  • Patent number: 9245427
Abstract: A system and method for synchronizing a plurality of networked fire alarm panels is disclosed. A plurality of fire panels (i.e., nodes) are arranged on a peer-to-peer network, such as a token ring network. One node is designated as a SyncHost, and the remaining nodes are periodically reset to the clock time associated with the SyncHost to ensure all nodes remain substantially synchronized to a single time. As such, when an alarm condition is signaled, the visual notification devices (i.e., strobe lights) of all the fire panels (nodes) will flash at substantially the same time, in accordance with government guidelines. To accomplish the synchronization, the SyncHost sends periodic attendance polls around the network, noting the transit times of the polls. The individual nodes on the network also note times associated with the polls.

  • Patent number: 9241367
Abstract: Systems and methods for Wi-Fi roaming. A gateway supports both a local access point (AP) and a virtual AP. The local AP is accessible only to an “owner” of the gateway. The virtual AP (VAP) is accessible to devices associated with the owner of the gateway and to roaming Wi-Fi devices. A datastore conveys information about the roaming Wi-Fi devices to the VAP to permit them to access the VAP without the need for manual configuration of the VAP. A roaming Wi-Fi device may communicate with a gateway via a tunnel to maintain session connectivity during roaming. A session may be initiated on one network, such as a Wi-Fi network or a cellular network, handed off to another network, such as a cellular network or a Wi-Fi network, and then returned to the network on which the session was initiated.

  • Patent number: 9197997
Abstract: Provided are a method for performing a position update in machine to machine (M2M) communication, and an apparatus using the method. In an idle mode, an M2M apparatus receives a paging message from a base station. The paging message comprises an action code, a network access type, and a resource offset. The action code is an indication for the M2M apparatus to perform a position update; the network access type is an indication for the allocation of resources for a ranging request; and the resource offset is an indication for an offset for uplink allocation. The M2M apparatus transmits the ranging request message to the base station by means of the uplink allocation.

  • Patent number: 9191893
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for operating a power save mode in a wireless LAN system. The method involves transmitting a power save multi-poll (PSMP) frame containing a power save mode (PSM) of a non-access point (AP) station (STA) to a first station and to a second station which are paired with an AP on the basis of multiple input multiple output (MIMO) technology. Information on the PSM contains downlink transmission start offset which indicates the point in time of starting a downlink transmission period, a downlink transmission duration which indicates the duration of the downlink transmission period, and transmission object station identification information. The method further involves transmitting a data frame to the first station and to the second station on the basis of the MIMO technology during the downlink transmission period.

  • Patent number: 9112839
Abstract: Efficient methods for wirelessly communicating file content under varying conditions are described. A wireless device determines, based on mobility and/or geographic location, if the wireless device is to operate in a first mode of communication operation in which received portions of said file are re-transmitted or a second mode of communication operation in which combinations of portions of said file are transmitted. The wireless device transmits packets communicating received file portions when it is determined that the wireless device is to operate in said first mode of operation and transmits packets communicating combinations of file portions, e.g., linear combinations of file portions, when it is determined that the wireless device is to operate in said second mode of operation. The contents of a file may be obtained from some packets which communicate distinct portions of the file and other packets which communicate combinations of distinct portions of the file.
