brake master cylinder. The system is particularly useful when starting a vehicle on an upward incline, to allow the operator to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when one foot must be on the clutch pedal while the other is on the accelerator pedal. The system is also useful in the event that a sudden stop is necessary while the operator is using the clutch pedal for frequent gear shifting, as in heavy traffic.
